How Was the Show?

An open thread for reports from the Cinematic Titanic show in suburban Philadelphia tonight.
I was hoping to be there, but a family emergency arose and I wasn’t able to go. A pretty big disappointment for me.
If you have any nice photos, e-mail them and we’ll considering adding them.

I just got home from the show. I left midway through the third movie (Legacy of Blood) because of an hour long drive.

It was a great show. The first movie, War of the Insects (Genocide), was a good opener. It was really long, but the riffs more than made up for it.

The second movie, Samson and the 7 Miracles of the World (something like that), moved much quicker. I also thought the CT crew were even more on point with this movie.

Between the second and third movie, they did the 10 second countdown to 2K10 and people downed their champagne (or in my case, downed my Mountain Dew Code Red).

Like I said, I left during the third movie, and even though there were people in my row that left before me, it seemed like the majority stayed.

All in all, worth my 60 bucks and I encourage you all to see them when they come to your town.

    Awesome show!!
Totally worth ditching my family to see it!!

I also saw the RiffTrax shorts-travaganza a couple weeks ago and while that was a ton of fun in it’s own right, the CT show absolutley blew it away. All three of the movies were fantastically awful, and the gang riffed them masterfully.

I even got Joel and TV’s Frank to sign my “MST3K: The Essentials” dvd sleeve after the show. (Thanks again, Guys!)

    Best New Year EVER!

I would say that the show was good not great. I still had a nice time though except for the ungodly cramped seats at the Keswick. They really need to upgrade their seats.

It looked to me like a sold out crowd

I think they should also take the Rifftrax route and do away with the warm up. Just get right to the movie…No offense Dave Gruber.

I would never go to a 3 riffer event again, That is way too long, but I did stay to the end. Even the Titans appeared to be running out of steam.

Thanks CT for a fun and memorable start to 2010

@TVEye: Please, don’t. They’re really very nice, gracious, and incredibly talented people. Please don’t embarrass them or yourself.

My brother and I attended, and stayed through all three movies. I considered doing so and endurance challenge, and I wasn’t about to wimp out.

The Titans were at the top of their game. That being said, I thought the second movie, “Samson, etc” was a real snooze-fest, made bearable only by the riffs. As you MST3k fans know, there are some movies that are just too hard to make it through no matter how funny the guys are.

The first movie, “War of the Insects”, was by far the best in my opinion, and I think they should strongly consider making this the next DVD release.

I am glad that I brought in the new year with this gang, but I think that this is the only circumstance where I would do three movies again. My ass was killing me by the third movie!

It was a long but rewarding night with a huge crowd (large attendance plus alcoholic beverages equalled VERY long lines to the restrooms). Plenty of up-to-date references in the riffing (Tiger Woods, Jon&Kate, Michael Jackson, David Carradine) though at one point or another during the evening all of the five went up on their lines, which didn’t occur during their two-night appearance in Philly in June. Six hours of ANYTHING in one sitting is probably too much, but I enjoyed it (of the three films, I think I preferred Legacy of Blood). Bonus: I shared a cab ride back to Philly with three other attendees, one of who came all the way from Boston, and we had a very entertaining time discussing all things MST3K.

    Happy 2010, everybody!

Amazing show! Yes, they could have done without Dave Gruber, and the theatre seats were awful, but the CT crew were totally on point, despite how long they were going for. It was a wonderful way to celebrate New Year!

Wow had a great time. I too felt like it was an endurance test, but one well worth taking! The gang was in great form and we had a great time. I agree the theater was cramped, but I was happy so many people made it! I hope they play out area again, soon.

    A die-hard MST3K friend and I went.

Though my prior knowledge of MST3K was based only on 1 video and this board, we both thoroughly enjoyed the show.

Agree with all who have said that the Keswick seats were real pains in the a** and also the excellent up-to-date riffing.

Friend and I concluded that War of Insects was probably the best of the 3 movies; Samson was saved only by one central character; and Legacy of Blood was purely dreadful– way too many flashbacks, same family, dreadful effects, etc..

Overall we were both very happy with the show and enjoyed it greatly. The on-the-fly riffs were great, and it was fun to see the cast be human and slip up and/or bust on each other, e.g. “Oh..wait.. you let Mary Jo get away with it..” said by? after Trace (?) was busted on for a John Phillips riff.

    Keswick theater seats are “TOR-CHA!”

Since I was going to the show I held off buying the EAST MEETS WATTS dvd. I figured I would just buy it at the show. OUCH! They charged $25 at the show ($10 more than on their website!)

Thought Samson and the 7 Wonders was the closest to a MST episode.

Best New Years Eve I ever had…thanks TITANS!

The show was great and well-worth the money. I stayed through all three movies and I definitely thought the Samson and the 7 Wonders movie was definitely the best and thought it was placed perfectly in the middle. The other movie’s were great too, but I just found myself practically in tears laughing throughout all of the second movie.

It was great that the paused to countdown the New Year with all the fans and I thought it was great to see Gruber again (I previously attended the Philly show back in the summer).

My only complaint was that the seats were very uncomfortable, but again that’s a minor complaint for me considering I got to see them riff 3 movies in a row. Definitely the best New Year’s I’ve had.

Great job, Titans and thank you for all the laughs!

HAPPY 2010 EVERYONE! I attended and it was a great show!
Heya Andrew, I was the one in the taxi who got out at the Holday Inn, hehe. Sry if I talked u guys’ ears off or anything, heh, I had had quite a few drinks by that point
I think Joel may have by the 3rd movie as well, as he REALLY flubbed a few riffs, tho much to our and the other Titan’s amusement :) . I had already seen Legacy Of Blood on DVD and was kind of prepared for the odd kind of mood it throws at you, but seeing others first time reactions at the end of the movie afterward was great. Everyone was kinda like ‘Did I ACTUALLY just see that? Was that some kind of sick hallucination?’, haha.
Tho i agree the seats in that place were NOT cool, heh. I honestly don’t know how I got in and out of my isle so many times without crushing someones feet or falling over. You had about 10 inches of moving space for ur legs and all,
It was a GREAT show tho, and everyone seemed to have a blast, Titans included.
(Ya know you just can’t open a peppy Hollywood blockbuster with a title like ‘GENOCIDE’ anymore.. lol)

It was a fantastic show. Made it to the very end without much trouble although I think I dozed for a minute or two during “Samson.” It was my first time seeing CT Live, so I was disappointed in the lack of meet and greet, esp. after driving up from Baltimore.

The seats were, as others have said, pure torture.
