RIP Lori Nelson

LOS ANGELES — Lori Nelson, the 1950s starlet who was kidnapped by an amphibious monster in “Revenge of the Creature” and portrayed Barbara Stanwyck’s daughter in Douglas Sirk’s “All I Desire,” died Aug. 24 at her home here. She was 87, and had been suffering from Alzheimer’s disease for several years.

MSTies will remember her as Helen Dobson in the movie in episode 801- REVENGE OF THE CREATURE, Janey Lowe in the movie in episode 112- UNTAMED YOUTH and Louise Maddison in THE DAY THE WORLD ENDED (which was riffed by fans in Sci-fi Channel’s “MST3K: The Home Game”).

The Hollywood Reporter has the story.

Thanks to Paul and Gordon for the respective headses ups.

I did not know of her affliction with Alzheimers, the thief that slowly steals your very essence as a human being. My heart is heavy. RIP

I thought her role in RotC was one of those that would have been easy to treat as a throwaway, but she gave it her all. Reading in the obituary posted above, “She initially did not want to make the movie but in the end was glad she did.” We’re glad she did, too. RIP

She played the likable, intelligent, level headed Woman. She’ll always be my favorite ichthyologist, and, side man (woman) on the guitar for Mamie. RIP

  4. I thought I’d posted this…anyway, for a last look at Ms. Nelson at least having a bit o’ fun, and in a real part, find a copy of The Naked Monster. Apparently having gone on from ROTC to get her doctorate, she appears as DOCTOR Helen Dobson.
If you’ve never encountered The Naked Monster, check it out on imdb. Go down the cast list, and gasp in wonder.
