Weekend Discussion Thread: A Four-Hour Layover in Chicago/Cleveland

Alert regular Timmy suggests:

Now that the Cubs are in the World Series (first time since 1945), what would you do if you had a four-hour layover in Chicago (from episode 419- REBEL SET). Me, I would try to catch a Blackhawks hockey game and maybe get some pizza at Rosati’s Pizza (you midwesterners/Chicago area fans would know what i am talking about).

As I noted in the episode guide: If it’s a plane layover, it would take you two hours to get into town from O’Hare and two to get back, so…

Me, I think I’d take the architecture boat tour of the Chicago River and note how the structures of so many of the buildings tend to draw my eyes upward … oh, okay, I’d go Navy Pier and get hammered.

You?

Update: To be fair, if anybody wants to describe their four-hour layover in Cleveland, go right ahead.

(Keep sending WDT ideas!)

Then I’d head over to Berghoff’s on W. Adams for lunch, supper, whatever, and pig out on the fresh baked rye bread dumped in the middle of the table waiting for my weisswurst and kraut.

The Berghoff closed back in like 2009, only to be re-opened about 10 months later, but the food just isn’t the same anymore. Myself, I’d spend a few hours at Untitled Supper Club on Kinzie, which has an awesome throwback speakeasy vibe, and the biggest whiskey selection in (probably) the whole country. That’s Chicago, baby.

Nonsense. Do some research. According to the FBI’s “Uniform Crime Report”, Chicago comes in at #24 on that list. Current leader is St. Louis. (source: http://fox6now.com/2016/11/02/americas-25-murder-capitals-milwaukee-has-10th-highest-murder-rate-of-any-american-city/ )

Does murder rate mean number of murder victims as a percentage of the population, or the absolute number of victims?

I stopped over twice in 1999. Waiting for a delayed connectioon to Kansas City I went to the bar and watched baseball for probably the first time. Heading back from Oklahoma City I popped into Chicago and had enough time to visit a CD shop before back to the airport and home to the UK.
