I actually own one of those cymbal crashing pseudo-monkeys. He actually works. No fires. No death except for the occasional scorpion that crawls into the house and that’s on me. Smoosh, crunch-crunch. What the monkey mostly does is catch dust.

one of my favorites, even though it’s always kind of annoying when RT just rehashes movies they’ve done before even using the same riffers

  4. This, Girl in Lover’s Lane, and Overdrawn etc. are the only three MST’s that we’ve put on the No Fly list. No. Just…no.

The only writer listed on the RiffTrax version that’s the same as the MST3K version is Mike. So it’s going to be a riff that’s substantially different than the 21 year old version, even though it’s the same voices. Plus the RiffTrax “rehashes” usually have a lot of original movie that was edited out of the MST3K version restored. I always find it interesting to see what was cut.

The movie I’d like to see redone with missing scenes is Squirm [well, okay], as I got great enjoyment out of the director’s commentary that reference MST3K, and the scene where the hero and the sister were sharing a smoke [ahem]

Anyone take the plunge, and if so, how do the new riffs compare to the old ones?

I’ve bought three “previously featured on MST” VODs, those being Space Mutiny, Time Chasers and Final Justice- all three had enough funny new jokes that I didn’t feel like I wasted my money.

I wish they had just done “The Devil’s Gift” instead.

Recently I’ve been working my way through the old ITV anthology series Hammer House of Horror. With its frequent downbeat endings, the original cut of The Devil’s Gift would be perfect fit. Flip all the shots with vehicles, dub everyone with British accents, and digitally alter the Return of the Jedi shirt (HHoH originally aired in 1980) and you could pass it off as a lost episode.

I bought it yesterday. I can’t believe I didn’t notice this until now, but early in the film, some random kid is seen walking off-screen to the right of Ernest Borgnine. Who was that?!

Oddly, the RiffTrax version is MISSING a brief bit from the MST version: Madeline and Jonathan pulling into the garage and Jonathan speaking into his tape recorder. Not sure why that was missing, since the movie isn’t that long to begin with, but it’s something I noticed.

However, a scene that was NOT featured on the MST version is the introduction of Michael and David, who go to the carnival (leaving the dog at home), and afterwards we cut to Michael’s girlfriend coming upon the monkey, which is where the MST version picks up. Frankly, I can see why they excised that in the MST version; it added nothing to the story.

Sorry, DAVID’s girlfriend. For some reason I can’t edit my post.

I saw “Devil’s Gift” on Commander USA back in the 80s. Stretched out to feature length, it seemed longer than Berlin Alexanderplatz and half as comprehensible.
