Lake San Marcos, Calif—Flora Gordon, Bert I.Gordon’s wife and go-to special effects maven for many of his films died here January 26. She was 90.
She got an “assistant technical effects” credit for the movies in episodes 313- EARTH VS. THE SPIDER and 319- WAR OF THE COLOSSAL BEAST. She was uncredited for her special effects work in the movie in episode 517- THE BEGINNING OF THE END. She got a “special visual effects” credit for the movies in episodes 523- VILLAGE OF THE GIANTS and 411- THE MAGIC SWORD (as Flora Gordon) and for the movie in episode 414- TORMENTED. She got a “assistant technical effects” credit for the movie in episode 309- THE AMAZING COLOSSAL MAN and a wardrobe credit (as Flora Lang) for the movie in episode 210- KING DINOSAUR.

The Hollywood Reporter has the story.

Thanks to our buddy Paul for the heads up.

She must have been a pretty talented lady, and a pioneer. I doubt there were many women doing visual effects back then. RIP

Basically, you’ve got your “Flash Gordons” and you’ve got your “Flora Gordons.”

The latter are ten times sexier, prettier, and smarter.

  5. Mr. Krasker says:

I found it very interesting (and telling) that Mr. Gordon, in his autobiography, never mentioned Flora once. He talked about his carreer, and he talked about his daughter, but Flora was completely ignored.

It’s sad that someone who so clearly helped him achieve his goals ended up being eradicated from his life.

I have no idea why, nor do I really want to. It was just a very glaring omission.
