BEL AIR, Calif.–Actor/director Leonard Nimoy, who won a worshipful global following as Mr. Spock, the resolutely logical human-alien first officer of the Starship Enterprise in the television and movie juggernaut “Star Trek,” died Feb. 27 at his home here. He was 83.
MSTies have heard any number of references to and impressions of him during MST3K’s run. One memorable moment came in episode 503- SWAMP DIAMONDS when Crow and Tom Servo became obsessed with the “This Side of Paradise” episode of “Star Trek,” with Crow as Spock.

My favorite performance of his was on Columbo as a murderous Doctor. It was like he was the goatee bearded Spock only without the goatee. Columbo kicked his ass like he always did, no matter who they were. You mess with Columbo, buddy, and you’re going down!

My in-laws gave me the original Star Trek on DVD two Christmases ago. Since then I’ve been on a massive Star Trek binge. I’ve watched all of the original series, Next Generation, Deep Space 9, and all the movies. Voyager is next. Thank you Gene Roddenberry, Leonard Nimoy, and everyone else who made Star Trek happen.

I bought In Search Of the Complete series with Christmas money I was given by mom not long ago and I’m already on Season 2. I highly recommend it to fans of Nimoy, and general nostalgia buffs. It’s very cheap. Often the show is genuinely fascinating, other times it’s can be unintentionally funny since it’s aged badly with facts only. But Nimoy is a blast. Really… get it!

The Columbo is known among Columbo fans (myself included) as the only episode where Columbo lost his temper. The Doctor he played was so cool and so devious that Columbo finally got frustrated and showed anger when confronting him with what he knew. Maybe the best Columbo ever.

As an actor; Leonard Nimoy was fortunate to have lucked into an acting job that trancended it`s medium and evolved into an iconic fictional character, known and loved by millions.
Those millions were fortunate to have that iconic character personified by a very real man of intelligence, depth and wit.
Personally, although I know that all living things must pass; I miss that man…I miss him because he and the character he personified so well have been a part of the background of my life from the time I was able to understand that life was a finite and wondrous thing. Leonard Nimoy was a small but vital stitch in the fabric of my existence.
That having been said, I believe I shall watch some classic Star Trek later tonight…but first maybe a little ‘Zombies Of The Stratosphere’.

I remember when I found In Search Of had been released on DVD, I grabbed the set immediately. It may be dated now, but Nimoy really made it worth watching. And he was great on Mission Impossible as well.
Leonard Nimoy was a class act, and he will always be the finest Vulcan of them all. We will miss you, Leonard.
He would be the first to say “Hey, I did other stuff too, you know!”
So I will just suggest picking up “Mission Impossible” seasons 4 and 5, starring Leonard Nimoy as “The Great Paris”, retired magician + superspy. Very fun indeed.
i can’t imagine all the things he had to put up with the fanboys and trekkies mobbing him wherever he went, but every time i saw an appearance on tv he was the epitome of grace and class. something today’s entertainers need to learn.
#27 If only MST had done Zombies of the Stratosphere! Mr. Nimoy’s role did not go unnoticed by The Firesign Theater guys when they used footage from it in “J Men Forever!”
I enjoyed his stint on Mission Impossible. There was even a episode with a little inside joke only Trek fans would ever notice.

I’m watching the ’78 version of Invasion of the Body Snatchers now. Very creepy film. When Nimoy’s character goes alien he’s like an evil Spock. All logic and no emotion in a cold sinister sense, “There’s no need for hate now, or love.”
Nimoy was indeed a class act. And I think he helped as much if not more than anybody else to realize Gene Roddenberry’s vision of what Star Trek was supposed to be.

For a real treat, watch “The Project Strigas Affair”, an episode of “The Man From U.N.C.L.E.”, with Shatner as a civilian scientist and Nimoy as an enemy agent.

When I was 5 years old in 1976 I had a Mr. Spock doll (I don’t think they called them action figures yet). I didn’t have a Captain Kirk doll. Just Mr. Spock. Spock always was the essence of Star Trek to me. A lot of people felt that way too and I think it burned Shatner’s bacon a bit.
Before he was Spock, he turned up in a “Get Smart” episode playing a hitman.

I know many of my fellow MSTies are 50’s sci-fi fans like me. Leonard Nimoy had a small role in Them! and also was featured in a real turkey called “The Brain Eaters”. which would have been perfect fodder for JatB.
Very sad about this one. Was never into Star Trek at all until the last two years or so when I started powering through all the series’ (So far completed TOS, Next Generation, Voyager and on season 6 of DS9 currently). Some of the best storytelling in tv history in these shows and Nemoy’s Spock is one of the very best characters. R.I.P
Every time I watch Star Trek I almost always end up reflecting on what a nice man Gene Roddenberry was, and how I was glad that he wasn’t as cynical about the human rave as I am. I think Star Trek might be one of the most positive developments in western pop culture in the 20th century. I’ve been reflecting on this all year as I’ve been on my Star Trek binge. To heck with The Force. I’m joining Star Fleet.

Sad to hear the news of Nimoy’s passing as well. Last night I decided to watch a Twilight Zone with my daughter on Netflix and I selected one that neither of us had seen…it happened to be the one with Nimoy playing a soldier during the last days of WWII. A Twilight Zone moment if there ever was one…

Star Trek is better then Star Wars. Star Trek has real story lines (and takes things that are relevant for its day see Star Trek VI with it being when the wall come down in space). I like a good Star Trek episode. If you have an hour to kill, watch it and you may learn something (about yourself or others).
