RIP Igo Kantor

Igo Kantor, whose Hollywood career took him from Howard Hughes’ projection room to supervising post-production on “Easy Rider” and producing B-movies like “Kingdom of the Spiders” and “Mutant,” died Oct. 15. He was 89.

MSTies will remember that he was the supervising editor for the movie in episode 104- WOMEN OF THE PREHISTORIC PLANET, the music editor for the movie in episode 420- THE HUMAN DUPLICATORS and the technical supervisor for the movie in episode 423- BRIDE OF THE MONSTER.

Variety has the story.

Thanks to Tim for the heads up.

RIP Robert Forster

LOS ANGELES–Robert Forster, the stalwart leading man whose Oscar-nominated performance as a nefarious bail bondsman in Quentin Tarantino’s “Jackie Brown” made for one of Hollywood’s most heartwarming comeback stories, died at his home here Oct. 11. He was 78.

MSTies will recall his performance as Nick Thorne in the movie in episode 1104- AVALANCHE.

The Hollywood Reporter has the story.

Thanks to Paul for the heads up.

Weekend Discussion Thread: Someone Who Looks Like a MST Character

Alert regular Sitting Duck suggests:

Is there someone in your life who bears an uncanny resemblance to a cast member of either MST3K or one of the films they have used? Could be a relative. Could be that dickweed in the next cubicle who uses your stapler without permission. Could be the java jerk who serves you your daily cappuccino. In my case, the organist at the church I attend looks almost exactly like Mike made up as Jack Perkins.

Have at it!

RIP Rip Taylor

BEVERLY HILLS, CALIF–Rip Taylor, (aka Charles Elmer Taylor Jr.) the exuberant comedian whose zany shtick and over-the-top delivery made him a television and nightclub mainstay for more than six decades, has died. He was 84.

MSTies will recall that Joel and the bots devoted a whole host segment to him in episode 418- ATTACK OF THE THE EYE CREATURES.

The Hollywood Reporter has a nice remembrance.

Thanks to Tim for the heads up.

Weekend Discussion Thread: Did They Find It?

Alert and frequent submitter Duke of Puddles turns up again:

If memory serves, the premise of the CC era and the MST3k Movie was that Dr, F was looking for the worst movie ever to use for his world domination scheme. Question: did he find it before the whole end of season 7? and if so, in your opinion which one was it? For me: yes with Castle of Fu Manchu.

This isn’t really about the worst movie the Mads sent, but it’s more about: what movie, shown by the Mads or not, is THE movie that will allow them to take over the world.

Me? I’m going with “The Way We Were.”

You?

Don’t Let Duke of Puddles have ALL the fun! Keep sending those WDT suggestions.

Also, FYI- I tentatively plan to begin posting official season 12 episode guide pages once a week beginning Oct. 24. These plans may change (like, if I get a job), but that’s the plan right now.
