RIP Sid Haig

LOS ANGELES–Sid Haig, a character actor whose credits extend from 1970s blaxploitation films to cult horror classics such as “House of 1000 Corpses,” died here Sept. 21 of a lung infection. He was 80.

Haig appeared in more than 50 films, from George Lucas’ “THX 1138” to the 1971 James Bond film “Diamonds Are Forever” to Quentin Tarantino’s “Jackie Brown.” MSTies will remember him as Donar in the movie in episode 1111- WIZARDS OF THE LOST KINGDOM II.

Entertainment Weekly has a nice obit.

Thanks to Timmy for the heads up.

Weekend Discussion Thread: MST3K-Inspired Foods

Alert regular Duke of Puddles, suggests:

Late last Sunday night I was nursing a ‘Vulcan Mind Probe’ (mentioned in episode 407- KILLER SHREWS) and … ok, it was a cold ham sammich but I was wondering what kinds of food or drink ideas could be inspired by MST movies? Diabolik deviled eggs came to mind.

Me (walks out, looks at the camera and says) “Pancakes … Oh I blew it!”

What’s your pick?

Keep those WDT ideas coming!

RIP Cokie Roberts

Veteran journalist Cokie Roberts, who joined NPR in 1978 and left an indelible imprint on the growing network with her coverage of Washington politics before later going to ABC News, died Tuesday due to complications from breast cancer.

MSTies will recall that, in a host segment in episode 604- ZOMBIE NIGHTMARE, Mike and the Bots gave Roberts a scalp massage via voodoo.

NPR has a nice obit.

Weekend Discussion Thread: MSTed Villains Who Deserve an Origins Movie

Alert regular Duke of Puddles opines:

In light of the upcoming Joker origin movie, what MST baddie deserves their own movie? Who would star in it and possible storyline?

For me it’s Krankor with Joe Pesci as Phantom. Although DeVito might get the laugh better.

I’d like to hear about Xenos the wizard from “Outlaw (of Gor)” What made him so evil? We want to know!

Your pick?

Weekend Discussion Thread: Recognizing Actors After a Long Time

Alert regular “Sitting Duck” writes:

Ever have a delayed realization that you had previously seen a particular actor in a MST3K film? Perhaps taking weeks, months, years or maybe even decades?

In my case, it wasn’t that long ago that I realized that I had seen Janet Munro (Anne Pilgrim in “The Crawling Eye”) before, as Roberta in “Swiss Family Robinson.”)

I think for me it was when I realized “Robot Monster”‘s George Nader was the agent in “Human Duplicators.” Blew my entire mind.

You?
