Weekend Discussion Thread: MSTed Movies That Would Make Good Saturday Morning Cartoons

Alert regular Timmy suggests:

I was thinking, what MSTed movie would make a good Saturday morning cartoon? I think that the Starfighters (on the lines of the old Beetle Bailey cartoon show from the 1960s*) and Mighty Jack (on the lines of any anime show). So what is yours, then?
* Look it up.

Well, I’d go with “Moon Zero Two” since it already has a cartoon theme song.

What’s your pick?

    Johnny and The Longbow Team:
    Animated Johnny Longbow, Bud, Janet, and Kathy solve mysteries throughout the Southwest with Ty the Komodo Dragon serving as the team’s wacky animal sidekick. Each adventure would start with the team investigating the appearance of a creature from a Native American legend, with Johnny telling the legend, and the creature being unmasked in each film as a nefarious villain.

    And the unmasking would be met with near-total indifference, yet the perpetrator would go on and on about how he never expected such a huge reaction.

    Sitting Duck: So would Mr. Big be a recurring nemesis?

    Well sort of. You wouldn’t know it was Mr. Big until the final segment when Peaches rips off the elaborate mask and costume he is wearing. Everyone will be shocked and surprised to find out that it was Mr. Big all this time trying to scare away the lady wrasslers from discovering his latest criminal enterprise. Amidst all the stunned faces and dropped jaws Joe will chime in with a wacky comment and everyone will laugh hysterically. Every episode the same formula.

    I see unmasking the villain is a recurring theme. My god what has Scooby Doo done to our comedic senses?

    (All I’ll ask!) I’ve seen other people answer this elsewhere: Did you enjoy it?

    A Sid-And-Marti Kroft version of Girl In Gold Boots and Their Super-Friends, where Critter and Michele help the Super Friends fight the Legion of Super-Villans with their mind-numbing guitar playing and spasmodic dancing.

    I once composed an entire season pitch for “The Adventures of The Incredible Melting Man,” re-imagining the movie as a crappy Filmation SatAM toon that ripped off “Captain Scarlet.” Instead of a cannibalistic serial killer, Astronaut Steve West would use the powers inflicted upon him by the alien Meltonians to combat their schemes for invading and/or melting Earth. He would be aided by Dr. Ted Nelson and his family (including Harold and Helen), General Perry, and Nurse.

    (By “season pitch” I mean I came up with some fifteen titles that were pop references with the word “melt” forced into them. There was also a terrible theme song, the lyrics of which I’m too ashamed to recite.)

    What part did the Turkey Leg play in your re-imagining? Hopefully a much more visible role.
