Although there is an argument to be made for his point of view, he somewhat lost any real chance I’d agree with him with his criticism of the Rocketship X-M episode of MST3K. It has been and always will be my favorite episode of the show.

As a film buff I also have great respect for old movies and think they should all be properly preserved, even the cheap or “lame” ones should be seen as their director’s intended, but I’ve never felt that MST3K would somehow hinder or cause a loss of interest in that effort.

I agree. The points he was trying to make were erased by singling out Rocketship X-M.

You have to love a Glenn Erickson review!

MST3K’s Rocketship X-M = “Clever Wiseasses Pissing on the Efforts of Good Filmmakers.”

    Hmmm….

Then again, I’m no “real hipster,” just some “sophomore who never opened his books.” Another “victim of the comedy mill.”

What would it be like to have lunch with that guy? Or stand behind him in line at the grocery store?

I would imagine it would be a soft, yet unyielding breeze of cantankerous, following by a gentle waft of grumpy. Y’know, the kind of guy that complains if the framing is slightly off at the dollar movie theater.

All right, we get it, you’re not a fan, give it a rest.

    R. Hilton says:

I read Glen’s reviews pretty regularly – he is definitely a rabid “Monster Kid” who adores classic sci-fi. At least he admits that the show is funny, but I am completely befuddled by the assertion that he and fellow reviewer Paul Mavis make that Roger Corman’s “Little Shop of Horrors” is a brilliant black comedy that is funnier than anything the MST3K crew ever did. This is, in reality, the sort of wretched, bottom of the barrel dreck that we would expect to see the name “Coleman Francis” in front of. Mavis, in particular, made some pretty nasty politically based comments in his response to criticisms aimed at his review of Little Shop; QUOTE:My review isn’t devoted to securing a reputation for LSOH that hardly needs my help (almost 50 years and running, and they’re still cranking out public domain copies like there’s no tomorrow). It just points out the commentary isn’t as funny as the film. But if you disagree, that’s cool. It’s still a free country (at least until the next press conference).END QUOTE
