  1. “#30: Wasn’t there a K Gordon Murray doc on the Santa Claus DVD?”

Whoops! Oh yeah. I don’t know how that slipped my little mind.

    #26 Great list Droppo.

Fire Maidens From Outer Space is one of my favorite of the Joel era, from beginning to end. Not only a great plot with the evil Timmy, but one where the Bots become unhinged from the walking, the dancing, the walking, the drinking, the walking, all to the strains of the Polovtsian Dance Number 2 by Borodin. Interestingly enough, the song was adapted for the musical “Kismet” in 1953 and called it…. “Gliding Dance of the Maidens”…. which I gives some kind of twisted connection to “Fire Maidens of Outer Space”.

Might be an idea for another thread…..favorite time when the Servo, Crow, Joel, Mike, Frank, Dr. Forester, Pearl, Brain Guy, Gypsy, and Professor Bobo completely lost it! Went absolutely bird nuts!

Awesome set. Russo-Finnish is always good, and I’ve always wanted to show my wife El Santo.

Still, I hope next set starts showing more love to the Sci Fi era.

Worth it just for the Fugitive Alien saga. Thankfully the other two titles are pretty good too.

And so, even without the KTMA episodes :/ , the Sandy Frank collection is complete. :D

Sword and the Dragon is a good episode. I kind of expected that one soon. :P

Samson vs the Vampire Woman…. Frank’s last episode. A depressing one, but glad to see on DVD at last. :)

Seasons 3 and 6 are now both more than half completed. Only eight more episodes to go for both of them.

Oh god, I’m so glad you guys couldn’t see and hear the embarassing squee I just did, complete with happy muppet-esque flailing.

We’re finally going to get the Fugutive Alien episodes! And Samson! Man, I will have to pick that one up ASAP once it comes out.

Glad I held off re-watching my terrible copies of the Fugitive Alien episodes. Samson is a favorite, easily in my Mike top 5. I’m hoping there’s a Luchadores featurette- or at least one about KGM’s distribution of them.

Statement about something no one cares about: with Manos and now Samson v Vamp Women on DVD, we are only missing Double 007 before all the episodes with Mike as Torgo are on DVD! I think?

re 64: Torgo also appeared in “Village of Giants”, “Danger! Death Ray” and “San Francisco International”. So a few more to go.

I think a lot of us are starting to believe they can get everything out on a set at some point. There could be a few untouchables when we get past the Lippert movies, & the PD movies ..but I know that Shout is going to do everything they can to get all the titles on sets.
I wouldnt count on Godzilla vs the Sea Monster or the Season 3 AIP Susan Hart titles, but Id say everything else has some sort of possibility down the road…we will see !
Amazing in the last year 12 Season 3 episodes made it to home video thanks to Shout ..and now the Lippert titles are starting to trickle out..such a great time to be a collector. The season with the most unreleased episodes now has more episodes out than the 4th and 5th Season..imagine that ! :)

Say, looks like I stumbled across a meeting of the “Riding With Death” and “San Francisco International” fan club! Those two episodes along with “Being From Another Planet” are my personal grails.

This set looks good. It’s the first time I’ve been excited about a set in a LONG time.

Awesome. One of my top 10 favorite episodes (Samson vs. the Vampire Women), another beloved Russo-Finnish tale, and I finally get to see the Fugitive Alien saga that everyone’s always posting about. Truly a great collection. My hat’s off to you, Shout! Factory. Keep up the amazing work.

Great upcoming set! Looking forward to them all, especially Samson! Both Fugitive Alien movies are going on my list of episodes to be watched back-to-back! Shout satisfies again! I’m just hoping there are chapter selections for this new set.

After 24 volumes, 12 Rhino and 12 Shout, I’d say that Shout is the definite winner. Releasing episodes that were once considered untouchable a few years back is a big factor in that win.

I’ll be looking forward to seeing Godzilla vs The Sea Monster, The Day the Earth Froze, The Painted Hills, Agent For H.A.R.M., Puma Man, Gorgo and many, many other episodes, untouchable or otherwise, in future sets.

How about an Amazing Colossal Man/War of the Colossal Beast set or a complete Shorts set? I’d buy those! Heck, I’ve bought ’em all, even 10.2! Even the Giant Gila Monster disc! And the Shout singles!:victory:

Keep the good times coming, Shout! 8-)

Stressfactor #28> I recall when Shout released its first batch of Sandy Frank titles (the Gamera set was first right?) there was an interview out there were the Shout employee stated they had zero dealings with Sandy Frank himself to get that done. So I’m assuming that means once his American rights lapse has no right to anything including his cut/dub.

