I was in that autograph line–and I have to say Joel, Trace, Frank, Josh and Mary Jo were every bit as gracious as I thought they’d be. It was a treat to meet them. :)

Very cool guys. I wish I could have been there. Hopefully I’ll get to see the pilot in Minneapolis (or sooner if someone posts it).

What movie did they riff on at Archon?

    mst3ktemple,

They didn’t riff any movies. The Q&A/panel session took up the entire alloted time. Frank made a quick joke that they were going to riff the “Green Slime” pilot when it started playing, but they didn’t actually do it.

Mike wasn’t there because, I’m pretty sure, the greatly-increased public appearances are mostly to help Cinematic Titanic get promoted. Thus, it just wouldn’t make sense for Mike to be there, he has his own project now.

Joel showed a bit of the first MST3K episode aired on KTMA (don’t remember if this was the same as the pilot) at DragonCon. I found that I agreed with him: it’s interesting, perhaps, to see where the show got its start, but for entertainment value it’s pretty light. It really is just a guy (one guy in this episode) watching a movie, and occasionally making a comment about it. Those comments are few and far between, and not a few of them are just informational. The entire point of the show was different at first, the interactive-seeming mocking was something they grew into as the show evolved.

b-Rad: This was a Cinematic Titanic event, even though they also discussed MST3K. Mike is not part of Cinematic Titanic.

Those were my bots getting autographed there… any way I can get copies of the non-web dithered original pictures?

I was there as well (holding Tarantulas Servo in all those pics)
I saw Joel giving an interview to someone Saturday morning and was wondering if anyone knows what that was for and where it’s viewable. It was someone with at least a nice pro-sumer camera but I didnt hang around to quiz them and I certainly did not want to interrupt them when they were doing it. I also figure that the entire pilot will be on the internets sometime soonish as I know it was recorded.

  16. It was great seeing you, Brian/Erhardt. This is Fringe. I was at Archon as well. FYI, the CT gang showed up for the end of the masquerade as well, and hung out talking to a few of us then too. Very cool!

HOLY SMOKES! The whole “Green Slime” pilot?! If they’ve managed to secure the rights to play it at an event (and that does require some kind of license I believe), maybe that portends an eventual DVD release?

  18. Tarantulas says:

To be fair, it’s not what you think it is…. there is a release forthcoming.

Most of the ‘pilot’ consists of the host segments and very small theater segs with really no riffing going on (save the nunber 2 one.) The amount of Green Slime shown is small enough that Joel seemed to figure that it is fair use and wouldn’t pose a problem for being shown etc. He even went as far as to say that he thinks (speculating, not known) that the pilot might end up showing up in a retail form one day, coming from Mallon as he has (at least half) control of that content.
