my theater was barely full. i guess the wednesday night time threw people off.
man that gamergate joke crashed and burned. nobody laughed which was… quite awkward.
In Flint, MI there were around 75 people there. Pretty steady laughter. The film was horrible in a wonderful way- the kids put their Styrofoam boats together better than this one. And, the first fifteen minutes featured the worst sex scenes in memory. Really annoying and uncomfortable. The Britney Spears woman was easy not to like, and, the rest of the cast was equally reprehensible- funny, the most likeable person in the movie is the incompetent director. Least he tips well at the flower shop.
Little over half-full where I was, but they added another theater locally (Pittsburgh) so that might have been part of the reason. Honestly you could show the movie without them and it would be hilarious, so adding them just makes it dangerously funny
Too bad, it was a good joke. I laughed at least. I should add I don’t particularly care about the controversy one way or the other
Theater was about 3/4 full I would guess here at the Lennox 24 in Columbus OH. The whole show was great! I’d never seen The Room before, and don’t think I could make it through without the Rifftrax crew making it tolerable. Wow, what a mess of a movie. We had a great time, and right as the show started, some people came and sat in the row in front of us who had brought their Crow and Tom Servo!
I really hope #hipdick is trending after that!
I was the only person that laughed at the gamergate joke in the theater in Lakeland, FL. I then tried to succinctly explain what gamergate was to my brother on the drive home. If you aren’t actively engaged in the video gaming world, you probably won’t know what it is.
Bill Cosby joke went over well. Also, I felt that with this film the guys didn’t have to riff as much as normal. The movie was so chock full of WTF moments without commentary.
note to self: sit way back in the theater next time because when you sit close like tonight, the riffers are screaming loud!
the short was mildly amusing but the room was consistantly funny-both movie and riffs.
one of my favorite chuckles was when Lisa tells Mark she wants to see him again and he utters back ‘but we were just together.’
Mine was maybe 2/3 full, and most of us were super into it, adding our own riffs and filling in ones that didn’t make it from the Rifftrax audio file. <333
I enjoyed myself thoroughly! Was surprised to see a lot of jokes were saved over from the original riff, because they said this would be a whole new riff, but screw it, they were still funny and the new jokes they made over the sex scenes were even better. I like that RiffTrax has been less afraid to tackle risque subject matter in their riffs of late. My audience was awfully chatty in the back, making jokes themselves and reciting lines along with the movie, but I got used to it, namely because this is a movie that merits audience participation in one way or another. Plus, my theater did not realize that there were trivia slides before the show, so I missed those sadly. Will have to give them a heads-up when I attend SHARKNADO 2.
Favorite riff: “You were gonna MARRY that thing?!?” But the Cosby riff was so dead-on it hurt, same with the Gamergate one. That joke actually went over real well with the 20-somethings in our crowd; I thought the guy in the back was choking to death.
There seemed to be more people in the theater in Evansville, IN than usual. Enjoyed the jokes, but man, what a horrible movie….’course, that’s the point! Hahaha!!! Kinda wish they’d made a Peter Steel/Type O Negative joke about Tommy (or Johnny) and a Mike Rutherford/Genesis joke about Mike…but, that’s just the musician in me. Still, great fun! Thanks for the laughs, guys!
Lots of fun. Quite a bit more topical humor and they sure got a lot of milage out of Mark’s early lines.
The biggest change was that they riffed the content of the sex scenes when in the original riffing(and most other Rifftrax) the jokes are really about drawing attention away from the adult content.
Only complaint, Wiseau’s resemblance to a dead-for-five-days Anthony Hopkins in a wig went uncommented upon for the second riff in a row. Oh well

Oh, hai, Satellite of Love!
I’ve watched The Room with and without the guys many times, but this, THIS was the first time I’ve ever really seen it, because it has to be seen in a movie theater with an appreciative audience! Union Square in NYC was full, as usual, and people were laughing pretty much from Mike, Kevin & Bill’s entrance. The short was as goofy & disturbing as the rest of the At Your Fingertips series and a good way to warm up. But once The Room started, we were off! And it rarely let up for the next 90+ minutes. Some people were even throwing plastic spoons, like I hear they used to do at the midnight showings in L.A.