  23. Can’t wait for these — FA series absolutely the best ever.

It was during “forklift” that my wife and I (admittedly having imbibed a few spirits previously) started laughing uncontrollably for the first time during an MST3K episode. I do believe that single episode made my wife a fanatic in the true sense of the word.

I do hope these get here before the end of summer, as we are currently starting Season three in our rotation (we can wait two or three months as there is lots of other stuff, including Rifftrax and CT, to catch up on — but after that we really need to resume our regular programming).

What makes them *untouchable* are the rights owners. Susan Hart hasnt released any of her library on DVD at all and Toho owns Godzilla, which makes the Sea Monster a dead issue right now.
Rhino did one amazing set with Godzilla vs. Megalon – so we have to give them credit for that :)

Y’know, if Shout could work a deal with Ms Hart – releasing her titles as ‘straight’ DVDs in addition to the MSTied versions, I’d buy ’em both.

  28. #71 – I second the Colossal duo in a set idea. And I have a bootleg single DVD of every short in order. I would practically KILL for an official set of that. I don’t see it being TOO hard for rights either, considering most are PD and some are General Hospital, which we have a couple of out already I think.

    Great news…

But aren’t there four Russo-Finnish films? So a quartet or quadrology would be more accurate.

One of your own polls on this site even references a quartet, not trilogy.

Fugitive Alien 1 and 2? YES! I’ve been waiting for those episodes to make it to dvd. I have only seen the first on an old recording, but it’s one of my favorites. Haven’t been this excited for an MST release since they finally put out the Magic Voyage of Sinbad.

    @80:

I think it’s because the ACEG refers to the “Russo-Finnish Troika” of the CC years, but then they did ‘Jack Frost’ on SciFi. Over the last 15 years, ‘Jack Frost’ also stood out as the one in most recent memory since it was the only one many more recent fans could see on TV, and the first one on DVD, leaving the other 3 bunched together in fans’ minds. Maybe.

Also, if we’re getting REALLY nitpicky, someone pointed out in an episode discussion that it should technically be the Russian Quartet, since ‘Day the Earth Froze’ is the only one with anything distinctly Finnish about it, but common elements, actors, and crew in the following 3 led the Brains to assume all 4 were Russo-Finnish.

Ah well, as long as we all know which eps are meant.

As for this set, Fugitive Alien was the first episode I ever saw (if not all the way through), so this set means even more to me that just the completion of the Sandy Frank saga. And now that I’ve seen ‘2010’ and the Lord of the Rings troik-ilogy, I’ll get all the jokes in Frank’s swan song!
(Wait, does ‘The Hobbit’ make that one a quad-tet?)

..previously commented: “After 24 volumes, 12 Rhino and 12 Shout, I’d say that Shout is the definite winner.”
see, the way I look at it is, Rhino, imo, gets a TON of credit for getting the MST ball rolling in the FIRST place!
Who’s to say that if Rhino didn’t get Mst up and running, Shout would have even cared a twit about our tiny show. It was only after the success made apparent by Rhino that Shout grabbed the reins, but if Rhino hadn’t started it all rolling, would Shout have even batted an eyelash?
So, Shout may be the ‘definate winner’ but that placement wouldn’t even be under consideration had Rhino not layed the foundation low these many years ago. Shout may be the definate winner but Rhino gave us the damn series on dvd in the first place…..something we do NOT know if Shout would have.

  35. EricJ says:

Shout IS Rhino: Where do you think those glorious Old Rhino keepers-of-the-faith went when Warner bought them out and drove it into the ground?
Shout was just picking up where they left off when they were still at Rhino. (And the fact that MK&B made an unholy mess of “Film Crew” helped push the issue of not expecting any new episodes any time soon. ;) )

That said, more Santos and more badly-dubbed Ptushko is always a good thing.
(Which also explains why Jack Frost is left out of the RFT, as it was directed by somebody else.)

It’s funny… I don’t even remember that episode where Frank left the show. His character died so many times in the lead-up, the final death didn’t stick with me. Really looking forward to this one!

Just let me know when the Amazon pre-orders come available, guys! (… as if Satellite News has ever let me down on that before :-) )

“Let me be Frank about Frank” I used to think was the one where Frank left us. I was always “oh crap, Frank’s gone!” :*( But he hung on a while after that. :*D I believe that song was actually for Zappa, which was an awesome thing for them to do on the show.
