Wow, thanks for reminding me! When Fathom Events showed the remastered Original Series Star Trek episode “The Cage,” tickets sold out quickly as well. Thankfully they added a second night and I was able to get them- of course I had to drive from Long Island to the Bronx, which was a bit of an adventure!

So that’s two tickets for me, and on Long Island this time! w00t!

That’s good news for the rifftrax folks; Maybe if they eventually do another one it’ll be a date I can attend.

Glad to hear that this event is a success 9at least sales-wise, hopefully no technology glitches).

I can’t wait to see Plan 9 on the big screen. It’s definitely one of my favorite movies

    “Visits? That would indicate visitors.”

Off-topic, I just gota copy of “The Room”. I’ll watch it tonight, and get the Rifftrax for a second viewing next week. Good stuff.

    Mark: How was work today?
Johnny: Oh pretty good. We got a new client… at the bank. We make a lot of money.
    Mark: What client?
Johnny: I can not tell you, its confidential.
Mark: Oh come on. Why not?
Johnny: No I can’t. Anyway, how is your sex life?

  5. Got my tickets here in a smallish city in Texas a few days ago. It was $27 for two, but I hardly go to the movies anymore, and figured this was worth it (still shocked as hell our town is showing it). My wife is less than excited, even though she laughed when we started watching the Rifftraxed Plan 9 DVD a few weeks ago. Haven’t finished watching it, decided to wait for the live version–never seen the movie all the way through. We just watched Ed Wood again too. My wife likes MST3K in small doses, and I think we’ll have fun…a different experience than watching it at home. I hope it sells out here.

  6. I can certainly understand why a theater in NY would sell out — ditto any place near a college town.

But in some cities folks haven’t even *heard* of MST3K, let alone want to see something like this. Anyone remember “MST3K – The Movie”? Anyone know what the box office was for that?

I really really really hope they do that well in theaters near us because it would be nice to see this with other people in the audience. But I get the feeling my wife and I will be sitting alone.

I’m glad to hear that, and that I got my tickets. Hopefully it will be a big success, and Rifftrax and CT can do more shows like this.

I wonder if this will be shown in more theaters than The Movie was.

Durango55- I think you will love it. Rifftrax has been hot or miss with me, but that one was a huge hit. My wife (who HATES MST) was crying from laughing so hard.

@Cliff: Interesting question. The FAQ has theater counts for the first 11 of 19 weeks or so of release. In those 11 weeks it showed at 314 theaters tops. Assuming they kept all 23 prints that were out on week 11 moving for the next 8 weeks, the most theaters it could have shown at was 498. Since the theater counts for the 11 weeks we have figures for were not all new theaters each week, and there were probably a lot fewer than 23 prints by the end, it’s probably a lot less. They’ve got 435 theaters listed as showing this on the NCM site, so I’d guess the answer is yes. Of course, each of those theaters needs to sell one show, not a week or two’s worth.

Thank you for letting me know. I was going to go to that showing but now I’ll be buying my tickets in advance. Luckily there are a couple of shows in the NYC area.

Sonuva…..why the heck is this only at one theater in NYC?!?! The AMC on 42nd does Fathom events too! Damn, damn, damn!

  12. GersonK says:

@ForkLiftKiller – Well, that’s the only one in Manhattan, but you might be able to go to this one. Of course, afterward you’d have to . . . LEAVE THE BRONX.

  13. I was quite surprised to see that there will be a showing at both Cinemark theaters closest to my house in West Jordan, Utah. I got my ticket immediately after confirming that.

I just picked up tickets yesterday; a friend and I are seeing it at the theater in Roseville, MN.

I’m curious to see how many other people show up.

I was planning on going till I saw it was a thursday. I would have gone if it were a weekend day. It’s playing at a theater within 10 miles of me at the Pittsburgh Mills Mall, so it’s certainly do-able.

I work for a living and would rather spend my weeknights resting and sitting around regaining strength for the next day of work. Of course, I am 44 and probably would have gone if I was less ancient and still had the quick recovery time I did in my 20’s.
But I beg the question, why couldn’t they have done this on a Friday night?

I’ll tell you this, if they had a non-live rerun of it on Friday night, I’d go.
But really I’m more inclined to just buy the on-demand download of it in mpg2 once it’s available. That’s a given.

Actually it’s about 18 miles away. I’m pretty dumb with miles so I checked it on mapquest.

  17. GersonK says:

@Manny – the whole Fathom system is designed to get people into movie theaters on weekday nights when they’re usually pretty empty.

Well, I’m debating going to this, but I only wish again that it would show at a Southern New Jersey location. All the Jersey locations are central or north. Still, I might just go to the Philly theater (it turns out that it’s only 30 minutes away).

Thursday night is actually a perfect night for me as it is my day off during the week. Now I pretty much have no excuses…well, besides being lazy of course.

  19. Manny,

Thursday was more or less insisted upon by the Fathom Events people, because this is summer time (which means big blockbuster movie season) it would have been damn near impossible for us to compete.

Hopefully this is a success and we can continue doing these. Also, there is the possibility of an encore presentation. We’ll keep you posted.

There may be a second chance though. I found a theater near me, while not showing this live on the 20th is showing it on September 2nd.

Oh man. A theater in the most heavily populated city in the United States sold out? No WAY are any of the rest of us gonna get tickets.

Tickets for NYC are suddenly available again. I’m kinda bummed cuz I went by this and bought New Rochelle tickets. That place is ok but it can’t compare to seeing it in the city.
