What Did You Think?

Theater a bit more full than in recent shows (I wasn’t here for MST3K reunion show, so I don’t know how full it was, but maybe the increase is a residual effect) — maybe half full — in suburban Scranton.

I liked this one a lot. It was up there with “Jack the Giant Killer,” which I think was one of their best. Great short (“Time to visit that guy he can’t quit!”) and a truly crazy movie (“I’ve seen things no mouse should see…”).

What did you think? (“We don’t need any more ladders!”)

    Thomas:
Oh yeah, the catfish actor is actually a very respected actor who was in a lot of Kurosawa movies.

Toho was a contract studio, and the folks that were paid to work on the classic Kurosawas occasionally worked on the Godzillas as well. (As did “The Peanuts” who were a major musical act that had contracted with Toho at the time.)
So, yes, as @42 points out, that IS the head-rubbing leader of the Seven Samurai, assuming we’re talking about the editor as “catfish”. Not that we would have expected MK&B to make that distinction.

I loved this one, saw it at the Christiana Cinamark.
I always thought the Japanese monster flicks were the
    best MSTies.

  3. I was enjoying myself. Not the strongest, but a solid show. However, I did notice that I was dozing off towards the end and just let it happen. Woke up in time for the conclusion.

Oddly, the Cinemark Tinseltown in Rochester, NY wasn’t showing it on Thursday, so I had to make do at Regal Henrietta 18 for the replay tonight.

Was quite good, and having not seen Carnival of Souls, that’s gonna be interesting. The first-ever Criterion Collection Rifftrax!

(Saw on the show history linked above Mike actually came here in April 2000 to introduce Carnival of Souls and hold a Q&A session at the Eastman House.)

Couldn’t stand the flicker…got refund &came back to AMC Clifton for 2-Nites’ encore…loved “tell rotted potatos i love them” and the Harold Lloyd reference. Didn’t realize the villian ‘Nelson’ was supposed to be an American? Weird. His death was ridiculously funny even w/o riffs. /sorry they’re doing Carnival of Souls as a live riff/ btw, theater 1/2 full for this encore…not bad. Sayonara

A decent crowd for the replay at Monroeville Mall Cinemark (yes, the 1978 Dawn of the Dead Monroeville Mall, although drastically changed from that time), about 50 people at a theater that usually doesn’t show the replays. I was slightly bored but entertained; I either don’t get or can’t appreciate kaiju and this was my first time seeing Mothra; if it were going to be released as a VOD I would have skipped the live show entirely but I wanted the context in case I get the jokes-only riff someday. All I could think of every time Bulldog was onscreen was his role as Yabu in Shogun. Not one of my top RiffTrax live shows but entertaining. I thought the guys were very relaxed and their interplay was better than usual, including the Nelson jokes and the bit about Bill’s colonoscopy.

Watched the reshow last night at Eagan Regal 16. Theater was maybe 2/3rds full? Pretty good attendance for the non-live one, anyway. I enjoyed the short, although I thought maybe they’d play up a bit more how unbearably inappropriate it was to show a small child bathing with soap that appears to be sentient and fully aware of, the, um…scrubbing…ewwwwwwwwww!

The movie was fun–I’d never actually seen it, so it was kind of neat as a piece of genre history. Bit of a slog in the middle, but that’s why I watch ’em riffed.

Anyone else notice how Soapy was transparent like Captain Kirk was when he was trapped between dimensions in the Tholian Web episode?