I was surprised how much space the guys left for people to laugh at the movie itself, and I wonder if that was planned, or they just played off the audience reaction. Because some of the biggest laughs in our theater was at the movie itself. It’s easy to forget between viewings just what a bizarre series of endless non sequiturs, dropped subplots and illogical behaviors this movie is. NO ONE in this movie behaves like a human!
I hope that they can strike a deal with Tommy to release this version!
I forgot how much of a bizarre-fest this thing was. I guess you can either pay for therapy to get over your breakup or make a movie.
My theater is ALWAYS half-full at best, but there are bigger and better ones a few miles in every direction so it doesn’t bother me too much. I’m happy they mixed up some jokes from the original (and laid off the woman who played Lisa a bit, thankfully), although I could have used a few Gorilla Grams now and then…ick.
This seemed more consistently funny than the original as well – I think they gave the movie some more room to just be weird. Good stuff. The final “At Your Fingertips” short was fantastic as well, those things must have just been some stock footage someone threw together to sell to schools.
Literally my first time with The Room, so I walked out of the theater with such confusion.
But our Columbia, SC theater was straight-up packed. And the Gamergate joke hit home, with a dude in the back yelling “Actually, it’s about ethics in journalism!”
There were only about a dozen people at the AMC Orange Park 24, just outside of Jacksonville, but that’s about normal. There’s another theater in town that regularly shows Rifftrax, and I suspect there isn’t really enough business in Jacksonville to support two theaters.
As for the show, wow! It’s a shame the At Your Fingertips series is coming to an end, but it was fun while it lasted (“At least he isn’t gluing hamsters to his sister”). And as for the movie, it seemed like they were sticking too close to the MP3 riffs in the beginning, but they got away from that later and wound up with a good balance. The Bill Cosby riff went over well, and the Mark/Lisa staircase sex scene was hysterical!
There was one odd thing that happened to me on the way into the theater, however. The ticket taker explained (in great detail) where my theater was, then handed me a pair of 3-D glasses. Fortunately I didn’t need them; can you imagine Tommy Wiseau’s naked posterior in 3-D?!?
Now I can. You’ll be hearing from my lawyer.
Nearly a full house at the Celebration Cinema in Lansing. Quite a good response from the people in it, though.
After Tommy’s character shoots himself and whats’-her-face says “Wake up”, someone in the back of the theater cried out “Wake up?!” which drew a great laugh.
I had not seen “The Room” before so I wasn’t prepared for what a sit-on-your-head-and-make-you-beg movie it would be. Also I was perpetually distracted by the decision to have Lisa’s Mom and Psychologist Guy be portrayed by actual actors; they seemed to exist in a different universe from the scenes they were in.
The theater was about half full here in Boise, Idaho. Got my buddy (a long time MSTie like myself) to catch it with me for once and we had a great time. I’ve watched The Room too many times (riffed or not), but this had to be my favorite, seeing it in a theater, and with an audience, for the first time.
I was disappointed at first by the number of recycled riffs after being advertised as “all-new”, as others noted, but I was THANKFUL that they embraced the ugly truth of the sex scenes for once! I do not miss the Disembaudio sketches that tried to distract from the nastiness on screen in the least. The riffs just got better and better as the movie went along and the laughs from the audience, both in Nashville and my theater, got louder and louder. It was fun to hear the reactions of The Room virgins trying to comprehend the insanity of the screenplay and the horror of Tommy (I know, I’m a bit sadistic). :devil:
The highlight of the night for me: I finally know if corn is grass!
Saw it at The Rio 24 in Albuquerque, NM. Audience in the theater (or should I say The Room?) was about 70% full. Loved it & laughed hard like I usually do as did the audience. Loved Weird Al’s parody of “Blurred Lines” too as well as all the on-screen warm-up humor before the main event (the person I went with still misses the Gloria Estefan concert warm-up though;) Never thought I’d say this but this was the MOST surprising Rifftrax event so far (which is a good thing here) for the following reasons:
1. The Nudity – I think “The Room” is the 1st Rifftrax event that probably should’ve got a “Rated R” warning not just for Wiseau’s butt but also for Lisa’s breasts. Thought they’d “bleep” (or should I just say censor?) them out.
