Is Doug Herzog still there? And, if so, will he try to cancel the show or fire its host in response?

I know the guys are veteran comedy writers but I am nervous for them, this show is all improv basically! Can’t wait to see it regardless.

#3, They obviously give the comedians the questions beforehand. No way they can come up with all that stuff on the fly. There are only so many Robin Williamses out there.

  5. I believe Doug Herzog is still with Comedy Central, but I don’t know if he’s still the President or not.

Nice to see another Comedy Central series acknowledging MST3K to some degree. For the longest time, it’s only been Jon Stewart on The Daily Show (and also Stephen Colbert retweeting Bill Corbett’s tweet about the Star Wars trailer, but I think that wasn’t intended).

I’m sure Doug Herzog forgot about “Mystery Science Theater 3000” as soon as he okayed the cancellation.

  7. He seemed to remember the show enough to NOT mention the show during the 13th anniversary special.

Although, I remember Frank Conniff saying, that it may have had to do with the current CC execs not really knowing what MST3K is, and not realizing it has a fanbase.

Have you seen @midnight? It’s about as improvised and spontaneous as a State of the Union speech.

There are few comics who may “riff” a bit on that show, but don’t mistake that for the fact most of the time it’s heavily scripted.

I regret that I have but one “like” to give to that post.

They could’ve fooled me, seeing as it’s mostly unfunny with the occasional bright spot.

Still, this will be the one night I DVR a solid hour and a half instead of just catching the first few minutes after The Nightly Show. Speaking of which, Larry Wilmore mentioned Chip Hitler in that show’s first 2 weeks, but IDK if it was an actual reference or an amazing coincidence.

Great to hear. I will be watching. BTW, I believe Doug Herzog is indeed still at CC. He is stuffed and mounted in the lobby.

According to the all-knowing Wiki oracle:

[Doug Herzog] is currently serving as President of Viacom Music and Entertainment Group, overseeing networks such as MTV, VH1, Logo TV, Comedy Central, and Spike. He is credited with bringing South Park, The Daily Show, and The Colbert Report to Comedy Central and canceling Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Fun fact: Despite the Canadian-sounding name, Doug Herzog is from New Jersey, so, presumably, he’s a lousy driver.

Hopefully Dr.Balleau, Jondor, and Eyeball from “Bloodlust” got to stuff and mount him.

I have actually seen it a number of times and I suppose I did not realize that they had the topics ahead of time. I tend to only watch anymore when comedians I really like are on so maybe I am baised. I HAVE noticed that they edit the show a lot so perhaps they edit out any jokes that don’t “land”.

  18. I wonder if the host of @Midnight even knows — or will even be informed by the staff — that MST3K was Comedy Central’s “signature” series for the better part of seven years.

Mike, I have absolutely no doubt that host Chris Hardwick knows a great many things about MST3K.
