All these 1950’s shorts have a dark, authoritarian vibe to them, even the cartoons.

Why were we so frightened of The Bomb? It sounds about as powerful as Susie blowing out her birthday candles.
“The Plan 9 of educational shorts”, indeed….Yes, ladies and gentlemen, THE most smugly over-beaten straw-man gag of the entire 50’s-obsessed nuclear-fear 80’s can be yours! ;)
(For those who didn’t grow up during the Reagan era, and couldn’t practically recite it from memory from all the people showing a kitschy 50’s PD short to be clever…)

I believe Weird Al Yankovic uses footage of this in his video for Christmas at Ground Zero. Both the song and video are favorites of mine. It’s just not Christmas without them.
There is of course the Arnold method of outrunning a nuclear blast. But that’s to be used only if “Get to the chopper!” fails.
