I liked roller skating when I was a kid. There was an old man in town who decided his path to a happy retirement was to buy a surplus Army hospital tent and put a wooden floor under it. Instant skating rink! You had to watch out for the joints in the floor that didn’t quite match, though. On a busy night the air was filled with sound of skate wheels going over the gaps and three quarter inch drop-offs. Thunka-thunka! Thunka-thunka!
