I’ve spent $200 on tickets for the Chicago show; I’m bringing about five people and we’re going to the pre-show that starts at 4. We’re really looking forward to it; we’ll actually get to watch an episode of MST3k with Joel (maybe. The ad isn’t clear on whether he’ll be there for the screening).

Why all these and no additional CT shows?

I would think people in CT may have other things lined up. They did do a lot of shows last year and maybe want to prepare for next years tour and write riffs for next movies they’ll be doing on tour. RiffTrax team only does a few live shows a year, but they do a ton of stuff on line and so we have to sit back and see what all these talented folks plan for our entertainment next year. Any idea how many of these shows Joel is planning to do?

I got tickets to the Dallas show. I wish I was back home in Chicago as Dallas is quite a drive. I see he booked Austin, which is closer to me, but I’m going with a friend who lives in Dallas. Ah, well. Looking forward.

I hope he comes back to Minneapolis on a day I’m not out of town.

As far as CT goes, it seems like Frank has other stuff going on, and I’d guess Joel wanted to do something different for a while which makes sense.

The Colonial theater show was awesome. Glad we could see the second half of his presentation, and I was really glad to finally get to see the seven minute “sell tape” that Best Brains showed the Comedy Channel guys to get them interested in picking up the show.

Saw the October show, didn’t get to go to the Colonial show on Saturday – any memorable riffs/moments you can share with us, Matt D? We’ve been lucky in PA to get TWO shows, so I doubt we’ll be treated to a third when Joel Hodgson’s playing all around the country!

Well, the second half of this presentation concerned more of the MST3K and the making of the bots, so a lot of it was going over stuff that most of us MSTies would know. That is why I enjoyed the October show a bit more; it was truly new to see Joel’s very early influences.
The best moment for me was during a Q and A session, when one guy asked this question of Joel:
“Joel or Mike?” That got a big laugh. Joel talked of Mike in very flattering terms, even if he was quick to remind us that the MST3K thing was his idea, so it’s not like he would slam the later seasons of MST.

Speaking of the P’Ville show during the pre-holiday weekend, I did not get called on to ask a question but afterwards got to ask Joel about the slide that he showed relating to the “robots” that he created and then sold through a store. I wanted to know if anyone has ever brought one to him to sign since this was almost five years prior to KTMA. Joel replied that he made “hundards of them and no one has ever brought one back to him” which means to EBAY we must go!

It was a nice time and a good theatre space with the majority of the crowd staying afterward for “Santa Claus VS. the Martians” which Joel very kindly explained why he favors this episode a bit.
