And… purchased. I’m pretty sure RT always releases these during the middle of week to remind us that we work to afford their riffs and nothing more. At least I’ll have a smile on my face while at my desk tomorrow…

I’m thinking I should just have my paycheck direct deposited into Rifftrax’s account, and cut out the middleman.

    Bought.

Hey Rifftrax, as long we are talking Shatner, how about riffing ‘Horror at 37,000 feet’ or ‘Pray for the Wildcats’? And as long as I’m asking, I might as well ask you for the seven millionth time, what about DeForest Kelly and ‘Night of the Lepus’?

And thanks for this one by the way.

YES! I’d been hoping for this one!

*squeals with glee* (The good kind of glee, not that kind on Fox.)

Another Shatfest that would make for a fine Riff is White Comanche (AKA Rio Hondo). Shatner plays twin brothers: one a gringo, the other an injun. (!) Joseph Cotten’s in it too, plus I think it’s public domain.

Two other ShatMan movies rife for riffing are “Impulse” (Shatner as a homicidal gigalo) and the “Alexander” pilot that co-starred Adam West.

used to watch this movie all the time as a little kid. This is like the 5th or 6th movie from my childhood that rifftrax has done over the last 2 years, it’s like Mikes raiding my VHS collection.

As an arachnophobe, this is the first RiffTrax after 7 years that I’ll have to skip. :(

Oh well, maybe I can still just listen to it.

Funny, I was just thinking of this the other day. This was that one tape in the horribly disorganized video store near my campus that I noticed every time I was there, but always passed up to rent stranger fare. And then it was too late.

And now, it was officially worth the wait! Thanks RT!

I started this one last night and laughed throughout. Looks like another great one.

Rifftrax has really been on fire lately. Breaking Dawn 2, Viva Knievel!, The Apple….all classics.

Wow, if I had caught this one back when it came out (1977), I suspect I would have found it pretty scary. It still creeps me out to see Shatner and his co-stars handling and squashing what often appear to be real tarantulas. Interesting as well to see Shatner in that period after doing the original Star Trek series, but before the first movie, back before he became a self caricature.

@6 You read my mind! Horror at 37,000 Feet is the perfect storm of cheesy 70’s tv movies. I long wished MST could have done it and Lepus.

Can’t think of a cinematic skeleton in Nimoy’s closet outside Zombies of the Stratosphere at the moment. Several other original Trek cast members have cheesy movies on their resume though.

Leonard Nimoy still has to live down “The Ballad of Bilbo Baggins” as far as I’m concerned . . . and that’s plenty to pile on him.

“Cool story, sis” time: We lived near where this movie was filmed, and not only did we get to watch some of the filming, but my brother is in one of the crowd scenes (where people are crowding in on the police car). Hell, I’m almost tempted to buy this just to see if I can spot him… (-:

Hey, MST3Kinfo guys, where is the link to the video that I sent you the other day?

  21. Statskeeper says:

    @17
Early on Nimoy was in “Queen For A Day”, a fictionalize version of the 1950s radio and TV show where people lay bare their sob stories in hopes of winning prizes. He plays the pal of one of the contestants.

If we’re in ShatnerTown there’s one gem that nobody has mentioned yet: The Devi’s Rain. It must be done.

Yeah? Where is Frank’s link? I want to see it- two great things in one week can’t be beat!

The spiders will keep me away from this one… The sample was about all I could do…

I wonder if they would do a Bruce Campbell movie. Anyway, Kingdom of the Spider is Shat-tastic!

Wait so they kill LIVE spiders in this? Not that I love spiders or anything, but um…what?

I would have thought by the late 70s movies had already gotten hip to the whole “no animals were harmed in the making of this film” thing…

  27. JeremyR says:

There’s an interview with Shatner on youtube about this movie (apparently from a recent DVD re-release*). Sort of interesting – yes, they are live tarantulas, and while apparently some were hurt accidentally, they tried not to hurt them. The ones you see getting squished I think are fake.

Also that apparently there were plans for a sequel, but never happened.

    * Why is they don’t just release audio tracks for those of us that have the DVDS? Blah blah , supposedly, because they don’t know which DVD release we have. But they released a riff for Star Wars Holliday Special, which required a specific bootleg copy of the show.

Definitely would like to see Terror at 30,000 Feet.

But I’d really love to see them do the Bert I. Gordon movie, Empire of the Ants. No Shatner, but has Joan Collins, who is sort of like a female version.

Pray for the Wildcats would be the ultimate Rifftrax – Andy Griffith, William Shatner, Robert Reed, Marjoe Gortner, and a little Angie Dickinson, too. Andy’s Hippie Freakout has to be seen to be believed.

The Horror at 37,000 Feet would be great, too, but tell me, anyone seen the Shatner movie Impulse? It’s some major, major cheese, and would be GREAT for Rifftrax:

A paranoid, leisure-suit-wearing conman/gigolo named Matt Stone(Shatner) seduces lonely women, bilks them of their savings via an investment scam, then kills them. When he begins seeing an attractive widow, her daughter Tina becomes suspicious of his motives.

I suggested “Impulse” – and yes, I have a copy of it. On VHS. Tina (the kid) is also in “Santa and the Ice Cream Bunny”.

  30. I suggest the all-star Italian crap-fest “Tentacles”. Or any William Girdler film.

I almost hyperventilated when I saw this has been done. Favorite non-Trek Shatner movie, and second favorite deadly spider movie after Arachnophobia.

@28 You forgot to mention he sucks his thumb when flashing back to his abusive childhood. Never saw it, but the Agony Booth recap makes me want a Rifftrax.

I’m guessing the VOD are selling better that the MP3 mainstream movie riffs these days. They’ve been pumping the VODs out ever few weeks (not that I’m complaining). :)

  33. SOL Daria says:

@32 Yeah, it’s funny, I mostly prefer the VODs and not just for nostalgia reasons*, but I’ve also liked every MP3 I’ve heard (Spiderman 2 & 300 being the best IMO, though Avengers might be gaining since I’ve listened twice) so I hope they do some new ones soon.

*That plays a factor, though – the site reccomended Voodoo Man when I was buying Kingdom, and the preview made me decide to get it and a few shorts so it’ll be like Mike-Kevin-Bill doing a Season 1 episode.
