Weekend Discussion Thread: Your Favorite Death Scenes in MSTed Movies

Alert reader Deejay relates:

I recently rewatched Deathstalker and the Warriors From Hell. I love scene where the hero is watching the girl being cremated and they riff “He was overwhelmed by feelings of ambiguity.” How many times have these movies presented us with scenes that are supposed to be heart-wrenching and tragic and all we can do is shrug? I think it’s worth discussing.

So let’s discuss our favorite expirations. One of my faves is that guy in “Devil Fish” whose long, drawn-out passing caused Crow to declare: “Jeez, Francisco Franco died quicker!”

What’s your favorite?

My favorite death scene is when JC shoots rommel in the back. And that blond girl in the blood waters of dr z where she just walks into the ocean.

I like when Linda shoots Jeter in Wild Rebels he gets all floppy and bendy when he falls. And that air head dying in Pod People was cool but I wish she could have suffered more.

~any death scene in Horror of Party Beach
~the husband being killed by a skull in Screaming Skull
~the “victims” of the Creeping Terror who have to basically committ suicide
~Coleman Francis in Red Zone Cuba because “to love a character for so long and see him come to such an end”
~also from Red Zone Cuba the old depressing man being thrown down the well for no real reason

The death of the scientist in “Agent for HARM”. The combination spaz chop and pocket wound was too much for him.

Fats getting shot in the head to wacky clown music and then Jeter getting shot in the back by his ex-girl and falling down between the spiral stairs like a floppy ragdoll. All this Wild Rebels.

The death of the piece of wood in Time of the Apes as it falls into the river. “It died so we could live.”

Torgo getting his hand taken off as it goes aflame and the masters holding it laughing like a maniac. Presumably, Torgo dies after he runs off.

The guy getting crushed by a rock in Rocketship X-M. “They got rocks like that in Texas?”

Sadly, the death of Megaweapon in Warrior of the Lost World. R.I.P Megaweapon.

The monster that got cut up into slices in one of those Gamera movies. I think it was Gamera versus Guiron.

I dont know if it counts as a death, but it is very very rewarding when Verelli from Devil Doll gets turned into a dummy. He was one of those characters you just couldnt like, like the Master from Manos, or anyone from Ring of Terror.

I always like the death of the girl that Dirk drowns in The Sinister Urge. The way she just “decided she was dead” cracks me up.

Prehistoric Women – at least after Crewman Expendable trips while walking across a 10-foot log into the pool of acid, they lament for a while. If only they would have walked around it. Then Angel gets killed by a spider plush toy, and no one cares.

I was a little mad that Deathstalker didn’t do anything when Potato-eater girl was killed. I thought she was the love interest, and instead she fights bravely for him and then dies, I guess so she’s out of the way for Deathstalker and the new princess to be an item.

Yipe Striper-JC Superstar references aren’t that common, are they? Do you also delight (as I do, seriously) when they have someone (like the wandering wife in Manos, for one) sing “I…don’t know how to love him…”?

I always liked Jack Palance’s death scene in Outlaw when Her Leggy-ness stabs him in the middle of his toast. He just looks kinda startled and keels over! “Hooo! Wotta kick!!”

lancecorbain- no they aren’t that common, i don’t think. and yes…I do. correct me if i’m wrong… but didn’t they use that line of the song somewhere in Werewolf? i will watch it tomorrow and get back with the info…

i think it was natalie and the Psycopath or maybe it was when Na-Na told yuri to go take a walk (over to kirk douglas’ house)…? man i may have to watch it tonight!

Super Paul, the titular Moon Beast, who does the frug as he dies in Tack of the Moon Beast. That or Yuri, who continues sucking in his gut after he’s dead in Werewolf…..

lancecorbain: yeah… as Yuri walks out of the lab and right before Na-Na walks in about 2/3rds of the way through the episode…. I don’t know how to love him…. but with Natalie’s accent. classic!

It’s not in a movie, but how about Mike Nelson’s (off-screen) death by groupie in Timechasers? “I was really proud of him. An excellent death.”

I’ll put in a vote for Robert Z’dar’s death in Future War, although any death from that movie (man, robot, or dinosaur) qualifies.

Yipe Striper-Awesome, I remember that too. This would be an excellent (although probably short) Ward(what number?) list, as it’s obviously a favorite reference of one of the writers. (Mike? Kevin?) For myself, I grew up with the original album in our family’s record collection but didn’t see the movie until 14 or so, plenty of time to lose it during that “Manos” moment. I want to say they did “What’s The Buzz?” once too, but…..

Oh, and wanted to second The Dark Spectre Of Food’s trip down the frog mine-death and violence in real life is upsetting, but when you’re watching a movie, especially one you can’t take seriously(with or without the riffers), it CAN be incredibly funny. Love this show!

Too many replies, too lazy to check them all now. So a few faves, may contain repeats.

The guys in the helicopter trying to kill Trash, but he blows up the copter with his pistol. Very sensitive copter.
Regular guy getting hung by Lovejoy at the beginning of Code Name Diamond Head
Pretty much everyone’s death in Laserblast, cheered the most for Billy Duncan’s, followed by Eddie Deezen’s. Felt bad about the “far out” hippie’s death though.

Too early in the morning to think, will try later maybe.

JK’s plane-flattening death in ‘Time Chasers’ – “Oh! Well, uh, thank you movie!”

The Bat and Bruno’s deaths in ‘The Robot Vs the Aztec Mummy.’ I hated how overly-confident the Bat was that he needed a radiated robot to defeat an undead mummy. For crying out loud, as long as you don’t remove the gold bracelet and breast plate, the thing won’t come alive. So why not when it’s not moving- chop it to pieces!? Though maybe the idiotic Bat just needed an excuse to grave-rob and torture living animals.
