First Spaceship on Venus –
A strange East German/Soviet production from the sixties, this movie features one of the cooler sci-fi spaceships on film – The Cosmostrator. It preceded the warp nacelles on the Enterprise by having three strut mounted nuclear engines in an almost art nouveau configuration.
Giant reflective masks that appear in the desert, accompanied by someone screaming “Aaaaahhhhhhh!!”.
Seriously, that thing was kinda cool. Though supposedly it was an ancient mask made by the people that used to live there.. and I didn’t know that they already had access to metal working and intense heat furnaces.. but whatevs.

Torgo’s Theme –
You have to admire the purity and simplicity of its construction. Four notes and a downbeat. Like an oriental water torture its endless repetition is an instrument of irritation that would make the Marquis de Sade jealous.
I’d go with the opening credits to Moon Zero Two. Between the cool pop song and the goofy animation, it’s like something from The Electric Company. Even Joel got up and danced to it.
The stop motion animation in The Black Scorpion is really quite good.

The astronaut accidentally left behind in First Spaceship on Venus. His scream of “DON’T LEAVE ME!!” as his ride lifted off chilled me as a kid when I saw it at the drive-in with my folks, and it still gets me today. And yeah, the Cosmostrator was VERY cool.
That said, the rest of the film sucked lime green donkey balls.
Leaving aside “Laserblast”, the stop-motion’s also surprisingly good in S12’s “The Day Time Ended”, even if it makes no…flaming…SENSE!!
(And okay, I can understand the two big creatures that look like they came from Star Wars’ Holo-chess, but I still can’t parse what Dobby the Elf was doing in the story.)
Even Jo&tB point out how detailed and articulated the creature-movement is, if we could actually SEE it in the night shots.
At least there was no giant, no monster, no thing called “Douglas” to be followed and Astronaut Frank Douglas, rescued, alive, well, and of normal size, some 8,000 miles away in a lifeboat.

I actually plan to write a series of short articles on DeviantArt pointing out what good things I found in every MST episode I’ve seen.
A few so far:
The costumes and makeup in “Magic Voyage of Sinbad” and “Sword and the Dragon”. I love that old Russian-fantasy stuff!
The Hercules movies. My family and I love Pepla films!
“Operation Double 007” has Ennio Morricone music and IT ROCKS!
“Overdrawn at the Memory Bank” Say what you will about that movie, Raul Julia does a scary good impression of Humphrey Bogart.
“Diabolik” and “Space Mutiny” John Philip Law is the ONLY person I’ve ever come across who can do a perfect “Mwa-haha” evil laugh! Snidely Whiplash would be proud.
“Kitten with a Whip” That film actually got me invested and they do a chekov’s gun scene with Richard Anderson’s character that I totally forgot so when he shows up at “T-Town”, I was like WHAT THE?! And Ann Margret is still a pretty cool actress despite that script.

At this festive time of year, let us be thankful for a gift that keeps on giving: this iron-clad bit of voice-over from one of the worst movies of all time that works in any and all contexts! A piece of bad script that doubles as its own riff!!
I am thankful for the integrity of the single remaining strap on Old Man Crenshaw’s bib overalls.
I’m very late but I love the Platters song in Girls Town. I have it in my music plaforms
