Updated: Media Mentions

Update: another die-hard MSTie reveals himself — this one a writer at Portland Monthly Magazine.

DVD Talk reviews the RiffTrax “Reefer Madness” DVD…is quoted in a story about Chicago club owner Chris Ritter…

Joel Hodgson is quoted in a story about Chicago club owner Chris Ritter…

And the Oddly Enough blog at Reuters puts to rest a completely false rumor that MST3K is returning.

Yep, the Reefer Madness Rifftrax DVD is good. It’s a legendary bad movie. I would say that it’s the non-sci-fi counterpart to Plan 9 From Outer Space. I’m glad we have these “three riffer” ediitons of these movies. I was watching Night of the Living Dead and it’s so much better than Mike’s solo commentary.

Ok. I’m not getting this Oddly Enough blog post. What exactly are they talking about? “I saw a screening of a new one where the guys just make fun of an aquarium.” What?! :???:

    Professor,

He’s just riffing on the Reuters photo he included on the page that shows the crowd in silhouette in front of the fish tank at Tokyo Sea Life Park.

And that’s why I leave the riffing to the professionals.

  5. I kinda got the impression that the “riffing” was more like a subtle way of saying he didn’t think the newer “incarnations” were funny.

Oh, no, he was talking about the photograph and something it reminded him of. The Reuters Oddly Enough blog does that a lot, putting up some amusing photograph and then building a little tale around it.
I particularly like the ones where he builds up stuff around, like, the soldiers outside a rocket base and portraying one telling the other, now, don’t look up the rocket nozzle while they’re launching. Juvenile but entertaining.
There’s also making fun of the dumb things fashion designers inflict on models for fashion shows, but anyone can do that.

  7. Thanks, Joseph. “Juvenile but entertaining.” I love it! May I borrow that as my new slogan on my blog? That’s exactly the mood I’m going for.
