  4. I really don’t get the point of them re-doing MST3K episodes. There are so many movies to riff. And this was a great MST3k episode.

I guess they figure it’s more money rehashing stuff?

Don’t like the redoing of MST episodes. Never as funny, and not worth spending the money on them since I already have the MST3K version.

I too am torn by them CONSTANTLY re-booting previously done titles….

Then again, it IS Joe Don……AW CRAP!!! Going ahead on over to Rifftrax, to ONCE AGAIN spend money on something I’ve already got……….

  7. The uncut version of this has some horrible content including a rape scene, I hope they cut it. Sort of a weird choice to re-do, since it’s the same riffers, but I’ll check it out. The re-do of Magic Sword is pretty good and the Mary Jo/Bridget Angels Revenge was different enough to be worth a watch.

But Final Justice, man, I can’t believe they would want to watch it again. I guess it really has been a long time since MST3K.

I guess these retreads must be selling or they wouldn’t keep doing it. I wish they’d stick to previously unriffed movies as well.

Yeah. I mean I don’t begrudge them paying their bills, but I wish they’d only do new territory, since there’s so much of it.

    Rating is PG-13.

But yeah, 1999 was only yesterday.

Speaking of Rifftrax, there are ~16 episodes available for streaming on Amazon Prime if you have that service. The selection changes maybe every other month or so? The aforementioned Magic Sword is one of them, as well as the live Manos.

There are so many other JDB films they could’ve picked. I don’t see the point of redoing this one.

  12. Re-doing previously MST’ed movies doesn’t totally bother me, I just wish they’d tackle a film from the KTMA era or Season 1. *THOSE* are the ones that need to be re-done.

Okay, wait a minute…….I just happened to notice that the actual running time of the ‘new’ Rifftrax version of “Final Justice” is slightly over 1 hour 17 minutes……but IMDb lists the full running time of the original feature as 1 hour 30 minutes.

While I can understand them excising a “brutal” rape scene that others have mentioned is (apparently) in the original (though to be completely honest, (and not that I’m ‘into’ watching rape scenes) I’d prefer they not edit ANY films that they do), does anybody know if they’ve actually removed (nearly) 13 full minutes from the original? Or is it possible that IMDb just happens to have it wrong?

Brandon: Rifftrax Presents did Hangar 18 from KTMA. Matthew Elliot did a much better job than K-series MST3K did, as you would expect. I found it watchable, but not a must-see classic. I know there are people who won’t watch a riff without one of the Misties on board. I often like Elliot (and Potter), but this particular one went a little heavy on the penis jokes.

It might have been interesting for RT to do Cosmic Princess in honor of Martin Landau.

I’m just speculating, but I’d wager Rifftrax has the same ‘edited for TV’ version MST3k used, with no sexual assault, ‘son-of-a-somethings’ and a bullet-riddled Sheriff Greydon Clark sliding down a wall twice.

Really ??? If true, that’s odd……..since there’s no longer any cable/broadcast restrictions of any kind on what they’re doing now.

Obviously they have the rights to legally distribute the film, so what, exactly, would now prevent them from riffing the ‘full’ version, rather than just going back to the same edited version (if anybody here actually knows) ???

I’d hate to think it’s something as simple as, “it’s just ‘quicker’, and easier (cheaper???) to do the shorter version from last time……”

In the movie Patton a reporter asks the general if it is true that he carried pearl handled pistols into battle. The response was, “No, mine are ivory handled. Only a New Orleans pimp would carry pearl handled pistols.” I wonder if the prop master for this film had seen Patton.

    For those who’ve watched it:

Does this version include the scene where Joe Don mimes “baby oil” for a non-English-speaking Maltese shopkeeper?

As with the majority of RT selections–and most of the SciFi episodes–I’m guessing the only version they had “legal rights to distribute” was the public-domain version that was last seen floating around the TV-edited distribution market. Short version, they riff what they can GET.
Did you think they went out and sought this one after weeks of scouring over Joe Don Baker’s filmography to find the most embarrassing?

My attitude is, if they think there’s more meat on the bone, I’ll give it a shot.

And frankly, I laughed like a loon watching this, so who cares if they did it before almost 20 years ago?

I’m guessing a whole package of Greydon Clark films became available, since they’ve done Uninvited, Angels Revenge (MJ & B), and Final Sacrifice recently. I’ve enjoyed them all.

One thing about re-riffing an episode 20 years later is that the pop references are more current and recognizable to the younger set. Me, I’m old so I like the ’90s riffing, but I’m happy there are both.

  25. MonkeyPretzel says:

The RiffTrax version has the profanity and the nudity left in, but does cut the rape scene, so it’s not the edited-for-TV version; I assume (I know I shouldn’t) that it’s RiffTrax’s own edit.

Also, for those concerned that RiffTrax does too many re-riffs of old MST3K: RiffTrax has, by my count, done over 600 unique titles not including live shows and the solo Mike Nelson Legend Films releases not under the RiffTrax title. They’ve done 10 MST3K re-riffs: Santa Claus Conquers the Martians (live), The Magic Sword, Manos (live), Santa Claus (live), Angel’s Revenge (Bridget and Mary Jo), Time Chasers (live), Final Justice, Mr. B Natural, What About Juvenile Delinquency?, and A case of Spring Fever. That’s less than *two percent*, actually closer to 1.5%, of their total output, In other words, it’s not a problem, and it by far isn’t keeping them from doing anything else.

Yeah, back in the 90’s, we didn’t have cult Internet sites to shout out to, and Shia LaBoeuf was still on the Disney Channel! Oh, and the MST3K episode couldn’t fan-reference itself!

The hexfield viewscreen isn’t a “running gag”. “It stinks” and “I thought you were Dale!”, those are running gags. The viewscreen is an element of the show. Might as well say the desk is a running gag.

And shouting “Brain Guy!”, “Mitchell!” or “Captain Santa!” in RT riffings is “self-referential”. Just so that’s all cleared up.

Yes, we know what “self-referential” means.

I was pointing out a mistake in the mst3k.wikia.

You were … doing what, exactly?

Clearing up Marjoe’s neurological-reflex “It’s EricJ, so it must be wrong! (15 likes)” post. Y’know, it would be nice if if we READ first, and angrily discredited later?
