Another blog? Her blog at http://www.maryjopehl.com/ is awol and was never updated, and the cinematic titanic blogs hasn’t been updated since march, and by Frank. Why start another blog when the others are not being used? Maybe more exposure at opensalon?

    That was HILARIOUS!

Especially since I’ve been doing the exact same thing lately with my grandmother. Mental lawn dart!

Oh, Nick. Nick, Nick, Nick. You should really just relax.

I’m Midwestern and Catholic, and I always feel like I’m doing something bad and wrong, even when it’s something routine and legal, like folding laundry.

Great line, and a very funny piece!

Mary Jo also helps explain a phenomenon I’ve noticed for a while now, regarding those I’ve happened to come across who park in the handicapped spots.

It all started years ago, when I once saw a car pull into a handicapped spot (properly adorned with the blue handicapped card)
and noticed that the driver who popped out was practically a kid, who CLEARLY was not suffering any physical ailments of any kind…..I’m sure he had probably just borrowed mom/dad/grandma/grampa’s car, and taken ‘advantage’ of the placard hanging in the window.

Since that time, I now find myself mentally ‘keeping score’, any time I see a driver exiting his/her vehicle when parked in a handicapped spot……….and it’s AMAZING how few people I’ve seen that are visibly afflicted in a physical way, and how many I’ve noticed that seem absolutely fine (at least to me).

Not that I EVER say or do anything, because you never REALLY know what the ‘problem’ (if any) may be, but I do find myself wondering if there are a lot of people out there that have those placards, who may not really need them.

BTW, I also happened to notice the “Tip” button at that site, which I don’t think I’ve come across before.

Does anybody know if the author receives 100% of any ‘tip’ given to them, or does the website also get a cut ???

    Just curious……. ?:-)

I do try not to judge people using the handicapped parking spaces even if they appear fine. My grandfather, who had a legitimate handicapped tag (heart trouble), worried so that people would think he was just faking it that he would fake a limp. My family’s like that.

I did the same thing when my mom got her handicap placard. And I too felt the guilt then I saw this little old man hobbling to his car with an oxygen tank.

In my case the man just gave me a dirty look.

As Nebus mentions handicaps are not always visible.

To quote Joe Piscopo from “Johnny Dangerously” when told he couldn’t park in a handicapped space: “I AM handicapped. I’m psychotic.” :silly:
