Long Weekend Discussion Threads

Happy Turkey Day everybody! Because we have a long weekend, I have two topics to get us through.

First–Are you having a Turkey Day marathon this weekend? What are you watching and why?

Me: “Santa Claus Conquers the Martians” is a Thanksgiving tradition in my house, but I think I will opt for Cinematic Titanic version. I don’t know whether it’s just that I’ve seen it less often, but right now I think it’s a better version. And of course I’ll be watching 403- CITY LIMITS for next week’s episode guide. I also plan to get to the latest RiffTrax, “Buffalo Rider.”

Second–What MSTed movie character would you like to invite for dinner?

My pick: the giant ducks from episode 523- VILLAGE OF THE GIANTS.

Have at it!

Watched the classic Turkey movie, The Giant Claw, and the Thanksgiving Version of Blood Beast. By next year, I hope to have found a copy of Blood Freak.

My Turkey Day lineup from yesterday.
Night of the Blood Beast for the “shrimp appetizer”
Sampson vs the Vampire Women because the vampire women’s skin looked like overdone turkey.
Giant Gila Monster because the fried gila monster at the end tastes like chicken/turkey
Incredible Melting Man since he looked like gravy by the end.
and last and least Bride of the Monster because what say’s TURKEY more than an Ed Wood movie.
Also if you ate too much or watched too many bad movies you could finish with Monster A-Go-Go since as we know “THERE WAS NO TURKEY”.

I remain baffled at Cinematic Titanic’s switch to live DVDs. The live audience is distracting at best. At worst, they actually ruin jokes by disrupting the timing and delivery. I wish CT would return to the studio format.

  4. I very much prefer the live CT DVDs. The audience laughter is infectious, and the studio DVDs seem flat in comparison. There’s nothing baffling about people having different preferences.

What I’d really prefer is if they’d release them more often, but I guess we can’t have everything.

We watched the Rifftrax live Christmas shorts special. If I had to pick someone to invite to Thanksgiving dinner I’d go with Ol’ St. Nick himself. It couldn’t hurt to bring him by for dinner with Christmas only a month away.

Some nights at work I get bored and my thoughts turn to doing the perfect MST3K marathon. I still have vivid memories of the Comedy Central turkey days, and the scrambling to get them all on tape (employing multiple DVDs and enlisting friends and family to tape parts for me). Very hard in the days when Comedy Central and VH1 shared a channel on my cable carrier.

Anyhue, how ’bout a non stop 24 hour mst marathon for thanksgiving:

    12noon- 212 Godzilla vs. Megalon

    1:30- 606 The Creeping Terror

    3:00- 303 Pod People

    4:30- 706 Laserblast

    6:00- 322 Master Ninja I

7:30- 812 The Incredibly Strange Creatures Who Stopped Living and Became Mixed-Up Zombies

    9:00- 421 Monster A Go-Go

10:30- 423 The Bride of the Monster

12mid- 424 “Manos” The Hands of Fate

    1:30- 609 The Skydivers

    3:00- 619 Red Zone Cuba

4:30- 621 The Beast of Yucca Flats

    6:00- 506 Eegah

    7:30- 512 Mitchell

    9:00- 513 The Brain That Wouldn’t Die

    10:30- 1001 Soultaker

Re: 51 I got a copy of BLOOD FREAK from Something Weird Video years ago. It would be perfect for CineTit or RiffTrax!

Like a lot here, I fished out Volume 16 and popped in Night of the Blood Beast for the Turkey Day version. Didn’t have time for a full marathon, so I made due with that. I was, however, happily surprised to see it included the bumps from the ’95 marathon (forgot about that). So next year, I’m planning on using those bumps and episode intros to recreate the entire ’95 Turkey Day Marathon. I have three DVD players hooked up to my TV (multiple electronics with them built in… just worked out that way) so I should be possible to watch the ’95 marathon bumps for each, stop it there, and switch directly to the next movie.

And for dinner, I’d invite the pervy sheriff from It Lives By Night just to see if he brings a feather boa. :dog:

Thanksgiving guest? The Creeping Terror, of course. He’s fun to cook for because he enjoys eating. Ortega can cater.

I would NOT invite Santa Claus or Pedro because all they eat is ice cream and pastry made from soft clouds, so they’d just sit around, stare at us eating, and pull faces.

We don’t do the marathons, as we try to watch each episode in order throughout the year. But this week was a good one: 903 THE PUMA MAN, 904 WEREWOLF, and 905 THE DEADLY BEES.

As for who I’d invite to Thanksgiving dinner, since we often have ham in addition to turkey, I’d invite poor Hugo from DEVIL DOLL–and of course, he’d furnish his own stuffing…

I’ve never been into the MST3k Turkey Day marathon thing, always too busy (I had to work this year!), too much going on, etc. Even when I was a teenager, when the original Turkey Day marathons were on, I would have to set up my VCR on a timer and tape the show (on an 8 hour tape) while we went to my aunts or grandmas. When we got back, I would swap tapes, hope to not miss too many eps (seemed like I always missed a few), and not really watch them until the next day and, really, over the course of the next couple weeks, leading into December.

So in conclusion, heavy MST watching for me usually happens in December, what with the two Christmas themed episodes and everything. As of late I’ve been watching the show in order, one episode a week, keeping up with the Episode Guide entries; so I did watch THE GIANT GILA MONSTER the other day and plan on watching CITY LIMITS here in the next couple.

As for who’d I’d invite over for Thanksgiving dinner,
I would invite a Native American, Johnny Longbow,
and hope that he brings some of his famous stew,
which has chicken, corn, green peppers, chili,
    . . onions. . .

Yo Truffleberry! I didn’t know MST-3k was on Second Life. You got those coordinates handy? BTW my handle is Dataphage Titanium.

Ummm…I had to get some rest after turkey time to work at Wally World that night so there was no marathon. But you can bet there will be several Christmas movies, including the Star Wars Christmas Special, Santa and The Ice Cream Bunny…but I’m sure that’s a future topic.

I would invite Max Keller to dinner because for some unfathomable reason hot chicks seem to follow him wherever he goes.
