Posted by Sampo, on June 23rd, 2015 SANTA BARBARA, CALIF.–Two-time Oscar-winning composer James Horner, who worked on three James Cameron films, two ‘Star Trek’ movies and hits like ‘A Beautiful Mind,’ ‘Field of Dreams’ and ‘Apollo 13,’ died Monday, June 22, in a plane crash near here. He was 61.
MSTies will remember that he composed the theme music for the movie in episode 703- DEATHSTALKER AND THE WARRIORS FROM HELL.
The Hollywood Reporter has the story.
Posted by Sampo, on June 21st, 2015 This is not a Rifftrax site, per se. It’s a site devoted to all things MST3K, and to whatever the cast and crew of MST3K is doing now. So when there are RiffTrax releases that don’t feature the MST3K cast, it’s not really in our wheelhouse.
But…I have a special place in my heart for Janet Varney and Cole Stratton, because I think their “Dirty Dancing” riff is one of the funniest things in the RiffTrax library.
So, stepping out of the wheelhouse a little, Janet and Cole have a new one…

Download or stream it here.
And since we’re out here already, I guess it’s worth mentioning that Matthew Elliot (this time joined by Ian Potter) put one out a couple of weeks ago…

Posted by Sampo, on June 20th, 2015 Alert regular Timmy suggests, since it’s Father’s Day weekend:
Who is your favorite father on mst3k (and least favorite too). Mine is Joel since he was a father figure to the bots (while Mike was the crazy uncle).
Gotta go with the permissive, clueless dad in “The Violent Years.” Oh, and he stinks at his job, too.
What’s your pick?
Posted by Sampo, on June 18th, 2015 Another annotated episode has been posted: ‘ Werewolf.’
1. As always, if you catch a reference they haven’t annotated, or if they need to make a correction, post in the comments THERE, not here.
2. Remember that they only annotate the theater segments. Not host segments. If you suggest a reference in a host segment, they will ignore it.
Posted by Sampo, on June 18th, 2015 Vancouver, British Columbia–Canadian actor, comedian and writer Richard “Rick” Ducommun died at a hospital here June 12. He was 62, according to most sources, though some give younger ages (not uncommon with actors).
He is perhaps best known as Tom Hanks’ neighbor in “The ‘Burbs,” but he also appeared in movies including “Groundhog Day,” “Blank Check,” “Little Monsters,” Spaceballs,” “Die Hard,” “The Hunt for Red October,” “Gremlins 2: The New Batch,” “The Last Boy Scout,” “Encino Man,” “Last Action Hero” and “Scary Movie.”
MSTies will remember that he was mentioned in a host segment in episode 401- SPACE TRAVELERS.
Thanks to Timmy, “the Duke of Death,” for the heads up.
