I didn’t know the writer of Die Hard, 48 Hours and the Van Damme Street Fighter wrote the old Gemini Man series! (And the Powers of Matthew Starr.)

Bit disappointed by no Kim Catrell, but Rae Dawn Chong is definitely the next best thing!

No interview with Mickey Lolich for Incredible Melting Man? Oh well- I did hear him one time on a local radio show talk about the film and how he had to pay his own way to California and he knew it was a cheese ball while filming it.

I was wondering when we were gonna hear about these! That looks like a good selection, I’m especially interested in the FVI feature. I take it those interviews for Melting Man are the same from Shout’s release of the movie proper (which I bought on Blu-ray but haven’t watched yet!). Cool!

  6. Finally! I’ve been wondering when this would be announced.. Looks like a fine collection, I’m most excited for the FVI featurette, been waiting for something on them. Yeah, as A.J. (A Jerk) points out above at #5, it seems The Incredible Melting Man interviews will be the same from the Scream Factory Blu-ray release, which is, eh, okay, I guess it’s fine, but I own that Blu and wish there was something new…but what that would be I have no clue…in fact, nevermind, those interviews are great and they’re a great inclusion for this release. Smart idea, Shout!

Awesome! I can’t wait to see the beautiful Rae Dawn today. All of these are from Ballyhoo I hope.

  8. Yeah I’m surprised by no Kim Catrall interview either. Did she ask for too much money or something?

A Rick Baker interview is kind of surprising…..

They were going to have a Ben Murphy interview, but they gave him a turkey sandwich for lunch, and he stormed out, never to return.

Great extras! Sad there’s nothing with Kim, but you will NEVER hear me complain about Shout’s bonus features. They always knock it out of the park!

I was actually half expecting to find out what the extras were when I got the set. I’m expecting it in a few days from Shout’s website. This was quite a nice surprise!

Wasn’t Sachs one of the few directors who loved the MST treatment to the film?

And how many of us want the new MST to do Galaxina?

Gonna buy this for the FVI feature.

I didn’t realize Galaxina and IMM were directed by the same guy. IMM is way more fun. Galaxina would be pretty easy to get the rights to but it’s a tough slog. It would be nothing but them getting mad at all the terrible attempts at comedy the movie tries. Doesn’t help matters that it’s a T&A film featuring a young girl who died tragically either. The Barbarella ripoff I always thought they’d do is Starcrash.

Having sat through it in the wee hours at a sci-festival….not me. Well, mean, I’d be happy to see the new show take on some familiar untouched non-punchline material like Star Crash, but:
If you’re hoping for the Crown Pictures softcore thrills promised by the poster, forget it. Just…forget it. Dorothy Stratten is rarely in the same movie with the rest of the characters, and sits alone as decoration for about 80% of her time on screen, while what we get is Avery Schreiber in a painful homemade attempt at Spaceballs, where Sachs was so proud of his garage-made space shots, we get them every third shot. (Until, during the tenth or twelfth intercutting of spacescapes and Stratten sitting, some would-be Servo in the audience shouted out “Someone do something resembling anything!”)
“Battlefield: Earth” was the next movie we were going to see on the festival, and we were all set for a rowdy evening when we saw the program, but after Galaxina, our wills and souls had been too utterly sapped to enjoy it.

I was going to buy this set anyway, just to FINALLY get “Riding With Death”, but I’m impressed by the bonus features. Steven de Souza was also the writer of “Commando”, the 1985 Schwarzenegger vehicle which also starred … Rae Dawn Chong! Hollywood is a small world.

I just got word that my preorder with bonus disc shipped! I can’t wait to see Riding With Death again. That might be the funniest episode of the SciFi era.

  19. Hey MSTies! I/Ballyhoo put together all the features, with the exception of MELTING MAN. Those were from the previous Scream! Factory release. I tried for Murphy and Cattrall, but both were not available. Still, there’s some fun stuff on this release, especially the half-hour Film Ventures documentary. I hope you guys enjoy them! Now… I’m off to film the behind the scenes at the MST3K/RIFFTRAX event! I hope to see some of you there!!!

Daniel – I just wanted to say you guys do a brilliant job with the extras on these disks! I only wish they were more. (You should tell SHOUT! that us fans think if do some stuff for the Vol 1 – 12 releases, I would actually re-buy them.)

On another note – my set just came in the mail today. Looks like I know what I’m watching leading up to the reunion on Tuesday!

You rock, Daniel!!!! From a fan who loves watching and rewatching all of the bonus features on these disks, thank you for all of your continuing hard work and dedication. We appreciate it more than we can say. Personally, I have been waiting for a VFI documentary for years, hoping against hope it would happen someday. I’m so psyched that its finally happening now! I hope my set arrives today so I can watch it!

Two of my all-time favorites, and two of my least cared for episodes.
‘Riding with Death’ is the greatest, and ‘Melting Man’ is somewhere in my top 5.

‘City Limits’ I was never impressed by, it had a few decent laughs but the movie is too dark and the genre makes me yawn. I can handle ‘Stranded in Space’ though, it is pretty funny riffing.

All said, I’ll definitely have to own this one.

Mine arrived yesterday. Last night I watched the two “Summer Blockbuster” specials (both are awesome!) and then watched the interview with Rae Dawn Chong, which was interesting. She seems pretty down-to-earth and likable. Also managed to watch most of “City Limits” before it got too late.

Got mine Saturday, as well! That was fast, Shout! Factory!
So far I’ve watched the first 30 minutes of City Limits with a big smile on my face. No more crummy fan copy, now crystal clear crappy quality! (Because, the copy of City Limits MST used was dreary, to say the least) So pleased! And very trippy to see the early slate at the start of the episode!

Oh, and on the reissue of Vol. 1, there is a Ballyhoo doc! Check it out!

I’ve seen Galaxina, thank you, and yes, I know you see nothing of Dorothy Stratten in the film (I understand her contract with Hef prohibited any nudity for anyone else). It’s not nice to say it, but she couldn’t worth a darn, so it’s just as well she says nothing for the first half of the movie. The movie is just plain stupid, and it deserves to be on MST. Nobody in the film can act (well, except for Angelo Rossitto, playing the baby alien, who had more acting experience than the rest of the cast — and crew — combined), Schrieber isn’t as funny as he can be, every time someone calls out “Blue Star” you hear that stupid chorus, and there’s a guy there wearing Vulcan ears that weren’t taped to his head and an upside-down Enterprise logo on his shirt.

Now Battlefield [insert subliminal Dying-Etics statement] Earth would drive the ‘bots insane. And I still say they should do Zontar: The Thing From Venus just to enjoy the sight of the bots’ brains exploding.

Yesssss! Finally, a documentary on FVI, thank you!! I can’t help but think my incessant posting on wanting a FVI mini docu might have had at least a tiny part in this happening (ok probably not but I can dream :p )

I have to say, whoever did the animation for the menu screen on “Incredible Melting Man” did a pretty nice job themselves with the melting puppet.

My Volume XXXVI set just arrived! I haven’t made my way through all the discs yet, but I had to check out “Riding With Death” first. It’s so nice to get a pristine copy of this episode … and even with the clarity of the DVD, it STILL sounds like Jim Stafford is saying “New England Journalists.”
