MST3K: The (Nearly) Definitive KTMA Segment Collection

Among the many well-documented epochs in Earth’s history, little has been studied of the year known only as “The KTMA Era.” During this time in 1988, Joel and the bots partook in a pre-season of sorts in which their orbital antics were broadcast only to the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area. Recently, archaeologists have worked around the clock to recover documents from The KTMA Era hoping to learn more about human culture before the widespread availability of cheesy movie riffing.

Though some footage from this primordial age was inevitably lost (or possibly still await discovery locked in some ancient, underground tomb), scientists have painstakingly reassembled every existing KTMA host segment and used advanced technological techniques to transfer them all to the disc you hold in your hand. Thanks to the miracle of science, we present The (Nearly) Definitive KTMA Segment Collection.

Ordered as soon as notice was posted. I will always jump for any chance to see any KTMA upgrades or, better yet, any new KTMA content. I’m OK with the episode selection mainly because we’re getting down to only a few left. I prefer that they are spread out over the series more, but that’s only for an individual set. Since I’m buying them all it really doesn’t matter in the long run. Thanks Shout! Keep up the great work.

*pushes up glasses* Actually, Volume V was the first all-Mike set. But this might be the first Shout! all-Mike set.

If we’re talking Warner’s “New Fake Rhino who never watched CC” phase, I’ll see your V and raise you IV? (Overdrawn, Mutiny, Gold Boots, Hamlet)

But yes, think this’s Shout’s first, and they’ve got no one to blame but themselves. ;)

Am I mistaken or didn’t Shout already release a lot of the KTMA host sessions on Volume XV?

Some were released but only some select host segments that were included in the original MST3K scrap tape (and I think they were edited).

So this is my first box set I’m preordering, and the first time since… the Rhino dvds, I think, that I’ve actually bought the dvds.

So I guess with the recent news that we can assume that the bonus disc will include all the host segments except for K03, which still does have some clips floating around.

Not if they want the insight of true aggressor in the current situation, ’cause it isn’t Russia.

I wish Shout Factory would ship to the UK. Sigh…
I can buy the regular version on Amazon, but not the extra stuff. Ever.

Shout just e-mailed and said the KTMA disc is, at least, delayed. They say you can contact them to cancel the order if you want.

But it is being replaced with a reissue of the Play MSTie For Me DVD, for those of us who missed out. Here’s hoping the KTMA disc eventually happens.

  22. MikeK says:

I think it would be nuts to cancel a pre-order just because Shout Factory can’t make the KTMA DVD. I have no idea what resources they have to find better quality versions of the KTMA stuff, but how bad could it have been if Shout planned the DVD in the first place? Speaking for myself, I wouldn’t have a big stink if the video quality wasn’t really good. I guess Shout thought enough people would, so that’s why it’s not being produced.

  23. Some Old Nobody says:

I received the same email from Shout, re the KTMA disk being scrapped (for now) and replaced by the “Play MSTie For Me” disk. What I found interesting about the email was how they described the latter i.e. “a bonus DVD that was planned for later in 2017“. That tells me that we can expect bonus disks with the XXXIX and XXXX releases coming later this year. I would imagine that the eventual KTMA Disk will come with XXXX, the fall release.

I wont cancel because I collect the sets for the episodes first and foremost. I do think we will get 1-2 more Volumes, but not as often as theyve been coming. I dont think we will see KTMA episodes from the Volumes but you never know

I was so looking forward to having most (if not all) of the KTMA host segments, particularly on a single disc.

As I already own the “Play MSTie For Me” DVD from the Brains, I will likely cancel my order and wait for a price break. Unless my disc no longer plays.

Why can’t they contact the owners of the original or second generation recordings? Perhaps some of them would be an improvement over what has been stored and they would reconsider their release.

As long as they were as good as the Turkey Day host segments released awhile back, I would find them acceptable. Some of those were only so-so, but I was glad to have them again.