2. The Cursing – I do believe this the 1st film that Rifftrax did that kept the cursing in it.
3. Controversial jokes – Add me to the list of people who were surprised at the jokes about now “controversial” people like Bill Cosby (& Robert Durst) and “events” like GamerGate (& I was happily surprised at both.) The Cosby joke got the BIGGEST laugh, btw but oddly enough “GamerGate” got a “whuh?” response.
4. The film itself – “The Room” isn’t Sci Fi, Fantasy or Horror just a really bad Softcore Soap Opera which might be the most surprising thing on this list here.
All in all another great night with Rifftrax was had and I’m looking forward to Sharknado 2 in July as well;)
A little more than half full at my theater. Definite biggest laugh of the night was, “Oh no! He looks like Weird Al as Rambo from UHF!”
Maybe 20 at the Mira Mesa Edwards Cinema in north San Diego. Lots of laughs, but all that nudity has left me confused and, frankly, a little too familiar with the anatomy of Johnny and Lisa.
Of course, now that I no longer live in Nashville, Bill & Kevin came outside to say hello to everybody in line – waited so long last time! I stand by my original statement that meeting Bridget was pretty awesome.
I love The Room. I’ve seen it countless times. But nothing could prepare me for seeing Tommy’s butt on the big screen. I wouldn’t have minded if Mike came out with an umbrella and held it over the screen at certain times.
Great to watch the folks who clearly had never seen the movie before; they were clearly flabbergasted. It’s the only time I’ve ever watched a Rifftrax movie before seeing it riffed. It took me a while to get used to the riffing over a movie which, frankly, needs no embellishment, but once I got used to it, it was a delight.
I’m surprised they weren’t harder on the non-Wiseau actors. I mean, at least Tommy has charisma….if charisma is the right word….

That, and at least one riff I thought of while watching the Happy Birthday song: Wow, they can’t sing, either!
I’d never seen The Room, but some (many?) people in the theater had. It wasn’t packed, but there was a really good sized number of people there. And not only did people laugh knowingly and recite some of the key lines, there was also a group of people there that acted out 3 scenes as they happened on screen – the drug dealer fight, and two football tossing scenes. There was even a “Tommy Wiseau” addressing us at the end as we left the theater, in full accent! I really got a kick out of those, and joined other theater goers applauding them after each re-enactment. Much of it was almost right in front of me, too (I was in the front row, not counting seats much closer to the screen. A few people in those seats got to see the football parts in front of them).
A couple more riffs I thought of:
Tommy’s accent was so all over the place, Madonna was like, “Bloody ‘ell?!”
That accent even had Kathleen Turner scratching her head! (if you’ve ever heard her talk…)
And complete agreement about parts without riffs where the movie, itself, provided unintentional laughs. Altogether great show!
Saw it in Calgary, at the Sunridge Cineplex. The theater was mostly empty except for me and maybe 10 more people. Rifftrax might be a harder sell up here, or it could’ve just been the time/location.
Great show, with hilarious riffs. Especially the Cosby one, Gamergate seemed to land with a thud here, but I got it. The second biggest laughs seemed to be whenever Mark made one of his bizarre non sequiturs.
The most meta moment for me at least was when Weird Al’s White & Nerdy played before the show.

Local theater didn’t pick this up. Hope it get’s released for those who couldn’t make it. Especially with new riffs.
Going into this, I had only seen the original Rifftrax version as a “best of” compilation on Youtube, so I had no idea of how disjointed and disorienting “The Room” actually is. There’s a point in the middle where I couldn’t tell if we were barely through the first act or two scenes from the finale.
There were a couple really amazing lines that haven’t been mentioned, like the Shakespeare quotes and Bill’s version of the “I did not hit her” soliloquy as Peter the Psychologist. (Kevin was cracking up at that moment–did Bill improvise that or was it just that funny?) Also weird in hindsight: the friend who replaces Peter–the “I agree with that!” guy–looks a lot like Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner. Knowing this movie, he’d end up turning into the Amazing Bulk.
75% full in Philadelphia. I think I laughed just as much at the actual movie as the riffs. I spent the rest of the night researching the history of The Room. I can’t wait to see James Franco’s film, based on Maaaark’s book.
