“Darkstar” Update

Our pal the ever-vigilant blogger Skendenberg has been keeping track of the “Darkstar” project, and directs us to a news update here that says the project is “now content complete and working on testing and QA.” They now project a release in time for Christmas 2009.

The “Darkstar” mastermind, J. Allen Williams, recently contacted us and promises to provide us with more information. Stay tuned!

 Wow, wasn’t expecting to see Dark Star in the same sentence as the word “update.” I’m game. Xmas ’09 I’ll be so ready for Beez ‘n Frank tinged space opera schtick scored by Geddy Lee.

So I’m assuming this will be Rifftraxed sometime in first quarter ’10, right?

    It’s a PC game.

Yikes! This one was up there with Duke Nukem forever. I wonder who will win?

ummm I must be out of the loop….exactly how is this related to MST3K?

RiffTrax better keep their mitts off it, I’m calling dibs! Yeah it’s a game, but you can totally riff on a game. The Spoony One has taught me this.

I really am excited about this though, it looks like fun. Btw, for those who haven’t seen them already, here are some picture of Trace and Joel in action: http://www.darkstar.gs/imports_news/news_20070704/ Also, Frank plays a robot, and this is his room, full of MST3k thingies: http://www.darkstar.gs/imports_news/news_20071120/trailer1.htm

There is a huge difference between the two: J. Allen Williams is financing this himself and creating virtually everything for it himself (save the actors and the programming to tie the story together).

My money is definitely on Jeff to finish way before any DNF game.

yeah, yeah, I’ll believe it when I see it.

As for those who mention Rifftrax, it’s a PC game, and even if it were possible to make a rifftrax for this, why would mike, kevin and/or bill bite the hand that fed it?

    Robyn says:

Yes, it’s PC game. With cutscenes. Cinematic cutscenes. Like scenes you might see in a movie. And come on, have you seen the sample scenes on the site? Not to slam the creators, I know a lot of work has gone into the game and I’m looking forward to it, but it’s pretty cheesy stuff, and if the rest of the game is like that, there’ll be plenty to riff on. There’s also the fact that we’ll be seeing Joel trying to ACT, like, in a serious environment, a concept that terrifies me on many levels. (I love you Joel, really.)

But yeah, RiffTrax probably wouldn’t, for various reasons. I was only joking around, and I’m pretty sure Mike “ex-genius” Kelley was too.

…Okay, actually, I was half-serious about riffing it myself. Be on the lookout for my Darkstar iRiff, maybe possibly coming out sometime in 2012! (I work slowly.)

I remember seeing screenshots from this in 2002 and thinking it looked dated. I mean, damn! This thing looks cutting edge for 1998. Just…no.

    oddstocks says:

I don’t know…I think the dated look will just add to the fun. I’m looking forward to it.

If it’s playable and not too expensive I’ll take one. Kind of Myst in space…looks to me. That’ll work.

*goes back to Far Cry II*

It will be interesting to have a project in which one’s adult children will be able to appear opposite the same-aged parents ;-)

Starship Titanic was one of my favorite PC games ever, despite its bugginess. I can’t wait to find out whether I would still love Starship Titanic if it had been promised to me in 1998 but didn’t come out til this year!
