 Game show legend Alex Trebek, the beloved “Jeopardy!” host who showed dignity and perseverance in dealing with a stage-4 pancreatic cancer diagnosis, died at his home Nov. 8. He was 80.
MSTies may remember he was mentioned in a host segment in episode 1202- ATLANTIC RIM. Trebek was synonymous with longtime top-rated “Jeopardy!,” the brainiest of TV quiz shows, which he hosted since its syndicated revival premiered in 1984 (Art Fleming hosted an earlier NBC version from 1964 to 1975.). Will Ferrell’s “Saturday Night Live” impersonation both underlined and burnished Trebek’s exalted cultural status.  SINAI, SOUTH DAKOTA–Actress, dancer and choreographer Smith Wordes died here of cancer Oct. 19. She was 65.
She began acting in the 1960s and in the 1970s began working as a professional dancer and then as a choreographer. She appeared on dozens of TV shows and a few movies, including “Beverly Hills Cop III” and “Star Trek: First Contact.” She is perhaps best known for her choreography work with Michael Jackson. She had a featured role in his “Smooth Criminal” music video. MSTies might recall her delightful turn (using the stage name Smith Evans) in episode 814- RIDING WITH DEATH as Buffalo Bill’s girlfriend Tina, aka Cupcake. BAHAMAS–Actor Sir Sean Connery died here Oct. 31, his family has said. Sir Sean died peacefully in his sleep, his son said, having been “unwell for some time.” The Scottish actor was best known for his portrayal of James Bond, being the first to bring the role to the big screen and appearing in seven of the spy thrillers. MSTies will recall that Joel and the bots compared to his brother Neil (who is still alive, as far as we know) in a host segment in episode 508- OPERATION DOUBLE 007. |
