Some Housekeeping Matters/Site News

And now some housekeeping matters, as we enter the new era of MST3K:

To begin with, we at Satellite News, all of us proud backers, are just LOVING season 11. Our congratulations to Joel, first and foremost, to the tremendous cast and crew and all 48,000-plus backers. Give yourselves a round of applause!

Second, YES, we know that our FAQ, show history and other sections are now out of date. We are working to update them, but, as we have noted before, we both have full-time jobs. We will get to it. Please be patient. (By the way, Steve “Daddy-O” Finley is also at work on an update of Daddy-O’s Drive-In Dirt but, again, it’s going to take some time.)

Third, because of renewed interest in the show, there will come a day, shortly, when you are going to be asked, if you wish to partake of our comment threads, to register with the site. Sorry, but with the influx of people, this is going to be necessary.

Fourth, episode guide Thursdays will continue as normal, with two exceptions. Next Thursday we will look at “Assignment: Venezuela” and then, for the following two weeks, we will take a short break and tackle the two KTMA episodes, (K01 and K02) that were posted as kickstarter bonuses. After that, we will begin season eight. When we finally get to season 11’s proper place in order (some time next March?), we will do them again there, more formally.

Fifth, discussion of each season 11 episode, in numerical order, will begin next Saturday as weekend discussion threads. These will be proto-episode guide entries and you get to help construct them!

That is all. Enjoy this wonderful moment in the history of the show.

Well. Okay then! But let that be a lesson to you about what you said in 1999 when you wished there were no further seasons of Mystery Science Theater 3000!

Look at all the trouble that occurred when it stopped at ten.

So be careful what you wish for, EricJ!

And THANK YOU, and Brian, for keeping the MSTie flag waving high and proud lo these many years.

Long time lurker, first time poster, and what better time to start than now?

Thank you guys for all of the hard work you’ve put into this site for us MSTies!

Now to get a Netflix account, since, ya know, it’s almost the 2020s, and all of the kids have one. Not to mention the return of that show with the bad movies and the robots.

  6. Guys, take your time with the updates. I’m not going anywhere. As for this occasion? All I can say is that I’ve never been more exited about a tv show in my life. It may sound corny but seeing those silhouettes again almost made me tear up. I’m so thrilled to see this come to fruition. And as always, thanks to Sampo, Ehrhardt, and all involved for keeping this site going. I’ve been coming here for years and I’ll be here for the foreseeable future.

Like Syssiphus you guys have a never ending task, but your boulder never slides back downhill (it just gets bigger). Thanks for all the hard work on top of living actual lives. I don’t know how you do it.

Thanks for the information. By my count, if the episode guide Thursdays continue the way you describe them, we’ll reach episode 1013 on April 12, 2018. Wow.

I’ll absolutely keep reading, and will probably register, though I’ve only posted on here a few times. Season 11 is, in my mind, absolutely worthy of the MST3K name.

Keep up the great work. As Jay said, I don’t know how people who run sites like this (in any fandom) do so on top of maintaining real lives.

The volume that the ‘mads’ who run this site care about the show is so monstrous that it is unguessable by TURKEY VOLUME GUESSING MAN! and despite being monstrous, Sodium has no effects upon it!

    Thanks for your work.

From this long-time visitor, approximately once-a-month poster, and rare but occasional contributor, thank you guys so much for keeping this site going! I have to imagine your wives/friends/families/etc. get a little exasperated with you on how much time you spend on this, but to all of us fans, your efforts are very much appreciated. (I hope you have lives outside of this too – church, music, outdoor hobbies, golf, something.) I’ll be happy to register when the time comes.

I have…no idea what that means (especially since I LIKE the new show, but had an explanation of how it finally fixed right everything that S7-10 did wrong, and how this was “the S7 we should have gotten long ago, if Joel hadn’t been so distracted by the Bad Breakup”, silenced by the Powers that be)–

Yes, my joke wouldn’t make sense unless filtered through the short “A Case of Spring Fever,” that featured “Coily.”

The short appeared in episode 1012 – Squirm.

I think it’s a mistake to exclusively use weekend threads for the next 3 months or so
on the new shows. I don’t use Netflix, I just watch Mst3000s if on cable tv or dvds,
so I guess I’ll be excluded from the chats until the Fall.

I’ve seen posts on various internet forums saying netflix offers some sort of free viewing period??? Can anyone confirm?

If true, I guess that would make it possible for people to watch all the Season 11 episodes for free!

  38. Mike "ex-genius" Kelley says:

I suspect you may be being sarcastic but just in case — yes, NetFlix not only offers a free month of service, they are actively promoting it this weekend due to The Return. Just go log in and take advantage of it (you can watch all the episodes during that month).

The other nice thing about NF is you can always pause your subscription at any time and resume at any time — so if you don’t happen to get them all watched no problem, just another $10 (or whatever version of sub you choose — I think mine is $15 per month) and you have one more month. Or take a break during the summer (we often do this). Or… whatever.

Uh, you DO know that you can get Netflix on Playstation, X-Box, Roku, AppleTV, or any Smart TV in the last seven years, sit in a more comfy living-room chair and not worry about your problem keyboard, do you?
Of course, there’s not as much else good on Netflix as there was in ’10, and can’t help you with the renewal appeals, but…

What universe do you live in?

You can sign up for Netflix or Blockbuster (when they were around) or ANYTHING and NOT get repeated emails or whatever asking you to reup. When I quit Netflix (after being a member for nearly 10 years) they never once sent me ONE SINGLE DAMN THING asking me to rejoin (which I finally did after we moved). You are completely paranoid but that’s okay — the rest of us get the goodness that you are too wimpy to receive.

If I can cross the hateful Digital Divide and sign up for Netflix (on my PS4) for the very first time in my life, if even I can do such a thing, I think just about anybody can. Well, assuming you own a TV or computer or something. Why someone would want to watch a movie on a computer, though, that’s beyond me… or worse, on a smart phone…

You don’t have to be angrily Luddite about Digital and Netflix to be a Physical supporter–Just keep the sense of perspective that crazy baby-and-bathwater studios don’t have, namely that one is for rental, one is for travel and one is for the permanent shelf, etc.

Nobody watches cable anymore, so subscription Netflix/Hulu has taken the place of weeknight channel-clicking, and I used to say “I’d never watch my free disk-code Ultraviolet movies unless I was stranded at an airport with my Wifi!”, upon which I was….stranded at an airport for nine hours with my iPad while coming home from vacation during last Feb.’s big Nor’easter. But if I buy a disk (like, ahem, certain Japanese MST3K movies whose rights might disappear any minute), I stay true to my disks.
Studios don’t actually use any of this themselves, so they don’t know why the rest of us do, and think One Has to Replace The Other (isn’t that silly?), because they’re afraid another MP3 or E-books will come along. The rest of us are adults, and we don’t use a hammer to fix a pipe, we don’t use a wrench to saw wood, and we don’t use YouTube to rent VOD movies.

Now, if those same crazy studios would stop starving the Netflix services, and let us actually watch something on it, rather than worry it’s going to “replace” VOD…

Not sure why that would be the case but perhaps back then his hosts were charging by visitor? In any case, doesn’t matter if 10 or 10 million folks come to a site (my own used to have a million each week, and now is down to around that 10 — made no difference either way).
