A Couple of Things

HOT SPRINGS COUNTY, Ark.–Actor and comedian Jerry Van Dyke died Jan. 5 at his ranch here. He had been in declining health since being involved in a car accident two years earlier. He was 86.

The New York Times has the story.

MSTies will remember that he was mentioned as one of the guests partying in Deep 13 in episode 409- INDESTRUCTIBLE MAN.

Thanks to Timmy for the heads up.

Also, last year’s initial run-through of season 11 has been added to our episode guide. Next Thursday we will begin season 10 with our regular weekly episode guide updates and, 13-ish weeks from now, we will begin a more extensive write-through of season 11, in preparation for the arrival of season 12.

RIP Jerry Van Dyke. I actually liked My Mother The Car and Jerry’s 1928 Porter. Looking forward to the new Season 11 episode guides.

JVD also inspired one of my favorite riffs from Girls Town: “It’s either Jerry Van Dyke or a trained chimp!” R.I.P.

I love The Dick Van Dyke Show (then again, who doesn’t), but never cared for Jerry Van Dyke’s “Stacey Petrie” character, whenever he appeared on that show.

However, not too long ago, I got hooked on the 90’s tv series Coach, and acquired a whole new appreciation for him, based on his goofy “Luther” character that he played on that one…

Anybody happen to know if Dick Van Dyke was his only sibling ?

I’ve got several senior family members (71 & 81) who’ve been off the road for a bit. Both want to get back on. :( Horrifying. I’ll make sure they read what Jerry’s wife said.
