Sorry, RiffTrax, but I don’t do serials. Even if they are Batman.

@1: What’s wrong with serials? No better way to start your day… they’re grrrreat!

It helps that this is can’t miss material. Ultra-low budget, goofy Batman costume (especially the really bad cowl), stilted dialog and the most obvious bad guy in the world. Still, I wonder if they are going to do the entire serial or just get bored with it like they did in with Commander Cody in Season 1 of MST3K?

  4. No way I was going to pass on a Batman short. Not disappointed.

Rifftrax should start putting their older shorts collections on Netflix. They’re practically giving the CD’s away on Amazon, anyway, it would be a good way to get more exposure for RT.

I have the serial on DVD. It’s not the worst serial that I’ve seen. In my opinion, the serial’s biggest crime is not having a Batmobile. Would it have been terribly expensive to add that “bat face” to the hood and a couple of “wings” to the back of the car?

On Facebook they said if this does well they will do more episodes. Haven’t seen it yet but reaction on the rifftrax forum is very positive.

  12. All of these Batman and Robin shorts are like 4 hours running time. They should riff two hours worth as a VOD rather than one short after another.

@Castle Monster: We can’t just “put them on Netflix.” We’ve requested they put our content on there and they continue to resist, even though they’ve had our DVDs on there before. It’s a shame but it’s their rules.

I don’t think there will be any more Batman releases. They die in an airplane at the end of episode 1. Spoiler alert.

Congratulations must be made – Rifftrax just made this serial bearable. I wouldn’t mind seeing more episodes riffed, but this guy has got to be the dumbest Batman ever so it’s going to get real repetitive (which, of course, is what ended the Commando Cody episodes during Year One when “the film broke”).

Until the Nolan films, Batman is the superhero that got the worst luck on the screen: two lousy serials, Adam West, Joel Schumaker, and nipples on the batsuit.

But then, in the 60s, Batman got Ace The Wonder Dog. Sometimes, you just can’t catch a break.

    TO: Kali (#16)

Well, “Mask of the Phantasm”, the big-screen spin-off from “Batman: The Animated Series” showed up before Nolan. And I still think the Adam West movie was fun.

RE: #17. Okay, “Mask of the Phantasm” was good and the Adam West movie was great fun, even if Julie Newmar couldn’t appear as Catwoman.

Still outweighed by the bad films that came out before (and after). Like Adam West said in the movie, “Sometimes, you just can’t get rid of a bomb!!”

Jane Adams played Vicky Vale. She also played The Creeper’s blind “girlfriend” in “The Brute Man.” Six Degrees of MST3K category!

watched this with my friend last night, Great schlock and with high video quality- looking forward to next installment- looking forward to all 15 chapters. This serial is a bit less dry/campy than the 1943 one.

    This is hilarious.

We did miss a “The Wizard’s not in!!” riff, but there’s still fourteen chapters to go…

MikeK says @ 5:”the serial’s biggest crime is not having a Batmobile.’

    They HAVE a “Batmobile.”
Those of us into comic books, er I mean “graphic novels,” recall that in the original Batman DC comics, the Batmobile was just like you saw it in the serial. It was only later that it got more tricked out. Just like Superman, whose most famous accessories were developed for the Radio Series NOT the comic book, er Graphic Novel. ( I don’ play with dolls. They are “collectibles.”

Fun, but I wish they had done at least the first two episodes. Definitely worth the price however. Keep them coming!!!

@15 Given how this is a serial, it’s more than likely that part two will start with them escaping from the cockadoodie plane.