Also, for those who left early, they showed Tommy’s underwear ad after the credits. Wow! I’m ordering an autographed script for a reading party. You get a free pair of underwear with your order. Who knew? Score!

Here in Fort Smith,Arkansas there were about 12 people in attendance..Really laughed at the hip dick joke,but some jokes didn’t have the same impact.We laughed at the parts when Mike and the guys weren’t riffing and that was from the actors themselves,the way they delivered their lines or just their actions..It was my first time and I enjoyed it a lot….Thanks Rifftrax!!
Full house in Paramus NJ. Non-stop laughter. As usual I was the oldest one in attendance (47). Still amazes me how Rifftrax can appeal to the younger generations! The gamergate joke went over very well. One beef I had was the picture quality of the movie. It looked like a retail sourced DVD is what was used, and it looked a bit fuzzy on the big screen. Supposedly the movie was filmed in both 35mm and HD so it’s a shame a better quality “print” couldn’t be used.
About half full here in Amarillo, Texas. Our theater dropped sound right as the Rifftrax opening was on but fortunately we got it restored before the guys showed up on stage. The show itself was fantastic. The short was a proper ending for the weird At Your Fingertip series. I hadn’t seen The Room before but I have heard of it to say it is awful is a huge understatement. I was kind of thinking that the nudity wouldn’t go over and the awkward sex scenes would be really difficult to get through but the guys really made them hilarious. Our theater was literally cracking up at one point over them. The Bill Cosby joke landed pretty well, I think maybe 3 or 4 people got the gamergate joke. Overall the callbacks during the movie to all of Mark’s really odd comments were just great.
Lisa’s mom reminded me of the angry psychic lady from Merlin’s Shop. I was almost expecting it to be the same actress, but she would be about 90 by now.
Like @15’s comment, it was too my first time with “The Room”. I’d only heard about through the Rifftrax forum. What I’ve seen cannot be unseen!!!! :pain: What the hell was he thinking? This is why certain people just shouldn’t be allowed to make movies!!! I managed to avert my eyes during the infamous ass scenes (so I was spared the horror of seeing Wiseau’s horrible nakedness). Can anyone tell me just what exactly the plot is? I still don’t know couldn’t tell you. The show was hilarious, as always. My stomach is still hurting from laughing.
Also, is that how Wiseau really speaks? Has anyone been able to figure out just where the hell in Europe he’s supposed to be from? I’ve heard better accents in video games! And who taught him English???? My brain is still in shock from this movie.

Okay, like I said upthread, I’ve watched this movie a lot, but last night two things struck me for the first time:
– I’ve always thought the time frame was about a month or so, according to the talk about Johnny’s birthday party, but in the early parts of the film, we’re told repeatedly that Johnny and Lisa met 5 years ago; at the end, when they’re yelling at each other, it’s 7. Typical bad Wiseau continuity or is thing supposed to take place over two years? (Which would mean that Lisa & Mark’s affair was a longstanding thing, too, which would actually make more sense — well, “sense” being relative in Wiseauland).
– Related to the above, I always thought the whole movie occurred just before the wedding was supposed to take place. But in the beginning, Johnny is Lisa’s fiance. Then, by the birthday party scene, he’s being referred to by the mom as Lisa’s husband and Lisa is faking a pregnancy. Did they get married during the course of the film? Of course, there was no wedding scene, but there was a scene of the guys playing football in tuxedos. So was that supposed to be symbolic of the wedding taking place? And if so, wouldn’t that mean that Johnny is actually married to Mark, Peter and Denny?
I’m exhausted just thinking about it.
Just like Ed Wood, you really have to WORK at a Tommy Wiseau movie!
Sorry, the short as usual was hysterical, but I consider this one a bit of a miss.

If you read a little into the history of the making of the movie, you’ll learn two things:
1. None of the HD camera footage was used in the final print.
2. Only Tommy Wiseau really cared about making the movie. By the end, the crew in general was so sick of it all they literally didn’t bother to check to see if the camera was in focus before shooting.
In short: That print is probably the best we’re going to get.
