Wait……….it’s actually still possible to avoid ALL (or some, or most) of the add-on “service fees” by purchasing tickets at a theater’s box office ???

I thought most (if not all) box offices long ago learned there was absolutely nothing stopping them from tacking on the same (or similar) ticket “fees”, even if somebody goes through the hassle of actually schlepping down to physically purchase them there.

Please………I would LOVE to hear from anyone, and/or everyone who knows if “service fees” are still tacked on to tickets actually bought at a theater’s box office. And if they do, are they the exact same “fees” that are charged when those tickets are purchased online, or are they at least partly (or mostly) avoided when buying them at the ‘source’ ?

OR, is it something that depends on the particular box office, and that the tacking on of “service fees” varies from venue to venue across the country ?

    Anyone ???

(notes the irony of SaveFerris doing an “Anyone? Bueller?” joke)

Sometimes, as with our local old historic theaters, a “Restoration Fund” can be tacked on, which, being private theaters, the city and jerk landlords (I mentioned Northampton MA, right?) won’t pay for.
At least that’s going to some actual source, while the “Service fee” often simply goes to the Ticketmaster distributor or mailing costs, even if they’re picked up at the Box Office, or reserved online for Will-call.
Here, the local concert spots are all owned by the same management, that tried to save money selling all in-town pre-reserved concert tickets through the local independent ticket-agency, so there’s no getting around that.

  2. Buster: Mpls $99.00 was the cheapest BEFORE any fees
I thought things were more expensive in SF?

Odd. Tickets were listed as $39.50 to $49.50 each. I got mine for $39.50 each. (Also hoofed it over to the theater box office and saved myself the fees. Yay for working downtown!)

After tickets are bought, are they mailed to you?

IIRC I was able to choose that for Yet Another Additional Fee if I wanted. Will Call was also a separate fee. Only email was a free delivery option.

As for the seating, the Warfield is 2300 seats, although I don’t know if they were all actually available this way (like how when you buy theater tickets, some seats may be set aside for subscribers etc.). The size of the local population is also a factor – the Bay Area is 7+ million.

At first, I thought the closest they’d get to me would be Washington, D.C., and I’d have to give it a miss. Even an MST3K Live Tour wouldn’t be worth inching up I-95 to Springfield and catching a train on the decaying Metro system (to say nothing of the trip back at some ungodly hour). Then near the bottom, I see that they make a stop in Richmond, which is both closer and has more reasonable traffic. Already got myself orchestra level seats.

I was thinking the same thing. I live in Chesapeake, so when I first saw the list I thought I’d have to go up to DC. But instead I’ve only got to drive 2 hours to Richmond.

Not irony. You calling it irony? That is irony.

I’m not sure where else to post this, so I’m posting it here. I just saw this news item about a kid who’s school report on robots featured Crow:

  8. TOUR SUGGESTION

I think it would be great if the tour included of introducing the regional horror show hosts of the past like Zacherly, Svenghouli etc. as guests. In my opinion they were Proto MST3K and deserve to be recoginized for their contribution to this particular venue.
