Now Available from RiffTrax

RiffTrax is continuing to release “three riffer” commentary tracks for movies that were previously released by Legend Films with solo commentaries by Mike. This one is “Carnival of Souls.” As with the others, if you previously bought the Legend DVD, all you need is to download the commentary and you’re all set.
If you didn’t buy the DVD, you can also download it as a video-on-demand file that includes the movie and the riffing.

Download it here. Free sample here.

We’ve been told that all these riffs have been rewritten to varying degrees from the initial solo riff. The early solo riffs — such as this one — were not so much riffs as more typical DVD commentaries with a little riffing thrown in, and have been extensively re-written.

Coming next: ““Swing Parade” on March 10.

Also, the Wired Blog discusses the spate of Legend re-do’s, including some comments from Bill.

I can’t speak to this actual riff, but I really love the Plan 9 from Outer Space riff trax update with all 3 if the guys on it. Compared to the original with just Mike, there’s not a whole lot of overlap and Mike & Bill add a lot of fun to it. Eventually I will get all of the Legend updates.

I’m wondering what these guys are going next once they are done with these re-dos. It almost seems like they are buying time while they figure out what films to do next.

  3. Don’t know if you noticed or not, but Rifftrax is having a sale at the moment too. 10% off orders over $10 and 20% off orders over $20.

It’s too bad that sale sequence doesn’t keep going. I would buy $300 worth of Rifftrax and make an easy $600.

“It seems that the (RiffTrax download of) Plan Nine From Outer Space we did together was a big success,” Corbett said. “So Legend Films wanted to transform some of their other titles. Most of these originals were done in a very different style by Mike, before RiffTrax became what it is today. More conversational, with trivia, information about the actors, etc. They were sort of like goofy versions of actual DVD commentaries, as opposed to riffing the movie.”

Okay, I thought this was a silly thing to do, and lazy, but the way Bill explains it makes sense. Mike’s commentaries weren’t really riffs in the general sense.

I don’t mean to be a prude, but I don’t like where this thread is headed.

Interesting. Seems like we’ve missed a wonderful comment from a man named FakeConnor.

This is why we can’t have nice things.

    @ #10

You probably also (and luckily) missed about a dozen comments from a sad, pathetic, lonely little man named FakeSampo.

    …Buh.

    Anyways…I remember watching Carnival of Souls on Halloween during tech theatre class (even though I had my copy of the MST: The Movie on me since I was going to over to a friend’s house later)…I ended up riffing on it before falling asleep and being prodded awake during some car driving scene. Shows how much my interest was held. >_>;

 I was wondering, how come Rifftrax says,Mystery Science Theater 3000 Meets..when it’s not MST3K at all??? Why don’t they state-like CT-“by the writers and performers of MST3K”??? Wouldn’t that make more sense??? Just asking.

  16. Ukridge says:

“Not Mst3k at all?” Well….let’s see. They riff on movies like MST did……and they have three performers who worked on MST…..I wouldn’t exactly say they bear no resemblance whatsoever, would you? Now if they said ‘CSI meets Carnival of Souls or ‘Law and Order meets Carnival of Souls, then you would have a point. Rifftrax is definitely not CSI or Law and Order at all.

Maybe they should bill themselves as “The Artists Formerly Known as MST3K” meets…..
They could even invent a symbol for their new persona.