Great turnout in my theater in Sylvania, Ohio. As a guy who’s seen The Room raw more times than any mortal should be proud of, I knew what I was getting into here. My brother has an unhealthy obsession with this movie, so much so that his phone incoherently mumbles “Oh, hai Mark!” whenever I text him… Anyway, he just came home from college, and I knew we had to see this together.
Honestly, this is one of the funniest shows I’ve seen them do. I laughed myself into seeing stars several times, especially because some of their jokes are jokes I’ve leveled at the film while watching it! The “I’m really busy” and “I’m thinkin’ of movin’ to a new place, I’m makin’ some good money, man!” riffs just got funnier and funnier, and the line “After appearing in this movie, the Golden Gate Bridge jumped off itself!” STILL has my sides hurting! It was perfect and hysterical from beginning to end, and BOY OH BOY, do I hope this live version gets a DVD!
Oh, and… hip dicks, won’t you? ;-)
Our theater in Chicago was 90% full, all around great show with the audience responding well to the whole thing.
Me and my wife found the funniest moment in the movie itself to be Mark’s annoyed reply to Lisa calling him after their love making session:
“I miss you.”
“I just saw you, what are you talking about!”
The Ammon, ID show was 2/5ths full, which is pretty normal–it’s a long drive for some of us. The Hipdick jokes got the most volume from the crowd, followed by the “sex on the stairs” bit. Near the end I think we all were surprised by the “walk like a human” joke and (the best IMHO) Tommy’s “And you invite all my friends. What a good idea, Lisa.” line. Was that last one an offhand compliment to the script he wrote?
Overall, an excellent evening, and everyone agreed that the movie should have ended with Denny picking up Tommy’s gun and shooting them all.
I don’t know if I should point it out, but The Disaster Artist by Greg Sestero (Mark) about the making of The Room by his actual real-life friend Tommy Wiseau….
It paints an ever-darker picture of the production; I’ve heard it kinda ruined the movie for some. However, it does redeem Juliette Danielle (Lisa) who according to Greg was the nicest of women and endured hours of Tommy Wiseau writhing around on top of her.
Oh hai. Saw it last night barely 1/2 full theater in Pittsburgh/North Hills. It killed! Now I want me some Russell Stover’s.
Given how one of the online bonuses this time around is the riff script for the event, I can confirm that that Bill doing Peter’s version of the “I did not hit her” soliloquy was planned from the start (and that Kevin was laughing due to the moment just that darn funny).
In terms of Full House jokes, I preferred the one about Jesse and Joey recreating the “chocolate sex” scene.

I thought it was hilarious; the best Live since Birdemic.
“I. HAVE. BREAST CANCER!” … you know you’re in bizarro world when that’s hysterically funny.
Now I’m hungry for some barbecue chicken rice.
Was Bill shushing the local audience at one point? It seemed like someone had just yelled out something prior to that. I’m not familiar enough with The Room to know if they were pre-quoting (super annoying in any context) or just screaming out their incomprehensible rage :)

I was at the Belcourt Theater, and YES, he was… We were on the 5th row, and some moron screamed out something from way back in the back. I didn’t catch Bill’s reaction, but the people I was with did, which we talked about afterwards. I’m like you–I’ve never been to a screening of The Room, so I don’t know all of the “audience participation” rituals, so I don’t know exactly what the guy said. It was something involving the f-word and Mark… I’m no prude, but the whole thing was extremely embarrassing.
Aside from that, I loved the short and had a great time!
I saw it in Austin TX, in a rather sparse crowd. (Oh hi Austin, where were you guys?)
Perhaps the Gamergate joke didn’t go over very well because it isn’t very funny when craven criminal cretins harass and threaten some women, and it’s reduced to an “I don’t like girls’ games” related quip, HAH? Yeah, that was a bit of a bad note. But mostly this thing killed. There is so much wrong with this film and the guys’ riffs made me laugh even harder than I laughed at “Birdemic” which I didn’t think was possible. I recently read Greg Sestero’s book in preparation for this event, and I highly recommend it. It’s pretty entertaining…fascinating, even.
Man, did the At Your Fingertips people run out of plausible ideas or what! You can’t get much worse than “Styrofoam floats. We could do a thing on that, I guess.”
