I kind of get Lost Continent confused with King Dinosaur. Didn’t they both pilfer footage from One Million B.C.

Shout Factory is incredible with these releases. What a great selection.

I lost my copy of jack frost. i am surprised they didn’t put rocketship x-m first. I had a feeling they eventually would put the the rocky jones on dvd it was just a matter of time. Beast of yucca flats i had a feeling that was coming soon. I have to say shout factory had done a really greaty job with these.

Shout is amazing. These guys are really delivering on what we’re asking for. Hopefully one day soon they’ll be able to deliver on my personal “holy grails”, the Sandy Frank films. Oh, and more Season One, please. Or, at the very least, Robot Monster. ;-)

Wow. Just…wow! Jack Frost is my all-time favorite ep, I am SO stoked to finally get a HQ dvd of it. Glad they’re releasing Crash too, ’cause my vhs copy was degraded before I transferred it to dvd. I’ve NEVER seen either of the others, so this is like getting 2 new eps. Awesome SF!, you guys rule!

Sounds good to me! I’ve never seen any of these eps, but from some of the comments I’ve read it sounds like I’m in for a treat.

Alas, though … no Pumaman. Sigh.

    OMG! This set ROCKS!!

3 of my favorite episodes ever! Crash of the Moons, Beast of Yucca Flats and Jack Frost!
AWESOME! So happy we got the second Rocky Jones ep on DVD to go with Manhunt in Space, esp
since Crash is funnier. Beast and Jack Frost ive seen recently online and I found them
    to be most excellent.

Lost Continent isn’t too bad, despite the Rock Climbing (very painful!) and finally we
get a break from Season 1 episodes to boot.

    Shout Factory Rules!!

Excellent choice of episodes, Shout! Factory. You’ve really gotten the hang of things. Now if only there were scene indices … (gotta have something to complain about, I guess  )

Oh my, this is a wonderful set. I’ve only seen Lost Continent & Crash of the Moons once each on Youtube. I’ve got Beast downloaded from Youtube & have watched it a few times (the rabbit bit at the end cracks me up something fierce). And Jack Frost is one of the ones I’ve been wanting on DVD the most. So this is a totally awesome set. Now, since it looks like they’ve cracked the Wade Williams issue (Crawling Eye & Beast), let’s start hammering on MGM, Corman & the Japanese a bit more shall we.

Fantastic set! I love Lost Continent and as some of you know I’m a big Rocky Jones fan. AND Coleman Francis. AND Jack Frost. Woo Hoo!!

This is a pretty great set. And I’m hoping the inclusion of Jack Frost leads to the immanent release of The Day the Earth Froze?

Anyways these are all great episodes, and I’m glad to see S!F finally depart from the whole season one construct; considering we will probably never see the entire series on official DVD release, I can’t imagine the season one episodes are pleasing anyone but the most hard-core (with all due respect) completist nerds. Seems like kind of a waste to tease them and make the rest of us pay $40-60 for three shows. There I said it!

Lost Continent. “You ever flown one of these?”

I have that on tape (except for about a second that got taped over) and realized that it had the same footage that was used in Rocketship X-M in the begginning. “Seen it.”

…and yes. “Rock climbing, Tom Servo.”

When they get to the top: “I think I’m going color blind.”

That would of mattered if the movie was in color.

Yet another wonderful lineup from Shout Factory. Thank you, kind sirs!

And just a comment on the whole Season 1 eps discussion. While I admit they’re probably not as good as later episodes, I’d love to see them. In particular, I would love to see The Slime People or The Black Scorpions on DVD sometime soon.

But any new to DVD eps are good to me! :-)

  27. creepygirl says:

There is nothing wrong with Season 1 episodes. I will agree that now is a good time to lay off. This set is fantastic. This is the first Shout! Factory release that does not have some sort of iconic episode. All the eps are great, period.

    Buy it, won’t you?

Aw, I was hoping for The Projected Man, since my VCR just ate it. I’m also missing Revenge of the Creature for the same reason. Too bad you can’t buy just a quality VCR anymore either. Those combo units are crap.

This may be the most solid set Shout’s put together and possibly the strongest collection overall. Jack Frost is huge. Lost Continent is huge. The Beast of Yucca Flats is huge. Crash of the Moons, not quite as huge, but certainly not a clunker. All in all, a grand slam.

And I’d say adding one first season ep every 2nd or 3rd set is just fine. After all, there’s only 7 of them left anyway, and most of them look to be tough to get rights for.

  34. bartcow says:

Oh, but I should add that when I’m not whining about my tech issues, I’m thrilled with the titles on this set!

