I just saw this on the ‘net and knew you guys would be on it. He was only 57, very sad. He was also married to the same woman since ’75, quite an accomplishment given the industry he worked in.

My first memories of Patrick, a fellow Texan, are from new year’s eve 1989. It had been two years since Dirty Dancing had come out but seeing as how I was 10 then, I hadn’t seen it yet.

Now at the ripe old age of 12, my mom rented it for me and my best friend who was spending the night to ring in the new year. We were very excited about 1990 as we would both turn 13 that year and finally be teenagers. I can’t imagine a better way to begin those wonderful, crazy teen years than by watching Patrick and Jennifer strut their stuff. We’ll just forget that we also drooled over Vanilla Ice on MTV’s new year’s special. :???:

Nobody puts Baby in a corner!

Watching “Roadhouse” will have a whole new connotation, especially when the phrase “It’s my way or the highway” is spoken. May that Highway have angels that fly you fast to Heaven, Patrick!

Still shocking, even after his diagnosis. Reading this obit from Yahoo! News http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20090915/ap_en_ot/us_obit_swayze reminded me of how many good flicks he’s been in.

I’ll probably fire up a double feature of “Road House” and “Red Dawn” this weekend.

R.I.P., dude. The Road House is closed. We’ll still try to have a Patrick Swayze Christmas.

I always loved the Chippendales skit on SNL he did with Chris Farley. Damn shame that Hulu doesn’t have it.

From what I read and saw about him, he was a genuinely cool guy with a good sense of humor about himself (He even got a kick out out of “A Patrick Swayze Christmas” when it was shown to him.) His range was underrated as well; he was surprisingly convincing in both “Donnie Darko” and “To Wong Foo…”

Even though I knew that the odds were pretty much against him, I still kept hoping that he’d pull through. RIP, sir. You made your mark and you’ll be loved and remembered for years to come. Not a bad life, at the end of the day…

Patrick Swayze: A good actor who made some pretty bad career choices. But if he hadn’t, I wouldn’t be having an especially Swayze Christmas this year. RIP. Gonna have to dig out that Roadhouse Rifftrax this weekend.

    Wow, this is weird.

On Saturday at a party, some guy made a ‘dirty joke’ in regards to Swayze’s condition…and now 2 days later he died.

Reminds me of this summer, when my Uncle was saying how annoying Billy Mays sounded…and a days later he had died!

Of course, I never did see Road House, but I always recall ‘The Patrick Swayze Christmas.’ Glad to hear he got a kick out of it. RIP Pat.

This news is harder for me than it would have normally been as last weekend I finally broke down and bought the newest Roadhouse DVD. Watched it bare, with Kevin Smith commentary, and then with Rifftrax. Lot of Swayze on the brain, and then this…bummer.

ABC Family advertised last night that they’re showing the “Special Edition” version of ‘Dirty Dancing’ on Saturday. They’re either very fast, or very prescient…or (most likely) part of one heck of a coincidence.

Patrick showed more stuff than Chuck Norris and Mr. T combined by refusing to just tap out to one of the most lethal cancers possible. I will remember that more than any of his acting roles.

And Patrick, please know it was never anything personal, just all in good fun!

We will miss you, Patrick- there aren’t too many actors who can combine top-notch dancing skills with top-notch kicking butt skills, not to mention he is very handsome (my wife’s favorite hot guy).

Please, lets not for get Jim Carroll, writer, poet, and vocalist (notice I said vocalist- he was not a very good singer), from whom Best Brains stole the “Croooooow!” introduction in the theme song- for reference listen to his song “Crow” on the 1980 album “Catholic Boy” if you don’t believe me.

Thanks for the memories Patrick and Jim.

It was so sad to read this last night. The first thing I said to my wife was “No more Patrick Swayze Christmases”.
But of course like the spirit of Christmas, Swayze will always live on in our hearts.

“It’s my way or the highway!”

@ Stoneman #39: Very true. I was shaken up to read that Jim Carroll had died; he’s been a favorite of mine since I was about fourteen. I had completely forgotten his contribution to MST3K history, though. Thanks for reminding me.

So raise a glass and bow your head to two honorable individuals today. We shall not look upon their like again. (Of course, who knows why I’m lookin’ at their like.)

So sorry to see this happen. He’d been married to the same woman for a very long time and seemed to care about her (what a switch, huh?) And he seemed to be an all-around well-liked, decent sort of guy (another switch, in Hollywood or anywhere else.

In his memory – don’t smoke, don’t drink. Unfortunately, he did both quite heavily and that sort of thing is well known to lead to pancreatic damage and cancer.

But I will try to have a Patrick Swayze Christmas this year, and will try to remember him as he was in *Dirty Dancing* – IMHO, nobody on screen ever looked better than Johnny Castle.

  46. The Bolem says:

I’m surprised so little mention has been made of ‘Ghost’. I’ve probably seen it more than any other Swayze movie, and I think that might be the one that’ll be hardest to ever view the same way again now that he’s actually passed on.

I’m pretty sure that Chippendale’s skit is on the Best of Chris Farley SNL DVD, if that helps.

And he was so close to seeing one of his features get a remake too. Of course, it’s hard to know whether to be happy or sad for him on that count until we see how the new Red Dawn turns out.
