Update: Joel Interviews

Update: My pal Tom Graham of Electric City/Diamond City in Scranton/Wilkes-Barre has a very nice interview with Joel, and also was nice enough to mention me in a companion piece that takes a look at four fan-favorite episodes.

Patrice Wilding of The Times-Tribune in Scranton also has an interview with Joel.

Rich Howells of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Weekender has a nice long interview with Joel, and also mentions my incredibly minor role in getting him booked in my home town.

For the record, all I did was persistently leave messages on the voicemail of the person in charge of programming at the venue until she finally called me back. Turned out she was a fan, so I didn’t have to really sell it. But if you want Joel (or Cinematic Titanic) to come to a venue near you, that’s the secret. Just be persistent until you make contact, then do your best to sell it (point the person to the websites, etc.). There’s contact info on Joel’s site and the Cinematic Titanic site. Get ’em together. It might work out.

What if you want the Rifftrax guys to come to your town? Bill does plenty of appearances in Minneapolis, but he never seems to bring Mike or Kevin along. It just seems odd that they’ve never had a Rifftrax Live in Minnesota, especially after all the Cinematic Titanic events that have been held here.(I don’t expect a legitimate answer. I’m just whining.)

  3. Sampo, since you’re good at suggesting things into happening, is there any chance your Q&A session could become a DVD extra in the future? It would be great to see one with some intelligent, informed questions. I’m sure we all know what most of the questioners are usually like, and I’ll just leave it at that.

So is there no MST episode being shown at Joel’s Seattle show? According to the SIFF site, it’s Joel’s one man show with 1-2 shorts from the riffing class the night before.

I’m planning to go to the Scranton show, but it looks like Winter Storm Whatever may have an objection. I’ll call the box office tomorrow to see if it’s still on.

I wondered why Joel came to Scranton, and I was delighted to get a chance to meet him so close to home (I live in Syracuse, originally from Binghamton) It was fantastic to meet him and you last night! I’m that “Night of the Blood Beast” girl. Being in the company of MSTies was great, I felt so at home with other fans. Thank you for your work on the website and bringing Joel to our area!

I know this is a little late but so glad that Joel came to Scranton. My family and I had a great time and glad that we got the VIP tickets. :) Hoping that more MST3K events come to my area!
