Welcome to Satellite News: The Next 20 Years!

May 5th, 2017, marks our twentieth anniversary of bringing you Mystery Science Theater 3000 information. And with a new season of the show being carried on Netflix, we thought it was time to freshen things up around here a bit. This is the result.

This refreshed look is a work in progress and will evolve as time goes on. So take a look around, kick the tires, and let us know what you think. Hopefully, it retains the feel of the old layout while giving it a slightly more modern, sleeker appearance, just as the show has done on Netflix.

Oh, and we mentioned a few weeks ago that we would soon be implementing a registration feature on the site. That feature will be activated this weekend, so consider yourself warned.

Right now, on my end, the banner at the top doesn’t fit. The ends are somewhere beyond the browser window. Looks like it says, “ATELLITE NEV”

Also, are you gonna upgrade all the pages this time? Most of the site still has a significantly older look.

Sorry about that. It was a slight settings error that I’ve corrected.

Sooner or later. But as the title of this post suggests, I’ve given myself the next 20 years to do so. Not that it should take me that long…

    Probably depends on your browser–
I’m seeing the nice whole banner (the spaghetti planet is over the S), but any plans to make the Legacy Pages-link sidebar more modern? A way to choose the Episode Guide by specific season page?

There’s probably a way, like under some kinda “community” menu, to still link to the forrestcrow forum.

Whoever he is, he looks much kinder and gentler than the creepy stalker/serial killer vibe given off by the guy in yellow on the right.

The new logo is like one of those “three generations” family portraits. I like family portraits. It makes me wonder how many more jumpsuits will be on there in twenty more years.

So far, so good! Like the new banner a lot, although Jonah does have an unclean vibe about him in that picture. (What’s going through his mind in this picture? Never mind, I don’t wanna know . . . ) What you need to add now is some chicken, corn, green peppers, chili . . . (sigh) onions . . .

That out of the way, it looks good. Subtle and clean. Doesn’t feel so crowded on the sides anymore. And love the banner (perhaps expanded later for the Mads Lineage?)

Happy Anniversary…20 years ago, I didn’t have a computer yet. I had WEB TV (pause for laughter…), which was very clunky. I can remember trying to go on Joel’s old website, which was laid out like “Uncle Milton’s Ant Farm”, but WEB TV couldn’t navigate through it (no Flashplayer, or something), so I never found out what happened with his movie “Statical Planets.” ; The new banner is great…but Mike appears slightly higher up than Joel, so expect a certain someone to protest. Thanks for being the go-to site for all things Riffed.

Thanks for keeping this place going for 20 years. You’ve been doing good work, especially with keeping the flame burning during the years when there was no new movie riff to be heard from any of the guys. Here’s to 20 more!

I’d love to see the Mads included in the banner as well.

Maybe it’s because I’m so used to it but I miss the sides being crowded. It feels uneven without it. Otherwise, I’m on board with the changes.

Am I the only one who sees the image of Mike as creepy? His teeth are either discolored greatly, or he’s wearing a grill, or *something* but it looks decidedly weird compared to Joel and Jonah.

Well…it is less creepy than those early RiffTrax covers where MK&B pasted their heads on the Twilight characters–

    (thinks)

    Nope, definitely less creepy.

Congratulations to Sampo and Erhardt on 20 wonderful years of Satellite News!

I’ve been reading (and lurking on) this site since it went live all those years ago.

I just started posting here last year, although Sampo may remember me under a different screenname from our Prodigy days on the MST3K board.

I don’t know what the new registration feature entails, but if I’m unable to post here, I have had a good time posting and chatting with most of you.

I wish you most of you well. (Eric J. should seek professional help.)

I look forward to reading Satellite News for many years to come. :-)