  35. Slartibartfast, maker of Fjords says:

I think it’s time to send Shout Factory a Bannergram! Although I think XVII is a stronger foursome, I welcome the four titles in the set. Still a 5 in my book though.

My main goal for future releases is to replace the worst quality DVDs I have, which include Mole People, Being from another Planet, and some that were from DAP and have lost their original quality.

Bartcow: Do what I did. Buy a VCR/DVD combo that allows you to copy one from the other. That’s the reason we have some eps that didn’t download properly from DAP. Also, DVDs never become eaten.

I noticed 2 sound glitches in the Final Sacrifice right around the 26 minute mark, both are brief less than a second of static. I figured it was my crappy dvd player guess not

    @83:

    Good point–I didn’t realize that.

I like some of Season One, but overall it isn’t as good as 2-10. I guess I was thinking that I’d rather they put out a few more stronger all-around sets instead of using that 4th slot just to try and release all the Season One episodes. Now it appears they’re doing that, and it makes me happy. Up until now that was my only complaint about the Shout!Factory releases.

  41. The Toblerone Effect says:

What’s left to say about Shout Factory’s last three releases? Many of us didn’t see Warrior of the Lost World, Night of the Blood Beast, The Crawling Eye or The Final Sacrifice coming, and yet here they are on dvd! Out of these four on Volume XVIII, I’d say Lost Continent was the one that suprised me most. Jack Frost and Crash of the Moons were deemed as attainable on Travis’ list, while TBOYF always seemed possible to get in spite of what the nay-sayers said. If I’m remembering correctly, Jordan Fields said in his interview that the Lippert films were being held up due to distribution issues in Canada. Either those were solved or SF basically said “Screw Canada! Let’s just get these released!” Or something similar.

In any event, I look forward to hearing about when this will be released. My guess would be mid-to-late August. And I’ll echo several comments already made about “Progress Island”, arguably the most underrated short in MST history:

    “Puerto Rico offers many things…”
    “…like flights OUT!”

  42. pablum says:

Good set. I like all the episodes listed. Finally the Coleman Francis trilogy is completed.

Now for my negative spin on the set. We’re now at volume 18 (plus individual releases) and so far season 3 still has only four episodes released to DVD. Five if you include the incomplete and out of production VHS of The Amazing Colossal Man. I’m going to write the season off at this point as being one I’ll primarily only see as fan copies. Not that its a bad thing, but it seems that we should have seen more by now if Rhino and Shout could have gotten rights to the movies in it.

I’ve got to hand to shout…they are definitely setting themselves apart from Rhino. This is a great set, though no classics in my top twenty, still great…

Lost Continent: The first ep I saw all the way through and a personal fave, though I have to admit it doesn’t hold up so well on repeated viewings.

Crash of the Moons: Not just filler this time. A really fun ep.

Yucca Flats: Yay, this makes the Coleman trilogy complete though it isn’t the best of the three. Coleman fans rejoice!

Jack Frost: A great one. Should really make a lot of fans happy.

  45. Zbu says:

The only reason Season 3 has so few releases is because most of them are Sandy Frank/Japanese releases that are stuck in copyright hell. Plus, that’s when Best Brains went FVI crazy and started airing a ton of those movies whose rights are up in the air.

Brian Ward said to not expect Gamera titles on any set..right now they are releasing the Japanese versions on DVD one by one starting with Gamera..
The other Season 3 titles – the AIP ones are also locked up with Arkoff Estates, Susan Hart and Lionsgate.
I would only expect Castle of Fu Manchu to be the only 3rd Season title available at the moment and its not that wanted by fans…The Master Ninja movies must also have some ‘legalities’ and Stranded in Space isnt too popular either…
It also seems the first 9 episodes of Season 8 must be untouchable at the moment too..
If Shout has gotten a hold of the Lippert and the Russo Finish titles, I would think we’ll see them all in future sets & quickly too..

I had that sound glitch in Final Sacrifice as well. I can live with it, but it did give me a jolt.
As far as Season One goes, Untamed Youth and Robot Holocaust are two of my favorite episodes.

I’d also like to say that I’m very happy (and I think it’s smart marketing) that Shout Factory isn’t keeping us in suspense on the next set. I remember how the building of anticipation for the 20th Anniversary set kind of backfired on them when people were expecting a collection of four “holy grail” episodes; by giving us the names now, they let us enjoy the episodes we are getting, instead of lamenting the ones we aren’t.

I just wanted to be the 100th comment..
Ok my favorite Season 1 episode is the Crawling Eye ..
Id like to see Robot Monster, Slime People & the Black Scorpion on future volumes..although Black Scorpion is owned by Warner
