I remember back when the Volume 3 reissue was first announced Shout claimed that it would be no different from the original Rhino set, but by the time it was finalized, we not only got the MSTHour wraps for “The Unearthly” but a nice reminisce from the actor who played Rommel for Sidehackers.

I’m not demanding anything of Shout in order to get me to purchase this (that’s a given). However, I think it’s worth pointing out that Shout has shown itself willing to surprise us by going above and beyond.

It’s a good set, Hamlet notwithstanding. I’ve already got the Rhino version, but to anybody who doesn’t, enjoy!

So much hate for Hamlet. It’s one of my favorites.

Would to see a brief interview from Debbie Reynolds and Beef McManMuscle. See how their marriage is going and how they fell in love amid the zambonies…

If I remember my history of Warner’s takeover of Rhino, IV and V were from the new guys’ “Huh, there was a CC series?” phase–
Which means Shout’s Vol. V will be all SFC Mike episodes before Joel/Mike diversity returns to the Vol 6+ reissues.

This one had intros by Michael J Nelson on each episode that were part of the episode, meaning they were not a separate feature. So unless Shout Factory cuts those off, the extras from the Rhino set stays.

The other way to look at it is the first three volumes had zero Sci-Fi episodes, so they were balancing it out. I really think your “takeover” theory has squadoosh to do with it.

I know Santa Claus’s daughter claims everyone on set assumed the movie was satire/parody, so I wonder if she’d go on screen with her defense. Or maybe she just knew a turkey when she saw it, I tend to be forgiving with her since some of the age jokes seemed to be more aimed at the bad makeup and wardrobe. She had a smirk to some of her scenes that suggest she was aware of the movie’s quality.

And Hamlet rocks, no other opinions will be allowed ;)

If there were some S6+7 CC episodes in the 4-5 Warner Changeover mix, that would lend credence to the “balance” theory.

Having entire collections of S8-10 SFC episodes more reflects the Space Mutinyism of new-generation fans who don’t think any episode ever EXISTED before Pearl and Bobo.
And Warner execs who either belonged to that mindset, or were just clueless suits who never watched the show and didn’t get their Sales Demographic information from any other vocal cult faction of the fans.

I’m glad that Shout is rereleasing the Rhino sets. I’m finding that more and more of my Rhino DVDs are failing (I get a “unreadable disk” type of error code, or the movie gets to a certain point and suddenly jumps back to some earlier scene). They must have been very cheaply manufactured.

After the VHS, single DVDs, and three volumes of DVD sets, and the end of MST3K, time had caught up with Rhino and it was appropriate to release some Sci-Fi Channel episodes on DVD. After IV and V, the sets were CC only or a mix of CC and Sci-Fi episodes. God willing, it eventually won’t matter and every episode will be on DVD.

Sorry but this is one of the worst sets they ever put out. Hamlet and Overdrawn at the Memory Bank are unwatchable to me. Girl in Gold Boots is below average for MST3K. Only Space Mutiny is worth seeing.

There were episodes before Pearl and Bobo?

I thought I’d post this here. I just received my preordered copy of Volume 37 from Shout! Factory. Shout! hasn’t listed the Special Features on their website yet, so…

*The Human Duplicators – MST Hour Wraps
*Escape 2000 – New Introduction by Mary Jo Pehl; Leave The Bronx: Making Escape 2000; Theatrical Trailer
*The Horror Of Party Beach – New Introduction by Mary Jo Pehl; Return To Party Beach; Theatrical Trailer
*Invasion Of The Neptune Men – New Introduction by Mary Jo Pehl; August on Neptune; Theatrical Trailer

I also received the MST3K Fancy Hollywood Awards Preview Specials bonus disc. I can’t wait to start watching these!

    Look, you weren’t there:
Warner bought Rhino and ran it into the ground, that’s how we GOT Shout Factory in the first place when the former real Rhino’s had to start another business. (We also got EOne’s vintage-rerun company, that’s separate from Shout, IIRC?) The timeframe was approximately right after the mix of Vol. 3 (with both Atomic Brain and Sidehackers).
As one who was on Usenet group at the time, I clearly remembering the fans noticing the SFC (not just M&tB)-heavy content of Vol 5, and asking the new Warner-employed Rhino heads, “What gives? One would be coincidence…”

The answer we got was a bit suspiciously closer to the “There were TWO shows??” theory, and 6 and upwards began returning to mixed lineup. One may suspect more a case of cause and effect.

Could be, or it could also be that the laser in your player is going out of alignment. If this problem only occurs on one of your players, and the player is old or very heavily used, you might want to consider buying a new one.

I’m just watching this, and THERE APPEARS TO BE AN ERROR WITH THE MST HOUR BUMPERS. The opening to part 2 does not appear to be included.

I’m a little sad about this, as I love, love, love the MST Hour bumpers.

The same discs that no longer work in my DVD player, also won’t work in my iMac. So it’s gotta be the discs.

Yep, you are absolutely correct. The opening part of part 2 is not included. And it’s long gone from YouTube as well. It involved Jack Perkins holding a paper mask of Jack Perkins, and many duplication jokes.

    My guess is:
    1. A mistake.
    2. They can’t find the master.
    3. The master was in such poor condition, they chose to not include it.

I’m leaning towards 3, since the Vol. 3 reissue’s MST Wraps for The Unearthly have a pretty gnarly tape hit towards their end.

Then again, it could be 2, and that may be the same reason we didn’t get Space Travelers Hour Wraps (which are still on YouTube, btw).

Still, don’t let this distract you from picking up Vol. 37. Under a minute of missing Wraps doesn’t take away from the greatness of the set.

I attempted Invasion Of The Neptune Men late last night. Wow, it’s like they’re riffing a blank wall. Forgotten how void this episode was. Fell asleep about 45 minutes in, then woke up at the hour mark feeling physically ill. Which went away when I turned the movie off.
Yep, that’s definitely more of a morning episode!

Shout! has verified the missing segment from the MST Hour Wraps on Vol. 37 was a mistake. At least the master hasn’t been destroyed!

If I recall correctly, the Rhino release of Overdrawn at the Memory Bank did not include the episode ending stinger. Will Shout! restore this for their Volume IV release?
