is the rifftrax site running VERY slow for anyone else?

  11. Well, dual layer DVD-Rs are more expensive than I’d hoped. It’s not really worth it to me, since I don’t know when I’ll use another one. But I already bought the VOD. Damn. I hate watching movies on my computer!

@11 You can also use the mpg-2 to burn a single layer version of the show.

  16. FWIW, I found a 15-pack of DL DVD-Rs (memorex) for 19.97 at Wal Mart. Looks good! Obviously, you should make sure your computer or whatever burns dual-layer DVDs.

    Cool, thanks.

Finally! Y’know when this was originally in theaters, I paid for 8 of my friends to go see it, then just as the movie portion started, there was a gas leak scare and everyone had to leave the theater for the night. This makes me so happy!

Wow, I didn’t realize the iso was 7 GB! No wonder it took so long to download! I’m going to have to find some dual layer discs as well. Be right there.

I did not get to see it in the theater, but I heard so many great things about it. I have ordered my copy – could have done the VOD but I like the cover on this one.

I wonder if that gas leak was caused by the Titans trying to sabotage the show.

I also purchased the DVD last night…can’t wait for it to get here.

  29. An interesting (to me, at least) observation about this film: Kerwin Matthews (Jack) and Torin Thatcher (Pendragon) squared of a few years earlier In The Seventh Voyage of Sinbad, where Matthews played Sinbad and Thatcher played another wizard Sokurah the Magician. Sinbad also had the same director, Nathan Juran. Fans of that movie might note that the horned giant at the beginning of Jack the Giant Killer (did that thing have a name?) is a shameless cheap-jack imitation of Ray Harryhausen’s famous stop-motion cyclops from Sinbad. Obviously, Jack was nothing but a hokey cash-in on Sinbad’s success.

  30. losingmydignity says:

@29 yeah, but did Sinbad have a princess turn into such a cool (okay, cheesy too) evil queen. I think not!

  31. @30

Nope, not in my recollection. But it didn’t have a stupid bottled leprechaun in it, either. :)

It occurs to me that the skeleton warriors in Jason and the Argonauts are kind of like the BE RIGHT THERE warriors in JtGK, in that they sprung up from the bones/stones cast by a wizard. And was Ray Harryhausen’s Kraken in Clash of the Titans inspired by the one in JtGK? lolz These movies are always a buffet of world mythologies. Like that time Sinbad fought El Chupacabra in Sinbad Goes to Rio.

#29 – Indeed this movie was a quick cash-in. If I remember correctly, the producer of Jack was originally offered the project that became Sinbad; he passed on it on the grounds that there was no money to be made in fantasy (how wrong he was). Anyway, after Sinbad made mad money, the fuming producer decided to rush a me-too film into theaters to capitalize on the bucks, and in fact there was a lawsuit over this movie’s way-too-similar-to-be-coincidental similarities to Sinbad.

    So there you go.

Ordered it on Thursday, got it on Friday amd watched it on Saturday.
Loved the Screen Cards. They are almost as funny as the movie and riffs themselves.

Where did they get the rights to the menue music? That must have either cost them a penney or two,
or they got it with a subscription service.

    Good job all around.
