I’m here at home, right now, wanting to be there. I paid for tickets for my husband and I. He has a fever. It will be the most expensive fever I’ve had to date.

And the saddest. I’m sure the Titans were as hot as my husband.

@GypsyHoney: Well gee, nice that you find him attractive, but… OHHHH. Er. So, like, what, 102 degrees or something? Quantitative, woman, quantitative!

(j/k. Hope A. feels better soon, and I wish I could have had those tickets – but 7:30 on a weekday just isn’t something Gord and I can do short of special arrangement.)

It was awesome. I liked this one more than Tiki Island and East Meets Watts, can’t wait for the DVD of this. Usually Frank seems grumpy at the meet & greets, but this time they were all happy. I was finally able to get a pic with Gruber too, he’s a great guy! Fave riff was Joel’s monologue ending with the choking scene.

You stayed at home because your husband had a fever? Why didn’t you go? What a waste! Your husbands magic is weak!

I gotta say, of the three times I’ve seen CT Live, this was by far the weakest. I found myself forcing myself to laugh. There were a few big laughs, but I’ll be honest, I don’t remember any of them. Plus, since this is the third time they’ve come to SF, you’d think that they would change the pre-show. A few of the jokes were different due to topicality, but if I have to hear the painfully unfunny “Convoluted Man” one more time, I’m going to start coming in after the movie starts(sorry Frank). I love Gruber, though. He really sells the material. I’ll see every show they do, but this one was on the weak side.

@Rachel That’s odd. I’ve never known Frank to be grumpy during a meet and greet. He’s less smiley than some other Titans but he’s always been quite friendly and happy to chat a bit with me.

*trots off to over apply her mascara and shoot a sobbing “LEAVE FRANK ALONE!!!!” video for YouTube.*

@Turner: Were you front row with the EAST MEETS WATTS shirt? If so my wife and I were right next to you both.

  8. Tim S. Turner says:

@Trigger: No, I was over on the right side of the theater about 11 rows back.
@Mind: I’ve had the same experience as Rachel. Every time I’ve seen CT, Frank is sitting there with a real crabby expression on his face. I’ve always thought that he’s just one of those folks that’s not into the meet-and-greet thing, which is okay. Not everyone is as in to it as Kevin Murphy.

Long-time lurker, first time poster. This was my second time seeing CT (both times at the Castro) and I thought it was great. The show was sold out and the crowd was very lively. The movie itself wasn’t quite as hilarious as TIKI ISLAND but I thought the riffing was sharper this time around.

I wouldn’t hesitate to see them again but, yeah, I don’t think I’d want to sit through “Convoluted Man” a third time…

I’ve seen “Convoluted Man” six times.

And other than an occasional twitch, I’m perfectly okay[apweorj aw[fpjawetope;’j.

    Really I am.

Quick question. How are receptive are the CT members about signing MST3K related stuff? I have an old picture of the MST Logo signed by 2nd MST crew (Mike, Kevin, Mary Jo, Trace, …) and would like to add Joel, Frank & Josh’s autographs when they come to Washington, DC. Do you think they’d be cool this?

Wait, which movie did they riff at this show?! I inquire because some of you seem less pleased than punch…

Also, I have a picture of a very happy grinning Frank with my girlfriend that disputes this “grumpy” thing. Then again my girlfriend is gorgeous and wonderful so anyone is grinning around her, but Frank grumpy? NAAHHHHHHHHHHHH.

Next time give him something to smile about, folks.

I don’t know, that’s just been my perception from the Seattle and other San Fran show I saw. Maybe he was just tired.

@Patrick – Yeah, they’ll sign pretty much anything. At first I felt kinda weird having J Elvis sign post season 1 stuff, but none of them have a problem with things like that.

According to the CT website, the movie was War of the Insects. It doesn’t sound like the best choice they’ve made to date based on the few reviews here so far, but I’ll reserve judgement till I’m lucky enough to see it for myself either live or on DVD. A larger sampling of opinions here would be nice and provide a more balanced view for the rest of us who couldn’t be there.

This is what I mean about Frank. Not saying he’s not a nice guy, I just haven’t seen anything other than this look all three times I’ve seen CT. And yes, the movie was “War of the Insects”. It didn’t help that the movie was really dull, with nothing happening until the last 15 minutes.

@Tim and Rachel- I guess my definition of “grumpy” is more about attitude. I’ve been through seven (soon to be more) CT autograph lines and I’ve never known any of them to be anything other than friendly and kind even though surely “life stuff” must sometimes affect their overall moods. I’ve also met Kevin and Bill and they were equally great! Maybe I should just make several “LEAVE [insert riffer here] ALONE!!” videos that I can post to match the occasion!

  19. Frank could just have one of those faces. I know I get confused for grumpy because, unless I’m actively engaged in conversation, I usually don’t look very happy…but usually am.

  20. Beautiful Mind says:

@Casey- Interesting! I get just the opposite. People often come up to me and ask “What’s so funny?” when I am just standing around minding my own business thinking completely unfunny thoughts.

My impression is Frank is shy…Mary Jo too…

War of the Insects isn’t their best but worth if for a few really great scenes (riffed brilliantly) and the season 3 feeling it has overall.

I’ve noticed that Frank appears dour after the live shows, but he always lights right up when I talk to him. I think he’s probably worn out after a performance. I know I would be! But he’s definitely one of the nicest celebrities I’ve ever met. All of CT is very welcoming. Good people!

I had a wonderful time laughing my arse off at Genicide aka War of the Insects. The print was a long torso version.
I have a friend who owns this on laserdisc in its original Japanese format.
Their riffs I thought were right on. The movie was of course pretty bad , worse than “Tiki Island” Brides of Blood (at least to me)
Meeting them and getting autographs, photos and so forth and talking with them made my day
They are all some of the nicest celebs you will ever want to meet. Wonderful time..worth the long wait in line around the block to get in. The Castro Theater itself is just a beautiful place. On Facebook Mary Jo mentions getting a hot chocolate in SF because its so cold here..and well , it is..summer in SF is basically cold and foggy
What did this have to do with the show ? Well, nothing. But I just am filled with happiness meeting people I truly admire and look up to & wanted to share my happiness

Towards the end of the film, the audience kind of got caught up with the lead character trying to save his pregnant wife’s life, and they stopped laughing. It was hard for the CT folks to get them back. One more thing, Gruber is always hilarious.

Sorry about the late thoughts, this is the first time I’ve been able to get to the computer since the show. This was my first CT live show (which also means my first time hearing Convuluted Man :P ), and I had a totally awesome time. The riffing was great, the movie was horrid and awesome at the same time, and I can’t wait for the DVD!

Frank, along with all the Titans, we nothing but nice and real pros at the Royal Oak show in Feb. Frank even went out of his way to comment on my son’s Packers jacket (considering he was wearing it in Michigan)- which really made my son’s evening, a guy who has been a fan of MST since he was 6.
