Joel to Do a Reddit AMA Nov. 10

Joel tweeted the following yesterday:

People of Earth: please join me in an upcoming Reddit AMA for news about Turkey Day 2015 and the future of @mst3k. Nov 10 @ 4pm ET.

Let the rumor mill begin.

RiffTrax.com Offers MST3K Episodes

RiffTrax has begun something called “MST3K Mondays,” where they will offer episodes of MST3K for about $10. These versions will include a new introduction by Mike. They started it off this week with “The Pumaman” and “The Final Sacrifice.”

Well, there are lots of places you can get episodes of the show, so, want a good reason (beyond Mike’s intros) to get them at Rifftrax.com? In an mass email, they noted:

This is finally a chance for Mike, Kevin and Bill to benefit from their work on ‘Mystery Science Theater 3000,’ thanks to the help of our fans!

Weekend Discussion Thread: MSTed Movie Character Costumes

Troy suggests:

With Halloween fast approaching, it might be fun to toss out ideas for MSTed movie character costumes that you could piece together from items in your attic or local thrift store. (Don’t worry if nobody else gets your costume … you’re like the wind, baby!) For example, put on an extra small pocket T-shirt, hike your pants up to your armpits, and walk around slapping food out of people’s hands as the eponymous hero from “Daddy-O.”
Wha’dya think sirs?

Hey, Halloween is today! Get to it!

RIP Mike Dodge

We don’t have details, but we have reliable reports that writer-actor Mike Dodge has died. Mike was a staff writer for MST3K for all of season six, and appeared as “Bob the A-Bomb” in a host segment in episode 602- INVASION U.S.A.

Thanks to Tom Noel for the image.

He also was the narrator of “Edward the Less,” an animated “Lord of the Rings” parody Mike, Bill and Kevin created in the years immediately following the end of MST3K. He also provided the voice of bossman Bob Honcho in the “Film Crew” videos.

Cast members sung his praises today.
Mike Nelson:

A wonderful man and tremendous talent. He was hilarious, charming and erudite, and I was fortunate enough to work with him in stand-up comedy, in a radio troupe, later as a writer on Mystery Science Theater, and on our Film Crew DVD releases.
Nothing was better in a writing room situation than making Mike laugh.
A small sample of his outsized and far-ranging talent, he narrated a Lord of the Rings parody I worked on.

Frank Conniff:

He did some writing for MST3K and all of us who worked there loved him and thought he was one of the funniest people we knew. And on top of that, he was just about the nicest person you could ever meet. When I moved away from Minneapolis I lost touch with Mike, but he was an unforgettable person, loved and respected by everyone who knew him. He will be missed.

When we have more information, we’ll update this post.
