Show Prop on E-bay

The miniature version of Pearl’s Widowmaker is up for sale on e-bay. My personal feeling is that the seller has priced it a bit high (at last look bids were at $305 and the reserve had not yet been met) but for those who collect these things, there you are.

One other note: I would strongly advise anybody who wants to bid on this to demand to see the certificate of authenticity first, which the seller has not yet produced.

Yeah, considering the “buy it now” price is 1,250, I would be shocked if the reserve was under a thousand.

I’m actually glad I don’t have a job right now so that I can keep myself from spending that kind of money on a piece of the GREATEST SHOW EVER!!!!!!

I wonder if, many years from now, these things will be going for much, MUCH more, making the (roughly) $1,250 current price, seem incredibly cheap in comparison….

It never ceases to amaze me how much money people are willing to part with to obtain these (admittedly cool) props……(he says, just before heading over to Amazon to drop even MORE cash on yet another MST dvd collection…….and YES, Sampo, I will be sure to use the link!!!)……

Wow, great pictures! A most valuable reference to those of us who want to build the model ourselves. Huh, I just noticed that the van model is of a slightly different design from the life-size version they had on the show: the model has no fourth rear window, no skylight/canopy and no little windows/skylights just above the regular windows (you can clearly see “Wash Me” written in the dust on one of those little windows/skylights in the “Time Chasers” episode where Mike and Art floated on over for a pleasant face to face visit with Perl).

I noticed those differences too, Weirdonian. The VWs with “little windows/skylights just above the regular windows” are pretty rare, every time I see a VW bus I look for ’em but have never seen one out and about.

I wonder if Shout Factory will ever make S.O.L. or Widowmaker toys.

I think that’s the Franklin Mint issue of the VW type 2 transporter. I have one of those, but its not the Widowmaker. Oh well.

According to the text on the underside of the model in the auction, it’s a “Solido” brand die cast model, this one by the looks of it…

    I found one of these…

at a local flea market about a while ago. I hadn’t studied the model version much, but knew the full-size version well enough, so I bought it. I’d rather have a more screen accurate model reflecting the full-size version anyway.

Yes, please make more SOL toys, like the giveaways in the sets. MST fans are all big kids at heart who realize that maturity is for old people who complain about the weather. Never grow up so much you forget how to laugh at life, at yourself and, most importantly, crappy movies.

I went through my pictures from the original eBay auction and this looks authentic, but without a doubt I would still want to see the original certificate from Best Brains. I realize not too many props come on the market anymore, but his Buy It Now asking price is about four times the original price it sold for. Ouch! I’d love to add this to my collection, but I think it’s going to be priced out of my range pretty quickly. Good luck bidders.

I absolutely refuse to play eBay’s Reserve game. If sellers can’t be honest about what they expect to get for something, they can keep it.

This falls under the category of “I’d love to have that, but what would I do with it?”

…although in this case, the Buy It Now price gives you a clue.

Best Brains didn’t sell it during their eBay auction. It did eventually show up on eBay sold by some one else though.

Uh-oh, “lazlow”, looks like somebody needs to contact the Lego Company to inform them that they forgot to include the two side-mounted rocket ‘pods’ with their ‘WidowMaker’ VW kit….. ;-)

I just checked out the auction. The current bid is $543.00. The “reserve price” has still not been met. The seller claims to have the COA “around somewhere” and to find it “would require some digging.”

I’d take that with a grain of salt. If they had the original COA, they should have displayed it along with the other pics of the toy. I have a bad feeling this is just a reproduction and the seller is trying to pawn it off as a prop from the show.

Given the guy’s feedback score on Ebay I assume he’s not scamming. 15 years and 4,000+ positive rating with 942 of those positives as a seller convinces me anyway. He’s either selling a legitimate article or he’s one of the great con artists of our time and has yet to be caught.

  26. CK2 says:

I’m going to assume it’s legit, but seeing the new side by side pics he put up, I see a couple of things that don’t match.

    1. The area above the license plate in the tv screen capture appears to be trapezoidal in shape whereas on the model it’s rectangular, and the handle or whatever it is has a smaller lip in the tv picture.

    2. The seam around the back window is very noticeable on the model, but in the screen capture, it doesn’t appear to be noticeable at all.

Now these discrepancies could just be a trick of the light. If this guy has the COA lying around, I just couldn’t imagine selling something like this without taking the time to find it! I’ve got my COA for my prop in a frame right next to it. But, seeing as how it’s over $1,000 now with 3 days to go, others don’t seem to be too concerned about it.

I was looking to find a model of a VW BUS on E-bay, in 1/24th. 1/25th.scale. Not a lot out there and kind of pricey, so as #8 said I hope Shout Factory will do one down the road. I would love to see a S.O.L. as well then I could hang them by fishing line (Look you can see the string!)from the ceiling above my DVD’S (I know my wife will love to see that.) I would love to see a Brain in a dish in a Shout Factory set as well,it would make a nice center piece on our kitchen table.

Well the reserve is met. They sure are some pretty trusting people out there. If I’m going to put something like this up for auction I make darn sure I find that COA before I bother doing the listing.

HI fellow Misties – the Widowmaker model on eBay now has a photo of the original COA included, signed by Steffi and Gypsy (Beez and Jim). Reserve has been met, so this puppy will sell. Love this model, but have other obligations. I still have the red commercial sign, as well as both pairs of Bobo’s glasses. Thanks MST-buds! Drewski – eBay user “me”
