Joel visits Adam Carolla and EW mentions MST3K

Joel Hodgson visited the Adam Carolla Show last Friday to hype Cinematic Titanic and the recent live show in L.A., and he wound up sitting in for three segments. You can listen to them in streaming audio here:

Entertainment Weekly recently ranked The 100 best shows from 1983 to 2008 and MST3K came in at #63.

Beavis and Butt-head came in at #37. Go figure.

that doesn’t look like much of a list based on anything besides what shows people could name off the top of their head.

Hey now, Beavis and Butt-head was wonderfully briliant.

At least MST3K came in ahead of SpongeBob SquarePants.

…but not nearly as brilliant as MST3K!!!!!!EW should be ashamed of themselves.

Looks like a fairly standard list. Mostly consisting of crappy prime time shows. I’m surprised MST3K made the list actually.

In my list of top 100, MST would rank in the top ten. Right up there with MacGyver.

A lot of things make sense… until you see American Idol as a top 10. The lineup is tainted… this list is dead to me. It’s worse than traffic accidents.

As usual, a list massively biased in favour of American shows. I mean, sure, you guys have all the best shows, but it’s not as though we don’t have ANY good ones… what about Red Dwarf? Blackadder? Peep Show? The League of Gentlemen? Life On Mars? It bugs me that no one ever looks beyond The Office to find the actually good British shows of the past 25 years.

    battlestar at #59…?

    this list is somewhat wrong.

30 rock was significantly higher than both battlestar and MST3K…

    oh well.

Where’s Babylon 5, or The Red Green Show, or Jeeves and Wooster?

Cool hearing Joel chat about stuff other than MST and the usual promotion stuff.

Stupid shows for stupid people rank high, and the smart shows for smart people rank low.

Makes sense to me, since stupid people are the majority while smart people are the minority.

Good call, Sitting Duck, about The Red Green Show. One of my all time favorites.

A lot of things make sense… until you see American Idol as a top 10.

But it comes in at 18.

    Perhaps you meant “Survivor”?

that doesn’t look like much of a list based on anything besides what shows people could name off the top of their head.

And this is the perfect explanation of any list you’ll find in EW.

What about NOVA? Or NEWTON’S APPLE???

Dissapointing list, but you can never take these count downs seriously. At least MST still gets good recognition!

The Simpsons are #1? Really. I don’t even tivo that any more. MST3K should have been in the top 25. EW just does not know what a huge following it still has. What a shame it and we get treated with so little respect.

Farscape. BEST. SHOW. EVER. MST3K a close second. Those would be my first two. If “Jackass” can beat out “Kids in the Hall”, you know what kind of jackasses are making this list. EW are appropriate initials for them – as in ewwww. Here’s a discussion thread idea if no one has done it yet. Besides MST3K, of course, if you could program your own TV station – what shows would you put on?

I’m with Aaron. I am shocked ( but very pleased ) that MST3K made such a list at all.

The rest of the list ? some good, some bad, a lot I’ve never seen, but then I don’t watch much ‘current’ TV anymore. Just reruns and DVDs. It’ll be twenty years hence before we know what was really good now. Then maybe I’ll watch :)

  20. Cornjob says:

Don’t get worked up people, lists like that are a dime a dozen and incredibly moronic. They are based on absolutely nothing but someones whim, and shouldn’t be considered as anything but fodder for a laugh at how obviously wrong they are. I think that the worst atrocity on the list is the fact that Deadwood was not only in the 80’s but was beat out by freaking Friday Night Lights. You know that the people responsible for a list where that happens aren’t worth two sh!ts and should just be mocked as the buffoons that they are.

MST3K #1 of all time in all universes and dimensions. We all know this…

  22. Rotten as British Teeth says:

Yeah, I agree with Cornjob, today’s media has dumbed-down to fit with the times, and these “Top ‘place # here’ TV shows” or whatever they’re talking about is completely subjective. Basically, it’s proof of a short memory on the part of whoever is compiling them. The fact that MST made it at all is a miracle, given the fact that new episodes stopped production in ’99 and went off the air completely by ’04.

To put it simply: I wouldn’t wipe my own a$$ with these lists; I have too much respect for my a$$ to do so.
