TF&J will be great, but…whatever happened to “We’d never do Plan 9, it’s too corny and pop-overexposed”?

  3. Cheapskate Crow says:

Weird that this is going on the same night as Joel’s one man show just up the road in Seattle. I would think they’re cannibalizing their audience a little bit here.

Rifftrax already riffed PLAN 9. Can’t these guys riff something different? Perhaps GLEN OR GLENDA?

Sounds great, but I have a feeling that Trace,Frank and Josh didn’t pick PLAN 9 to riff.Call it a hunch.Whoever does, should pick JAILBAIT or GLEN OR GLENDA to do..

  8. EricJ says:

Yeah, Plan 9 does seem to be the favorite of “Those MST3K guys should do it!” who’ve only casually watched it. Guess we should be thankful it’s not Attack of the Killer Tomatoes. ;)

  9. JeremyR says:

Plan 9 is a fun movie even if it’s not riffed. Glen or Glenda and most the others mentioned really aren’t.

Is this a charity event? I’d hazard a guess that’s why the fellas are taking their hand at it.
The foundation probably chose the film, for whatever reason they have.

Curse you, article title! Be more specific with your Portlands!

Money, travel and time considerations are conspiring to keep me from going.

As for “Plan 9”, I wouldn’t mind seeing their take on it. I do agree that “Glen or Glenda” would be a good choice, too.

It’s a charity event. The organization chose a movie with marquee value. Plan 9 is the world’s most famous bad movie.

Since Dana Gould will be there, Plan 9 is likely his choice as he was close friends with Maila Nurmi (Vampira). I saw him, Trace and Frank riff it in Seattle – looked like they did it unscripted, too – and it was awesome! I assume he’ll be riffing it with them this time as well.

I would guess plan 9 cause its public domain, and well known.

If this charity was ambitious- they’d make a recorded version and sell it to people like us- bwa hahahah- i’d pay 20$ for that dvd.

I would guess Plan 9 because of it’s rich, minty after-taste.
(Everyone else got a guess! :struggle: )

just got my tickets, thank you, MST3Kinfo! I live in portland(gresham) and would have had no idea this was going on without the post.

and PTomreeves, one night in portland would mean you would want to move here permanently. the last great bastion of weirdness in USA. although that is slowly going away unfortunately.

my goal now is to shake frank’s hand.

Thank you for posting the notice! Just got my tickets for the show.

My goal is is to not shake Frank’s hand while I’m in a drunken stooper. (So embarrassed that I did that…)

The interview is a bit lazy on the fact checking. It perpetuates the myth that MST started out on cable public access.

  27. From the interview: Q: Will the classic Mystery Science Theater format ever be resurrected or have we seen the last of Dr. Forrester, TV’s Frank, and the ‘bots?

A: Shout! Factory (a music/DVD/home video entertainment company) has explored the idea of doing new episodes direct to DVD, but so far nothing has come of it and I don’t know if that’s ever going to happen.

hmmmmm….first I’ve heard of this……that is very interesting. Very interesting, indeed….

(Got my tickets for the show, looking forward to it! Woo!)

Wouldn’t Pearl, Brain Guy, and Professor Bobo be better
at a revival, given that Frank is a Soultaker and Dr.
Forrester has tragically passed away (for details see his mum)?

  29. JeremyR says:

No Pearl. Just retcon her out of existence. Have Frank come out of a shower and it all being a dream or something.

The dream of the 90s is alive in Portland!

Dana Gould is something of a Plan 9 expert, sure it was his call.

for more info about the issue and found most people will go along with your views on this site.
