20th Anniversary DVD Promo Reel – Updated

Shout! Factory has provided us with a copy of the MST3K 20th Anniversary DVD promo reel. It has clips from cast interviews and the reunion panel, plus the official DVD announcement, including the first look at the episode cover art and the Crow figurine.

Here is the original MP4 file: MST3K 20th Anniversary DVD promo reel
Note: the sound is a bit low at the beginning, but gets louder during the panel footage. It also may not play on all players.

And thanks to reader MLD for providing us with a spiffy WMV version. He’s improved the sound to make it more even throughout: MST3K 20th Anniversary DVD promo reel

Oh, and here’s a shot of us with some guys we met at the Shout! Factory booth.

  2. spudandtrumpy> It’s a 54 MB file. Saving the file to your hard drive should do the trick.

Was this thing encoded correctly? I’ve got audio and really pixellated, occasionally viewable visuals.

Would it be all right to upload this to YouTube or something, with proper attribution? (Of course, I fear that my asking this is almost irrelevant. Sadly, someone will inevitably do it, permission or no.) A flash-video format would be easier for most folks, I think. (Also, thanks! Good stuff.)

I would put it up on YouTube, but don’t want to get in trouble (since I don’t have permission). Already had one account killed from that sort of thing.

It plays better in iTunes than in QuickTime for me.

yeah, but those are four good episodes. All of them were said by “that one guy” who researched them all to be unlikely to come out on DVD.

:( Like others said, this video really isn’t working properly for me no matter what I try. I was looking forward to seeing it though.

I was watching a brief video that someone shot while in the audience, and that was very entertaining. They’re all looking great (I agree with Lynnette, Bridget definitely is stunning!) and it was very, very funny. Made me get some butterflies in my stomach. I really wish I had been there.

I’m excited for the boxset! The Crow figurine is pretty awesome, but I think I’d have prefered a Tom Servo one

I definitely like the illustrations for each title’s cover art with crow and servo set into the movie’s pseudo-action. I think they capture the mood perfectly of humorizing those dynamic posters for very dull movies. Those posters are like some image the director saw when filming, but never made it past their delusional egos.

The pose of the bots on Future War’s is a personal favorite, it has appeared on many of my own designs.

In response to those complaining about the particular episodes in the set, I am very appreciative to get what I can. The creators, who have the power to bring these shows back to us, also have the power to destroy them. I wish to thank them for keeping the original alive.

  23. Looks okay. The Crow figurine isn’t out of this world, exactly, but good enuff.

Some guys you ran into. The video is a little jerky, and I did have to get iTunes to get it, but it is very cool. Love the cards and I will proudly place the Crow figurine on my desk. Didn’t hear much from Joel or Bridget(who is a babe… ) but it is a great set and can’t wait to get it.

This was an uber-nerd fun weekend with Comic-Con in San Diego and Games Workshop’s Games Day in Chicago this weekend too. Sadly I didn’t make either event, but I do have tickets to the live CT show in October in MN so I’ll just have to look forward to that for my next bit of fun overload.

Thanks to Erhardt and Sampo for the reports from Comic-Con.

I can’t get this to work either, what’s the deal. Somebody just post it on Youtube, already. I don’t want to install iTunes just to see this one clip.

  27. You don’t even need to download iTunes to get Quicktime. There’s nothing too mouth-watering in the clip, as you’ll eventually see.

I’m sort of glad I didn’t go. I think if I had seen my favorite TV show’s creators and stars at a panel hosted by my favorite stand-up comedian, I would have exploded on the spot about two minutes in. So… dodged a bullet there.

Here’s hoping we get more sets frequently from Shout! and that Tom, Gypsy, and Magic Voice figure sare in the works.

If we are only getting the Crow figure in the 20th Anniversary set, does that mean we have to wait until the 40th for Tom?

Rename the extension to FLV and then watch it in whatever you normally watch FLV files in. I used the freeware VLC Media Player and it played just fine.

I LOVE the lobby cards! I wish they would sell a whole pack of 198 – one for each movie they did (I guess it would be less than 198, given the duplicate titles from KTMA)

Anyway, I look forward to seeing the full panel on the Extras DVD!

If they use the lobby cards as the dvd case art, I would gladly support Shout re-releasing Rhino eps with those kinds of covers. Those cards are friggin awesome! It would be worth the money I would waste to have cases that look like that. Joshway’s covers are great but those cards would make truly perfect covers.

  32. Chris and Brian,
It was great to finally meet you guys this weekend. You two do a hell of a job with this site and it is hugely appreciated by all of us from the show(s). Your ongoing dedication to it has superseded imitation as the sincerest form of flattery. Thanks.

I used VLC media player to view the file, and it was just fine. I love my VLC. It’s so rad.

Love those lobby cards. REALLY nice touch. And three episodes I love, and one… well, I enjoy the movie portion. The skits are weak, yeah, but “astronauts die while doing their jobs dumbly” is always fun, and the riffs are pretty solid.

I used Total Video Converter to make it into an AVI (Divx) file. I also fixed the sound in the beginning (using Windows Movie Maker) to match up almost exactly to the sound level during the second half of the video.

I would send you the video, but I wouldn’t know where to send it.

Does anyone know if Shout Factory is going to include the intro montage that they used to open the panel on the DVD? It was freakin’ awesome! For those of you that weren’t there, it was a montage of all the show openings edited together so all the versions/stars over the years were represented.

    monstroCity,

That opening montage was created by Brad Keely, and I agree that it was freakin’ awesome. We asked a few Shout! people and they didn’t know if it would be included on the DVD or not. But we did stress to Jim that if it isn’t, he should post it on mst3k.com ASAP!

Thanks. My E Mail server is slow for uploading videos (it is about 30 Megs in size) so I’m uploading the video to Rapidshare, and then I’ll place the download link in the E Mail. It should be ready in about 15 minutes.
