That’s just brilliant. Can every Turkey Day be new season premiere day?

Not a fan of the reboot, personally, but I do appreciate that they’re carrying on this tradition.

Probably not if they continue to have the short seasons.

Not sure about the article, but the email from Joel includes a neat picture of the SOL crew. And I can’t stop giggling at Johan’s Big Boy haircut. :)

“I don’t follow you my friend…no way.” – Made-for-TV Hippie, “San Francisco International”

If anything, the shortened seasons would actually help in perpetuating a traditional seasonsal schedule that could be released every Turkey Day.

I expected this, judging by the timing of the filming of Season 2 or 12 or whatever you want to call it, but I’m a little disappointed that this probably means no Shout Factory T-Day marathon. Harder to gather fans together to celebrate when there’s no centralized viewing accessible to all at the same time.

I’d be surprised if the Turkey Day marathon stream doesn’t happen.
    1. Some people don’t have Netflix, and even if they do, there’s no sense of communal viewing without a live stream.
    2. It’s a perfect commercial for the show. “New episodes on Netflix, and buy some box sets for the holidays!”
Do they really want to throw that tradition away?
Since the new episodes post on Thanksgiving, that most likely means midnight, so I’ll begin watching on Wednesday night!

Love it, like it, or deny it a new season of MST3K on Turkey Day in true new episode form is bcak y’all!! So nice and creamy smooth with 6 lumpy movies, and let’s not forget the over baked candied host segments! And before it all we get the moist savory flavor of the Live show as an appetizer. Always rewatch the old ones and maybe give the new ones a spin too….Goodnight.

I believe Netflix posts things at 3 am EST, 2 am CST.

The short “seasons” is probably the biggest improvement since S11, so they’ll probably make a big deal out of March or June ’19 for “Season” 13, or 12.5.

But anyway–There, Sampo, now you’ve got the release date, can we go back to Thursday episode discussions once they start airing? (Or will they be Weekend threads again?)
It’s been…well…kinda quiet without them on the weekdays lately. :(

Thank you, Desperate 00’s-Starved Mike Fan.
I would amend that to “Any Netflix MST3K is better than any MST3K we’ve gotten since 1996.”
(And yes, maybe Cinematic Titanic too, which could have done more live videos and picked better movies.)

Looks good! I figure after dinner, football, visiting with my family, WKRP, and a randomly selected classic experiment, I’ll finish up the day with the first Season 12 episode. (I’m a traditionalist, so I’ll stick to one show per week.)

Lovely Wife and me have a few “go to” episodes from Season 11- Time Travelers, Avalanche, Starcrash, Loves of Hercules, Wizards of the Lost Kingdom one and the two Doug McClure ones. It’s great to mix them in with the great 198 and the Movie to keep our rotation always fresh. Long story short- Any MST3K is better than no MST3K.

WKRP?? I’m on the other side of the ideological schism, that watches the Bob Newhart Thanksgiving episode.

(Along with one of a rotation of any of five three-hour kiddy movies that TV stations used to show every Thanksgiving, so the station employees could have the night off. Thanksgiving without Sound of Music or Willy Wonka is no holiday I grew up with.)

  19. I had no idea there was a Bob Newhart Thanksgiving episode. The WKRP is famous for the turkeys being dropped form a helicopter.

Good that Jonah is going for a more grownup haircut. He looked too young hipster compared to Mike and Joel. Now he fits in more. And Growler is back, can’t put my finger on it, but I just cannot hate him.
Also, though some are obviously behind the scenes shots, one of those scenes look like they are using different camera angles on the SOL. I hope so. The one angle is so claustrophobic. If that’s the correct word.

I watch the Bob Newhart episode every other year. The same with the B.C. Thanksgiving special. One thing I don’t watch is the Macy’s parade, simply because they show precious little of the actual parade. It’s mainly interviews with stars plugging away, and musical acts lip synching.

It’s where Bob, Mr. Carlin, Jerry and Howard end up spending Thanksgiving together. I won’t give anything more away, except that the dinner choice is…unusual.

I’m hoping that Season 2 of the reboot will be better. I don’t care much for Season 1 of regular MST3K, but season 2 was much better and hopefully the reboot follows that precedent.

I don’t think you can ever judge any TV series by its first season–there will always be something to tweak/iron out/discard, etc., no matter how clear the creators’ vision might have been. Now, for me, it’s always been about different versions of one and the same show: the episodes are good or mediocre regardless of the who’s in the cast, and the best parts of the reboot match up well with the best parts of Seasons 0-10. My wish list for Season 12 includes: giving Felicia Day and Patton Oswald more to do than just stand yelling directly in front of the camera; some how, some way giving the in-theater ‘bots distinctive personalities and (especially) voices, the way they were in the original series; if they have to have guest stars, tying their appearances in with what’s happening in the given episode; do more to blend in bits from the original series (Seasons 1-10); maybe giving the Skeleton Crew more to do than just be in the background (er, not too much, though); avoiding young-hipsterishness of all kinds whenever possible. Other than that, I really like Jonah and just love the fact that we’re getting 6 more cheesy movies to riff on! Boo-yeah! Can’t wait for the show in Portland on Oct. 9–my ticket has been in my trembling fingers for months now . . .

And that watching Jerry’s alma mater football game soon turns the Guys’ Thanksgiving classically blotto: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wrubGTIrlk4
Just say “Moo goo gai pan” to any fan of classic reruns, and watch what happens.

Although I might be progressive and watch the Cheers gang have Thanksgiving at Norm’s.

Okay, I must ask where you found the B.C. Thanksgiving special….YouTube?
Growing up, we used to have the joke about “Put the turkey in the oven after the Macy’s parade finishes the Broadway plugs, and baste it every time a network soap star appears on a float singing ‘Winter Wonderland'”, but now we just put the turkey in a slow-cooker and go streaming instead.

(And besides, I now can’t watch the Macy’s parade without hearing Robin Williams’ Genie: “Oh, and here come the peacocks now, aren’t they just lovely?”)

Hopefully, Joel’s live tour was trying to address the “Get these guys together in the same room!” complaints about S11, and will fix the riffing problems in S12 as much as scripted riffs fixed S2.
The short seasons already fixed the “Riffing fatigue” problem that plagued “Christmas” and “At the Earth’s Core”.

If you mean the CC S1, then someone should sure have given J. Elvis’ Servo some better riffs.
(Then again, there is comic value in “Oo, I’m impressed!“)

No, I found it on VHS a few years ago. I copied it onto DVD, too, just in case. I also got the Christmas special, too.

  32. Boy it is SO hard to disagree someone who loves the “Moo goo” episode of Bob Newhart (or, truly, any of the episodes). And who doesn’t like Rifftrax.

Wonder why I and EricJ can’t come to minds with the reboot, though? Is he just liking it because of Joel’s involvement? Because the writing stinks and the riffing.. eh. Not much better than RT in any way shape or form. I know Eric’s a Joel fanboy, though, and perhaps nothing he ever does can be bad (but the reboot proves that isn’t true).

However I will at least watch one of these new ones on Turkey Day — maybe the episodes will be a lot better when I’m in the same condition as Bob and the gang were (because I tend to enjoy a bit of the brew myself along with all that white meat). And I can always turn in to the classics later (when I wake up after passing out).
