New Horizons Film Library Sold

Shout! Factory and China-based Ace Film HK Company Limited (ACE) have acquired the New Horizons Picture library, encompassing 270 Roger Corman films and an action sci-fi TV series from Roger and Julie Corman, the companies announced Thursday.

Hmmm…

Not sure this has any effect on MST titles, but…

Read about it here.

(Thanks to Brian for the heads up.)

I’d nominate Battle Beyond the Stars for S12. It’s got an immediately accessible ripoff plot, lots of goofily inventive aliens and vehicles, some juicy good-bad acting, plus the main character’s scrotum-shaped spaceship. Also, no naughty bits that would need to be edited out. Seems like a slam dunk to me.

Did anyone else for a moment think that Roger Corman had died when they saw his photo?

I would give a five dollar knockoff Rolex made in Shenhzhen to see the chinese version of IT CONQUERED THE WORLD with a literal translation back to English. “He learned too late that man is a feeling creature …” might become “He was a slow learner with much pain”. Who knows?

It’s generally known among BBTS fans that James Cameron, (yes that James Cameron) based the design of the ship on a woman’s chest. That the ship has a female voiced computer is a dead giveaway.
Ironically, NBC delayed airing the film for quite some time in the 80’s, as they attempted to cover up Sybil Danning’s huge tracts of land. ;)

Sorry, that one’s just too good. (No, seriously: Never riff the John Sayles Corman-scripts, savor them for their hip value instead. The same goes for Alligator and Piranha, and dare we even need mention The Howling.)

We’ll have to settle for James Horner’s BBTS score showing up in six OTHER Corman sci/fantasy films for S12, assuming they try to throw another Deathstalker onto us.

(raises hand) Sadly, it’s getting more and more expected–
Instead, he’s only been x-producing cheap self-consciously goofy made-for-cable Asylum-clones for Epix and SyFy (no, sorry, John Landis, he did not direct “Attack of the Fifty Foot Cheerleader”), which at this point is tantamount to actually being dead. :(

  10. My guess the TV show is Black Scorpion. Not that it has much relevance to MST3K, but the press release says a bunch of movie and a TV show, but doesn’t actually mention which TV show, I was curious.
